On time. On budget. In and out without a fuss. Great prep. Great clean up. Very careful moving furniture out of and back into the room. Great sales team. The work team was punctual and professional. Not a single thing wrong. This is the second time we have used Atlas and they would be our #1 choice if we ever needed refinishing or hardwood installation in the future.

Overall look is good. Installation has only a couple of flaws such as end to end gaps in a few places, and a couple of board overlap flaws that otherwise would have made the quality an A.

It went pretty well. I was not happy with the finish but they came right back and put a semigloss finish back on it with no hassle. I was much happier after they did that, I was very glad that I did not have to hassle with them.

Lesson Learned: Don't ever pay in full until your are certain the job was completed properly and to your satisfaction!
After meeting with 5 different companies, I chose Atlas because they use a more environmentally friendly floor finish. Each company prefers to use certain products, and my decision came down to this, although I also felt the salesperson was very knowledgeable. Ultimately, the quality of the company comes down to the person actually doing the work.
I was generally satisfied when the job was completed, except for the kitchen floor. It seemed blotchy, and in certain places the stain looked much darker than the all-over color, even on the same board. Additionally, when they brought back in the furniture, one of the felt pads on the sofa leg had gotten damp from the rainy weather we had during the refinishing. It left water marks on the floor.
One of the office staff (not the salesperson) called me the following week to see if I was satisfied with the job (she was also wanting me to pay the rest of the bill, which I had not yet done). I told her about the water marks, and paid the bill. She relayed my concerns to our salesperson who called me within 24 hours to set up a time to come out and look at the marks.
The blotchy kitchen floor was still bothering me and I couldn't stop looking at it. On the day the salesperson came back out, I was looking at the kitchen floor from a certain angle and clearly saw 2 FOOTPRINTS in the stain! I brought this to the salesperson's attention when he came out to meet with me. He seemed very disturbed by it, and asked if we had walked on the floor before the finishing coats were put on. My reply was and quot;absolutely not.and quot; He had his supervisor also come to the house to look at the floor and discuss what to do. The supervisor said this happens if moisture is introduced to the floor during the staining process and the only way to remove it would be to refinish the floor again. They also addressed the water marks and said that would be an easy fix, requiring a light sanding and a new coat of finish.
I was not in favor of refinishing the floor, so I suggested another option. I had been thinking about painting a and quot;rugand quot; on the kitchen floor since I began seriously thinking about refinishing the floor. I suggested to the supervisor that I would give it some thought and let him know how we would resolve this footprint issue. I decided to go ahead and cover the footprints with paint in a rug-like pattern.
The salesperson agreed that Atlas would screen the kitchen area, I would paint the design, and they would apply a new coat of finish. We discussed possible dates on when this would be completed. But, we were in disagreement about how many coats would be applied. I wanted 3 coats of poly, as the rest of the floors had, and he was only willing to put down 2. I was insistent on 3 coats and he said he would have to speak to his supervisor about the 3 coats.
Prior to the date we discussed for the repairs to take place, I called the salesperson to confirm if they were coming. I got no reply. I have yet to hear back from anyone at Atlas and it has been more than 2 weeks since my last contact with the salesperson. I guess they would have been more willing to help me solve the problem if I had not paid in full. I do plan to call them back and request a partial refund, because at this point I have no confidence in them to provide me with the finished product I require.
Update, March 25, 2013:
I finally got a refund for the area of the kitchen floor that was blotchy and had footprints. 60 square feet @ $2.75 per square foot came to $165, which only covered the cost of the supplies I needed to complete the job myself by covering up the area in question with a painted design.

