"Your weren't a pain at all and in fact were quite pleasant through out the entire process. It was a real pleasure working with you and [removed member name] I think you were in the process of selling if I'm not mistaken. I really hope the renovations helped sell your house. Thank you so much for your business as well as the great review!"
"Thank you for the great review, your business, and any recommendation in the past or in the future. Business gained through referrals is usually the type that fosters future business and long lasting relationships that support the growth and longevity of any business so it is always much appreciated. Thank you!"
The estimator arrived on time and discussed the job with my wife for about 30 minutes, took the measurements and gave us a fixed price. As they could do the job later in the week we decided to go with the company. The estimator said they would call to confirm arrival time. They didn't but arrived when expected. The fitters were friendly and worked quickly to get the old top off. When it came to cutting down the breakfast bar shelf they used a rip saw working from eye rather than by measurements. They did not think to take out all the drawers before they started so some of the saw dust got into the drawers. They also cut the hole for the cooktop insitu making more dust inside the kitchen and connected family room.
Half way through the job they discovered that one piece had been cut wrong and was 4 inches short. The job stopped and they ordered a new piece which was available for the following afternoon and was the right size. It took a further three hours to fit the tops with constant inputs from us on how to deal with some fiddly bits of fitting. By 5 they had finished and told us the plumber would be coming to fit the sink and connect the cooktop. The fitters were keen to leave and did make a cursory attempt to clean up the floors etc. The plumber was excellent and had a lot of work to do to fit a hot water heater which was being moved under the sink. He was meticulous and came back on the Saturday to finish the job because we had a dinner engagement.
The good news is that the countertops look good but we had to spend a whole day cleaning all the kitchen and removing everything from the drawers washing it and putting it back. They also cut marble outside the front door and there is marble dust all over the garden. In sum, they made a mistake and fixed it but a lot of the problems could have been solved with more care and professionalism. If we had known about the cutting inside the house we could also have prepared for this.
"I understand that this is an old review and it's been some time since but I'd like to apologize on behalf of Ilkem Marble and Granite for any and all inconvenience caused by the work done. While our main focus is the trade, it is also extremely important that the overall experience is easy and enjoyable. Being that you had to clean your entire kitchen because the installers didn't take a few more precautionary steps is disappointing and regretful. Now that I am reading this, I will print it out and review with the entire work crew because they know that giving the customer a positive experience is just as important as our counters being installed properly. Thank you for your business and your feedback."
"I understand this was roughly 5 years ago but I’d like to personally apologize for your inconvenience. You’ve got quite bit to be upset about but I’d like to take this opportunity to respond to your grievances in detail. However, I’d like to start by clarifying that these are not EXCUSES. These are simply explanations for my behavior in an attempt to provide some weight to my apology. Again, none of the following is meant to excuse any inconvenience caused on my part, for all of which I apologize and regret. I am sorry for not bringing samples. Normally the estimator will drive a company vehicle that always has samples in it but because I was coming to your home after 5:00, I drove my personal vehicle. Also, we often recommend customers visit our showroom and see full slabs as it is better for you and avoids any possible confusion or disappointment because of seeing a small sample rather than a full slab. Regardless, you requested samples and I failed to deliver. Also, I should have called. I volunteered to do the estimate because I wanted to accommodate your schedule. If I’m not mistaken you couldn’t do anything at your home earlier than 5:30 or 6:00? The day of the estimate, I was working on some jobs after hours and completely lost track of time and that is completely my fault. To make matters worse, I assumed that since it was your home, and that it was later in the day, you’d be home anyway. This too is unprofessional and inconsiderate. Who’s to say you didn’t have somewhere else to be later that night? Certainly not me. It was foolish to even suggest that I would come back and I’m sorry for that. I live in Silver Spring, MD which is roughly 45 minutes from the granite shop and about an hour from your house. In my mind, I’m being accommodating in working late. However, the way I went about it caused the effect to completely back fire and instead of impressing you with accommodating after hours service, I frustrated and inconvenienced you. In suggesting using a cutting board, I meant to use SOME of the material. It wasn’t really meant as a solution to waste, but rather a suggestion as to what to do with some of the waste. Regardless, if there was a miscommunication, I should have been more clear. I didn’t come back out because I didn’t want to come back home late again the next day. As far as forgetting about you, I know that back then, I was new to the job and had a lot of different things to tend to and was trying to handle more than I could. I bit off more than I could chew and in the process dropped the ball. Completely my fault, completely inexcusable. I’ve been doing this for much longer now than I was at that point. I’m much better at measuring and much more aware of my limitations. While I am glad you are happy with the final product and price, I really regret that overall experience wasn’t easier. I hope all is well. Thank you for your business and for your time. Yusuf Adem"
