Permits never pulled! Fingers crossed I guess...?
Crews routinely trashed the place.
Electrical work makes no sense to my EE husband. (Be warned, the electrician is Exin's brother.)
Last check was cut with many promises made, a week went by with only 1 day of work -- a sloppy paint job (windows painted shut! paint and scratches on brand new unused fixtures! paint on uninvolved hardwood floors!)
Our new appliances are 6 weeks old and still not hooked up. Our sink stunk so much (who was dumping organic matter in the sink?!) that my husband finally had to hook-up the disposal himself.
Our basement is locked shut because they broke the key off in the lock, and didn't bother telling us.
We finally noticed most work was increasingly being scheduled for evenings and weekends, which meant not only was our kitchen unavailable, we were inconvenienced during off hours.
After another week of complaints, no response other another promise of weekend work, AND NO ACTUAL WORK, we had to say don't come back until you speak to us about all these problems. No reply.
Unfortunately, our suggestion of legal action has also resulted in no response. We weren't AL members when we hired him, our bad! Now we see he has such terrible reviews.
And oh, by the way, for what it's worth his dog, who accompanies him to the worksite, is not house-broken...
Stay away from this company. They do not keep their word and are very difficult to contact. You will be frustrated beyond reason. Go elsewhere. There are plenty of other decent companies.
Issues with Fan: - The sound output in my bathrooms is very loud (though the fan motor in the attic is nearly silent). My foremost request was for a near-silent end result which the vendor acknowledged and promised. - A signficant amount of condensation drips out of the intake grill in the main bathroom when the shower is in use.- The draw from the intake grill in the master bathroom (furthest from the fan motor) is insufficient. The bathroom fills up with steam even when the fan is on. - The fan's ductwork was not fully insultated. - Dampers were not installed - when the fan in one bathroom is turned on, it runs (loudly) in the other bathroom. - The fan was not vented to the outdoors per the contract, but, rather, directly into the attic.- Unused wires were left lying about and not put into a J-Box; J-Boxes were not secured to joist.- Vendor ignored my request for information on electrical permit/inspection.
Issues with Paint:- No efforts were made to contain dust when the bathrooms were prepped for painting (vendor did clean up upon request).- Vendor painted the wrong color in the wrong bathroom.- Vendor repainted, but 2nd paint job failed to cover the wrong paint color in various spots and began to bubble, crack, & peel within 24 hours. - Vendor got paint on door and wall tiles. - Vendor did not paint underneath light fixtures. - New light fixture was not installed level. - Vendor removed dimmer switch from main bathroom and did not replace with dimmer. Other switch plate in master bathroom was not installed flush to wall.
Other Issues:- Vendor replaced blinds in both bathrooms, but did not cut blinds to a standard length. They go half-way down to the floor. - Vendor cut thresh holds for gaps in flooring, but thresh holds did not match existing flooring and were not sized appropriately to fit the gaps (even if they were to be re-cut)
Attempts to Resolve:- Met with vendor on April 11th to discuss issues; requested to be released from contract and have deposit refunded (offered to return fan & parts). When vendor would not agree to this, I entertained allowing him to take corrective action - but, when he was unable to specifically tell me what corrective actions he would take and continued to ignore my specific questions about the model, warranty, etc., I was unwilling to agree to allow him to undertake corrective action. - I terminated contract on April 28th (the project was supposed to be completed by March 11th) and requested a refund of my $900 deposit. (Project total was to be $2,700) - I received no response from vendor. - Presently, I'm seeking assessments and estimates for corrective action from new vendors. Three vendors have independently assessed/identified/confirmed these issues. I also forwarded pictures of the installation to Fantech and received from them their suggestion for corrective action.
The bulk of the work was performed in two days, so that the house was not left exposed. Remaining trim work and cleanup was more sporadic, they needed to be nudged a couple of times, but responded immediately.
Quality of the work seems very good.
I would give them an A, but they would not honor the Angie's List coupon. Our contact said he was unaware of it; I had to show him the web page. The lack of a coherent policy here is a minus.
He did not ask for any down payment or any payment until the job was complete.