Atlas sent over Billy Skowron to provide an estimate. Billy tells it like it is - very straight forward.
We had recently refinished the floors (with another company) on our main level so I already knew what to expect.
Pricing was very reasonable.
The work crew was very considerate and always left a clean area at the end of the day. I was able to trust them and leave them in the house alone all day everyday.
The quality of the work I was very very happy with - better than the other company I dealt with previously.
Billy knew how to direct his guys, but sometimes he was not around so not everything was done perfectly.
Out of all the work they did, there was just a little area that needed to be addressed.

tWe initially noticed that two small areas of flooring appeared sunken under the wall to wall rug in the living room and den. We knew it had to be repaired and decided not to replace the wall to wall rugs but to install hard word floors. We called Atlas Flooring based on recommendations by the neighbors and Angie's list. Billie came to give an estimate which he qualified stating that we wouldn't know the final cost until the rug was removed and the damaged observed. Once we cleaned out the rooms and the closet we found that there was mold and we had to bring someone in to get rid of the mold. Atlas floor guys then came in and we found that the flooring was of very poor quality and the whole thing needed to be replaced. It was rather a stressfull time as we kept uncovering more problems. However, the Atlas people explained each issue and gave us options of what we could do at oeach step of the procedures and were very responsive to our calls. We ended up replacing the whole subfloor. They did a fantastic job and the floors are beautiful. The installers arrived on time, were polite and friendly and finished the job on time as well (although it took a little longer because of the extra work). We were extremely happy dealing with these professional people and I would highly recommend them,

They were great, I worked with them through a general contractor. They showed up on time and got everything done is a very timely manner. After sanding everything down they noticed some damage to the floors in one room, completely cosmetic but they contacted me right away and sent a picture before they continued with the work. Great people!

Worked with their Frederick discount store. The first thing about this store is the attention and help they give. They were always available to answer questions, provide samples, but never tried to pressure me into purchasing. I've been looking for flooring for years and never found the right company or floor. Atlas was by far the best presale experience I had, which is one of the reasons I felt comfortable buying from them.
They have a very nice selection of all wood, and have a great knowledge and can advise you well. The estimate was done quickly and on time. Very professional and friendly.
With two kids, cats, and working at home, I was very worried of the time and impact to complete the work which included the entire main level of my home. The install team showed up exactly when scheduled, and even worked late to get the job done in one day instead of the projected two days! They moved the furniture and cleaned up my house and yard very well. All of the installers were very polite, considerate and I would welcome them back in my home any day.
I've had the floors installed for about a month, and I love them. They look great and you can tell they were installed by true professionals. You can't beet Atlas for the quality, craftsmanship and price.

Jimmy Hylton, the estimator and project manager, was very responsive throughout. The quote was not the lowest I received but I went with them because of the referral from the "green" building center that sold me the bamboo flooring and the fact that they had previous experience with bamboo installation. The crew that did the work was very efficient and professional. I was comfortable leaving the house while they completed the job and having them lock up when they were done. They did a great job with the installation and clean up. I've had no problems with the floors since then, except a few pieces of shoemolding that came loose (just needed to be nailed back in).

Chose Atlas because of recommendations from friends, and price. Other well-known flooring company was about 20% higher. The other company did say the floor would have to be ordered in advance b/c it was hard to get. With six weeks notice, Atlas did not order the floor in time, and with a move-in time deadline, they crafted the wood themselves. The individual creating the bevals, never came to my house to see the existing floor, or what the beval looked like. During the installation (pulling random wood out of their truck), I asked why the bevals looked so large and uneven, and was told they were fine and would disappear with sanding. No supervisor ever came to look at my concerns. Finally when I pressed the issue, the owner came out and agreed there was an issue, but it would disappear with sanding. The floor was stained and poly'd, and when I could finally walk on it and get a good look, the huge gaps between boards look terrible. There are some tiny bevals, then huge gaps that are not even straight. There are areas where the bevals are so large, the stain is not even covering. They also installed a couple boards that were sheared/split. The owner did come out to review, said it wasn't their best job, and offered to rip up boards with issues (on a finished stained, poly'd floor), which would have been more than half the floor since all the bevals connect to other boards, or to offer a future credit (clearly would not accept this), or to work with me on an acceptable refund. The amount he ultimately offered and paid was approx 10% and would never compensate for having the floor redone. I knew there was an issue when the Whirlpool repair AND infestation service people asked me what was wrong with my floors when walking through the house...

