I make custom furniture from sustainable and reclaimed logs provided by a local tree service, none of the slabs I use come from trees that have been logged.
We had recently redone the kitchen in our 1910 Federal style home and we wanted to finish off the space by replacing the old pub style table that we had been using with something that looked a little more natural in the space. We contacted Scott, a local furniture builder in the Frederick, MD area, to inquire about purchasing one of his natural edge pieces that we had seen at a local craft fair last fall. He kindly invited us to his home-based shop to look at his inventory. While we saw some amazingly beautiful pieces, we didn't see anything on display that would fit the space (our kitchen is rather small). He then suggested that we look at some of the pieces of lumber that he had in stock on his property to see if we might like to have something made to order. Honestly, we've never done anything like that before thinking that something like that would be out of our price range, but we were very intrigued by the idea. We learned that Scott uses locally sourced sustainable and reclaimed lumber. He showed us some pieces that had been reclaimed from a tree that came down on a property only a few blocks away from our home. From that tree we found a slab that we fell in love with and were able to make some measurements right then and there. He also gave us a preview of the rough outline that the table top would look like. From there the process was smooth and quick. Scott kept us appraised during the entire process. From sending us pictures after the initial cut and shaping had been done, to getting our feedback on dimensions. He also provided us with a large piece of the same slab to take home so we could try out different stains. This was a great idea and very helpful. We tried out about six before we found something that we thought would blend well in our home, with the 100 year old original floors and exposed brick walls. To complicate things for Scott we had requested that the table be finished to a height of 36" (counter top height) as we intended to use the table top for extra counter space in addition to dining and visiting with friends and family. He was able to have custom made legs made for the table by a local metal craftsman, included in the price of the table. The icing on the cake is that Scott himself will deliver the table and set it up (if you are within his delivery area). To say that we are happy with the finished product would be an enormous understatement. This one-of-a-kind table is perfect for us and for our home. His work is exceptional. His prices are ridiculously reasonable. And furthermore he is really a super nice guy. We HIGHLY recommend S. Alan Woodbine. [*** Link removed ***] P.S. I'm going to try and attach some photos that will show the "journey" our table took from piece of reclaimed wood to it's new home in our kitchen.

The interaction was exceptional. First, Scott's design are original, and aesthetically, they somehow manage to be rustic and contemporary at the same time. I saw his work online and went to a fair where he was advertised as a vendor. I bought the table on site/sight! I love that he works with the grain and organic shape of the wood, I like that it is sourced in ways that are environmentally sound and I love that it's just a stunning piece of furniture that feels like art. I loved it so much, that I asked him to work on a bench. As an "older" person, I asked him if he would consider creating a design that would offer back support. I think as an engineer, he really welcomed the "challenge" and came up with a bench that could only be described as gorgeous. He's affable and easy-going. I enjoyed working with him and highly recommend his craftsmanship and integrity.
Description of Work: I searched for approximately two years to find the right dining table, when I saw Scott's work it absolutely fit the bill.

Everything was perfect. Scott is very nice and professional. I've already recommended his work to several friends.
Description of Work: Scott delivered and assembled a beautiful hand-crafted coffee table. It is even more beautiful in person than in photos.
