We are very pleased with our kitchen and have asked DMV to provide a quote for our next project - the master bathroom.
1939 house with PVC and copper pipes which resulted in wonderful water flow in the bathrooms.
Workmen were courteous and prompt and cleaned up everyday. I am very happy to enjoy my new kitchen.
Javier and Ibrahim were wonderful in seeing the project trough.
It is very important to mention that this was our first renovation completed in our home and that I was very nervous starting one. A month prior to the renovation, I asked friends and family to tell me about their experiences with home renovation, especially their kitchen and most of them said that it was a nightmare. Because of that and because I was seven months pregnant, I was reluctant in starting any project. Since I hated my kitchen so much and I was debating whether to sell, we decided to go ahead and do a renovation. We had a total of four contractors who came and gave us a free estimate. Some contractors? bids were very low which seemed too good to be true and some were ridiculously high, but DMV was right in the middle which made us feel a lot more comfortable. DMV also gave us a very realistic timetable and showed us many examples that inspired our confidence in them.
DMV did an excellent job of explaining everything and going through the estimation process. They used a design program to show us a 3-dimensional proposal which was tailored to our thoughts and design ideas. On April 1, 2013, just about a month away from my due date, they started the project. Javier, who was our project manager, is one of the nicest, honest, and most understanding people that I have encountered. Javier is all about making his customers happy and comfortable with project decisions. All issues we had, truly concerned Javier and he went above and beyond our expectations to handle everything to our satisfaction. Javier has an excellent eye for details and had his workers fix things that we didn?t even notice until they were pointed out. Javier assigned a two-man team to our project and they came every day at 8:30 AM unless we were told otherwise. We became very comfortable knowing that the same team came daily and had no issues leaving them in the house alone. The main workers who handled our project were always punctual, clean, friendly, and polite. There were some instances where there were differences in the scope of work that we discussed with Javier that the workers were not aware of. We just called Javier and he handled any misunderstanding and the work proceeded to our satisfaction. The jobs, electrical and hard wood flooring, that were subbed out were mostly handled well. There were some issues of work needing to be redone, but Javier handled the arrangements and was always responsive to ours calls. The work was promised and completed on a very strict timeline. Javier and his team were able to have the project completed before my delivery as promised! We never felt that any corners were cut or the work was anything less than excellent. We are extremely satisfied with the final results and quality of work done by DMV Kitchen and Bath. We give DMV Kitchen and Bath our highest recommendation. We plan on using them for our next major project and we have already recommended them to our neighbors. In summary, to all people contemplating a renovation, do not be afraid of the horror stories you commonly hear. Yes, the renovation process is not an easy one; however, finding a contractor who actually listens to what the homeowner wants and puts you at ease despite the stress of the renovation is possible.
The project included demo of approximately 250 sq/ft of old bathroom and a joining bedroom. New walls constructed, corner Jacuzzi tub, glass shower, sink, granite, tile , extra closet spaces ect...
Additionally, I have two small boys that like to get into things. The crew was always alert and carefully to help ensure my two little guys didn't get into something or hurt. Bottom line I wouldn't change a thing and was completely satisfied with the execution of this project. This is a class act organization and the end product is Great!
The quality of work is fantastic. They moved a toilet flange that was imbedded in the concrete foundation, built a solid half-wall for the shower, laid beautiful tile, and were great with the finish carpentry. It's been a couple of months since they completed their work, and we couldn't be happier.
We met Ibrahim, the salesman for the initial meeting at the condo. Our meeting went great. He was right on time, extremely pleasant and very helpful. He answered all our questions and gave us new ideas. We really liked Ibrahim from the very start. He was so personable and we felt really comfortable with him. Ibrahim followed up the meeting by sending us his 1st draft of the design in an email. After several email exchanges with him we decided to finalize our contract with DMV. But I had 2 requests, 1- was for DMV to start work immediately and 2- was for Javier to be assigned as our project manager. I had read all the reviews on DMV where people had made so many positive comments about Javier as PM . This was going to be a big job so we wanted the best!