Very good job - long story short I had a vert tight timeframe to get this work done and was recommended to Jimmy at Atlas Floors. Called him and asked if he could meet my timeframe, which he could. Then agreed upon a price and they started the next day. Their crew was professional and seemed to care about their work and the floors look great. Jimmy called a few days after to ensure we were satisfied and give us a few tips on caring for the floors and making sure they look good for the years to come.

We wouldn't recommend them. They had asked if we wanted a third coat of polyurethane on the floors and we called to tell them that we didn't. We were on vacation when they did the floors and they put it down. They were not very nice about it because they couldn't charge us for it. A few weeks later there was a spot on the floor that was already worn down and I called them back about that and they were not willing to do anything about it. It seemed like they were still mad about it. The price was average.

They were completely punctual for estimation and service. They were flexible about coming back to replace the furniture. Relatively little dust in rest of house (we paid extra for the "dust free box" treatment).

THIS IS AN EXTREMELY COMPETENT, RESPONSIVE, AND DEDICATED COMPANY. IT IS OWNED BY TWO BROTHERS WHO RUN THE BUSINESS VERY EFFICIENTLY. THEY ARE VERY CONCERNED WITH DOING THE JOB WELL AND SATISFYING THEIR CUSTOMERS. OUR JOB REQUIRED SOME DIFFICULT ITEM REMOVAL. A LARGE STONE SCULPTURE - I WAS VERY NERVOUS ABOUT HAVING THIS DONE. TOM SUPERVISED AND PARTICIPATED IN ITS REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT. I WAS AMAZED AT THEIR COMPETENCY WITH SUCH A CHALLENGING TASK. THE FLOOR REQUIRED AN EXTRA FINISHING COAT FOR A SMOOTH FINISH. IT WAS DONE WITHOUT HESITATION AND ADDITIONAL EXPENSE. ALSO, THERE WAS NEVER AN ATTEMPT TO RUSH THE JOB. ADEQUATE TIME WAS GIVEN BETWEEN STAINING AND FINISHING. THIS REQUIRED SEVERAL DAYS. THE WORKERS ARE ALL VERY DEDICATED AND CONCERNED ABOUT A QUALITY JOB. EVERYONE IS EXTREMELY NICE AND PLEASANT TO WORK WITH. THE OWNERS ARE ALWAYS INVOLVED WITH THE COMPANY OPERATION - "HANDS ON" I WAS VERY IMPRESSED.

They did a difficult job, but did not supervise their crew as I would have liked. The crew left some areas with paint that could have been removed. Spoke with one of the brothers who own the company who assured me they would fix it before applying finish. They did not. They also promised three coats, but only did two. Did take the third coat off the price. Left thresholds undone. Did come back promptly to take care of that, but it was too late (we had moved in) to put third coat on floors as promised. They were nice enough to work with, but unless you are on top of them during their work, they do not live up to our expectations.

They were great. Very efficient and got the work done quickly. They sanded a portion of the floor as soon as they arrived so they could put samples of stain down so that I could choose the stain from a large patch on the floor rather than a 2x2inch square. After the floors were finished and we'd moved in, they came back to touch up a couple of scratches made by the movers.

THE WORK WAS SUPERB! IT WAS DIFFICULT TO FIND THE SAME SMALL PLANK WOOD THAT I ALREADY HAD. BUT THEY FOUND IT! THE NEW FLOOR HAD TO BE TOOTHED INTO THE OLD FLOOR TO MAKE IT LOOK LIKE ONE ROOM. EVERYTHING WAS THEN SANDED AND RESTAINED. IT LOOKS GORGEOUS!
