We were very annoyed by disorganization, messiness and a lack of communication. Each add-on was very encouraged by them but there were no systems in place to communicate (or just help us understand) the added time or cost each add-on would take. We were constantly surprised by huge costs and BIGGER extensions of time. Also, days would go by where no body came to the job site to work because the company signed more work than they could handle, so frustrating when we were living in the middle of a construction site that we just wanted to extract ourselves asap. The entire job from contract signing to completion was over 6 months; it was ALWAYS messy despite a clause in the contract that stated that at the end of each work day, the job site would be swept. It was ALWAYS filthy. They would also always forget things, either tools and nails on the floor (with a toddler in the house!) or to write something down we reminded them about.
Description of Work: We had Bear Construction build a two-story addition to the back of our house that extends the living into the kitchen area on the first floor, and extends the master bedroom (about 90 sq. ft. of new space). They also added space to our master bathroom and managed the rebuild of that. Also, they built a pull down staircase to our attic and put basic flooring in the attic, moved our basement door and built a new staircase, put up new siding on the entire back portion of the house, graded the backyard to control flooding, extended the deck, and a few other minor jobs. The original job was only the addition, new staircase and basement door, and grading of the yard. All add-ons came up very near the beginning of the job and were encouraged by the contractor with a big smile and "Of course we can do that, no problem." Little did we know, there were going to be problems.