The work started immediately and we met Javier on the first day at the job site. He immediately gave us his personal phone number and asked us to contact him at any hour of the day or night if we had any questions or concerns. I can't begin to tell you how helpful this proved to be later as we exchanged text with Javier day and night with our questions or changes as necessary. Javier could not have been more responsive through out the whole project. After the first week on the job, and once the plaster wall was removed, we ran into 2 gas pipes that went from floor to ceiling and provided gas to the condos above ours. To have the open floor plan we wanted, these gas lines had to be removed/rerouted. Javier met with us to discuss our options and told us that we needed to not only obtain our neighbors permission to cut through their floor and walls but also we required a building permit for that. After our neighbors met with Javier, he convinced them that he would do the work with minimal interruptions for them. They really liked Javier and trusted him so they gave us their permission. At the same time Javier submitted a plan to the city to get the work permit. Although this caused some delay in our project but while we were waiting for the permit, Javier kept the crew going. New plumbing , water line, electrical wiring were installed. The ceining in these old places is made out of cement so all the wirings were outside the walls. We decided on a trey ceiling.. They built a beautiful dropped down ceiling where all our lights were to be installed. We finally got the permit and Javier had the pipes removed. The neighbors were extremely pleased with Javier and the work he had done. They put new the tile floor down and started installing the new cabinets
At this point, I really wanted Javier to help do the remodeling work in the rest of the condo outside the kitchen. The biggest job left was dealing with all the electrical wires that were outside the walls everywhere. Javier told me the only option is breaking up the plaster walls and placing the wires inside the walls. This was a huge task. Plaster walls are so difficult to work with. He took on the job and worked on getting the wires off of all the existing baseboards, opened the walls, and placed them inside. He replaced all the baseboards and fixed all the walls.
In addition, Javier and his crew also closed up a wall in the bathroom and installed a new double vanity. They also built a small closet in the bedroom.
This project could have been a nightmare if it wasn't for Javier. He is the contractor you have always been looking for. He provides your project with his personal attention, and is so focused on providing the best customer service. Javier is extremely responsive to your concerns. He is willing to change things until you are happy with the outcome. He is professiona, very reliable and very likeable. He only has one objective in mind and that is your complete satisfaction. I could not have been more pleased of the entire outcome. Our condo has now been completely renovated due to the great work of Javier and his crew. I highly recommend them for any remodeling job (big or small).
My husband and I were ready to begin the project over the summer beginning in August 2013. Oscar remembered us and honored the previous contract with minor adjustments. The kitchen project was completed in 4 weeks and went very smooth. The quality and craftsmanship was superb. If I had any concerns, DMV responded immediately without delay. I now have a beautiful kitchen with new cabinets, granite countertops, backsplash, appliances and tile floor. Amazing tile work ! The employees were neat and took extra care with the rest of the house while working in the kitchen.
One other note, we have a very old house and while the construction in the kitchen was underway, the upstairs bathroom starting leaking down into the new kitchen. DMV responded without delay.
My husband and I were very pleased and have started a bathroom renovation with DMV for October 2013.
Thanks so much DMV,
K.S.
All the workers did a great job, and they were respectful of my home. They covered my dining room, living room, stairways, carpets, and furniture with plastic sheets to limit the amount of dust in the home for the duration of the project. Every day they cleaned thoroughly.
DMV did a great job. I liked their workmanship from my friend?s house, and that is what made me to select DMV Kitchen & Bath. I am thinking of remodeling my Master Bathroom later this year, and I will certainly call DMV without any hesitation. I am so pleased with the quality of work that I have already given DMV's contact information to three of my friends who are planning on remodeling their homes.
(1) Powder Room: This project involved a detailed consultation on reconfiguring all parts of the powder room and installation of new floor tiles, changing from vinyl flooring, a new cabinet with glass windows in doors, a new lighting fixture, a newly modern-designed TOTO toilet with new hardware with coordinated design such as a towel ring and holder, hanging toilet paper holder a new granite counter top and a new mirror. Throughout the execution of the project, it was extremely important that the customer, I, was available for all the time because unanticipated problems always popped up in both demolition and installation phases. One example: we discovered a subfloor board completely rotten and probably ready to collapse when a vinyl flooring was removed. Our project manager (the same gentleman in our previous kitchen task), Javier Nogales, corrected the problem by having a new subflooring installed. As previously mentioned, I was there to observe the problem area, consult on a solution, and verify the solution was carried out satisfactorily in person, not on the phone. In addition, we had an adjacent front closet renovated with an expansion, change from a folding door to French doors, a new lighting fixture, and tile floor extension. Javier recommended that the powder room sets a good tone for the entire house if it is more highly upgraded than the other project, i.e., the upstairs bathroom.
(2) Upstairs Bathroom: This project involved expansion at the expense of my bedroom space, installation of new and more expensive and taller pantry type cabinets, the same new toilet and hardware combination done for the powder room, a ceramic tile floor, a large feet medicine cabinet and a deeper soaking bathtub. We encountered a serious problem of a squeaking subfloor board for which screwing the subfloor boarding to a beam did not remedy the squeaking because the beam which ran from an end to another end through a length of my townhouse. Javier supervised several different attempts which took two extra days. Again, I was available for consultation and approvals for solutions. The project team attempted anchoring using several 2x4 beams which did not work by itself. In addition, an opening was made through a closet in another bedroom adjacent to the other side of the bathtub to install additional 2x4 beams and injected foam to push down the main beam. With our fingers crossed next day, we stepped on the problem area to find out the squeaks eliminated. Again, I was on the spot observing all the efforts in person. I appreciate the tenacity with which the remedy was carried out.
