Bruce Poole, along with his stone mason and gardeners, were about the nicest and most competent contractors we have had the pleasure of working with since we began building our new house 8 years ago. When it comes to ponds, they really know the business. I believe they have been doing this type of thing for around 20 years, and the expertise really shows.
The work took about 10 days. We had just barely enough clearance for a Bobcat to pass, but Brice had a tiny one that would just fit. They protected the existing path, planted with Liriope, that they needed to access the back yard. After the excavation, they brought in a huge quantity of local boulders, steppers, cobbles, etc. They lined the stream and pond bed with fabric and then the rubber pond liner, and installed a skimmer, and "Bio-falls" box at the head, with 4 beautiful, small waterfalls. One side of the pond is edged with a low wall made of ledge stone. There is a small patio on the far side of the pond made of steppers. All the plumbing and electrical service is nicely buried. Bruce installed 4 small underwater LED accent lights to appropriately illuminate the waterfalls at night. All around the sides are trimmed with all sizes of boulders and smaller stones, and all the disturbed area is trimmed with natural-looking plants. They gave us a sampling of bog-plants in pots, from their own ponds, set up in the various shallow pools.
Our stream has been running for 5 months without any problems at all. It doesn't leak! We had it installed just before winter, so we haven't added any fish yet, but we will this spring.
