I have no hesitations about going back for future flooring needs.
One of the owners, Scott, was contacted and he came out to look. This is the same guy that sold us the carpet and gave us the story of how much they pay attention to details, etc. Well after looking at the cracked trim, he said that it was unlikely that his guys did this and that it was probably cracked before. ( Ok really- if that really was the case then a responsible installer would point that out and perhaps offer to fix for additional charge. ) Next I show him the holes in the bedroom wall. He immediately states that in all the years he has been in the business he has never seen anything like it. He said he doesn't think his guys could have caused it. He takes a picture and says he'll talk with his guys. They did send one of the installers out to replace the trim above the stairs but that was all. As far as the wall, Scott is basically denying leaving two big holes in a customer's wall.
I also selected a carpet remnant to be bound for area rugs to cover part of the new wood floor in an adjoining room. Good job on the binding. They will also be binding a piece of carpet that will have some tricky angles for the kitchen, and they'll be doing the cutting and binding on site, so they get it just right. Now that's customer service!
I would definitely recommend this company, and plan to use them again. (Probably to redo the bad tile job in the bathroom, once I save enough for the job.)
Installers were pretty much on time, and seemed very competent. The install was subbed out to another company, not Potomac. It was a bit of a challenge in that no one on the crew spoke even a little English, so communication was difficult. I know a little Spanish, but it wasn't much help. It would be nice if one guy on the crew could serve as a bit of a translator. Still, they worked hard an did an excellent job.
When pulling up the old floor, they did do a lot of damage to the paint on the molding. Not their fault, per se, it was old paint, but Potomac made no offer to fix it or paint it. Wayne suggested I call my painter, and made no offer to compensate. Not a huge deal - it'll cost a couple hundred dollars, but on a $9K job it would have been good customer service to offer, or at least make arrangements. Same thing with doors that won't close because the floor is now higher. I need to get a handyman to come out and saw off the doors. So now I have two more contractors to deal with before the job is truly and quot;doneand quot;. Not a huge deal, but a nuisance. When I asked Wayne about this he gave me the name and number of his handyman and reiterated that it wasn't his fault. It would have been much better customer service to line this stuff up before the install and charge me for it.
I still might use them again if I had a flooring project, because the quality of the work was so good - it really was. I would just go in with my eyes open and not expect any over-the-top customer service.
Installation was scheduled for 3:00 on 3/29, but the three man crew was able to get to my house about 12:30. They were very professional, and very quick. They had completed everything and were gone by 2:00, and the carpet looks great.
The salesman was professional and knowledgeable. He listened to my needs and made valuable suggestions. His measurements were accurate. He was responsive to my questions and requests and followed up to make sure I was satisfied.
We had and additional 4,000 sq ft or so of other projects and the salesman was too aggressive to do additional work. Even after we told him that we would contact him after healing from major surgery, he insisted on following up for status on our projects. Subsequent projects were completed in 2010 with another company.