DMV Kitchen also deployed two crews to work on both projects concurrently, rather than consecutively, to cut the length of time needed. I would highly recommend DMV Kitchen to other prospective clients.
We learned about DMV through a local home magazine and read reviews on Angie's List to figure out which company we wanted to use. We compared DMV's quotes to four other companies (including kitchen cabinet refacing places) and found DMV's price to be the best. In fact, it would have cost more to reface compared to getting new cabinets.
Ibrahim, the project coordinator, was able to come to our house within a few days after we requested a quote. He sent us a 3D model and detailed quote for the proposed project. We visited DMV's Maryland showroom to compare their choices to other companies. We decided to go with DMV in the end because of their responsiveness, fair price, and good reviews. (Cabinet Discounters never bothered to send us a quote despite us reaching out to them multiple times and also providing a rough sketch of our kitchen.) When we were deciding on the type of cabinet and countertop, Ibrahim sent us pictures of recently completed projects and also was able to arrange for us to visit a project in process to see a similar cabinet/countertop combination. We were able to talk to the homeowners about their impressions of DMV and they had good things to say as well.
After we selected the cabinets, Ibrahim returned to our house to take final measurements, discuss details of drawers/doors, and other aspects of the remodel. We visited a granite warehouse near DMV's showroom in Falls Church to select the slab that we wanted. DMV also works with other stone suppliers (for both countertops and tiles) so you have a wide variety of choices.
When the installation was near complete, the manager, Javier, came by to inspect the work, asked if we had any concerns, and told the installers to make adjustments. The onsite project manager/contractor also was very thorough and corrected any issues we were able to see. At the end of each day, the workers cleaned up and made every effort to prevent dust from spreading. In addition, after the contractors left we found a few small issues that needed to be fixed and Ibrahim made sure they were taken care of right away. We appreciated this responsiveness and heard stories from our neighbors that their contractors would never do this.
We were pleased enough with the finish product that we requested estimates for some of our bathrooms. Our neighbors were also impressed with the work and are interested in working with DMV.
One of the important ways to assess a company is how do they respond when problems come up. And in construction problems come up. Most of our dealings were with Oscar, and when we ran into certain problems with the installation, the communications broke down. I called the office, explained the problem and told them to "step it up." I am glad to say they responded terrifically. Oscar apologized, the communications improved and the problems were all addressed. If you run into any problems, call on Javier (who is part owner), who also apologized and helped with many of the design issues. There were some minor design changes during the project (due to the hidden pipes). DMV was OUTSTANDING in dealing with these changes. They stuck with the contractual price and never hinted at adding charges. The quality of the work and details of the job were fabulous.
We would absolutely use them again!!
This is the second time Javier and his team have done a remodel of ours (master BR previously) though prior to the establishment of DMV. It's obvious that his hard work is paying off as his client base has grown and they've established two showroom offices (one in MD and VA). Depending on the job, Oscar serves more at the front-end of the business (initial estimate and design) but Javier will still provide inputs and guidance on both as needed. Negotiation on cost was straightforward and they also purchased our appliances so that we would get an additional discount. DMV has some nice offerings as it relates to cabinets, tiles, fixtures and hardware as well. Our primary interface was with Oscar and he served as the day to day contact but as things progressed, both Oscar and Javier would communicate with us. On our side it was a challenge primarily due to my work-related travels. My father-in-law and my spouse had to assume the bulk of the oversight while I chimed in via Skype video as much as possible. Five people communicating on any specific job in any industry is challenging, perhaps more so when it's something as personal as a remodel. That said, both Javier and Oscar were patient throughout though in some instances we had small communication breakdowns. The one issue I had was a lack of a frequent site manager who could communicate with our family from a supervisory perspective (rather than via phone/email). Since Javier is spread across multiple sites he was only able to visit a few times over the course of the job (which was nearly 5 weeks start to finish). In some circumstances our requests to Javier and Oscar were not always relayed to the team working the site.
Works Performed (A)
The finished product is really something special. It turned out even better than we imagined. Our home was transformed into a much more open concept. There are always small items that need to be tended to on a remodel of this size and scope and the DMV team is and has been responsive when contacted for follow-up. I'm sure we'll use DMV again in the future.
They would make any change we requested with out calling "the office".....Never once did our job get delayed because someone wanted approval from "their boss " for a change we wanted to make to our job. How refreshing is that?
The fact is, that most days, we had to ask them to leave....because, they would have worked until midnight to finish a particular job.
All of the changes that were made were made by us as the job progressed. They never the less were willing to work through the night to get it done.
I have been in this trade for 25 years and have never experienced such customer service.
