APRIL AIR CONDITIONING

My opinion is that April is a good, honest, local firm, the type I like to support.

AC unit stopped working.  This company was the only one that returned my call, and I had renters who need AC.  They came out timely, but the rest of our experience was so poor that I scored responsiveness and punctuality as N/A.  It becomes a moot point that they came out right away, when the work performed was ultimately a waste of time and money.  I was told that there were leaks in the coil and that the system was out of coolant, but that they could repair the leaks and recharge the system.  The two repairman on site did not articulate the problem, solution, and pricing sufficiently, so I called the office to get the information.  This should have been enough for me to seek another vendor, but they were on-site and our tenants were hot.  Their limited warranty is for 30 days, and less than 90 days later (6/3 to 8/27) the system had lost all its coolant.  I had another company out today, who indicated that the fix that was previously done was a temporary one.  Apparently a "leak sealer" was used.  The company that came out today said they could do that again to just get us to the end of summer, and the cost would be 1/2 of what we paid in June.  But, we are not looking for a temporary fix.  I feel that we paid April Air Conditioning for a fix, when they knew all along it was only a temporary band-aid; I feel we were taken advantage of.

They entirely did a faulty installation of the equipment that they sold us.

I had only called them Tuesday afternoon and they were able to fit in a visit on Wednesday morning.  They arrived right on time and one of the two men immediately began to inspect the system while the other listened to my account of the earlier inspection by another firm 5 days earlier.  (This first company had written that the overall condition of most major components of the system was "good" but they said a disconnect was "hot" and recommended a full system replacement "immediately" to prevent a "meltdown".)  The April Air men did a complete evaluation of both units and discovered that a component on my heat pump had been turned too tight, a "Schrader" valve had been pretty much stripped and so much of my freon had leaked out.  They said they couldn't believe the first company had merely walked away without fixing this problem.  They also noted that another protective cap was missing.  They replaced the valve (which is quite small but critical) and showed me the old one and its problem.  They added freon and checked the pressure of the system, which then was fine.  At each stage they informed me of what they were doing and how much it would cost to fix.  I felt very comfortable that they knew what they were doing--especially the guy who really did most of the hands-on inspection.  It was clear that they were trying to fix what needed an immediate repair.  They pointed out that it is an old system and said they would send a proposal for replacing it, and said I should have time before next winter to get more estimates.  At least now I feel comfortable running the system until I can do that.  Very satisfactory.  The only down side is that they do not take credit cards.  But overall I think it's a great company.  I had been referred to them by a friend who does oil heating service and repairs.

I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO MY FRIENDS. THEY DID THE WORK. THEY CAME ON SHORT SHORT NOTICE IN THE MIDDLE OF OUR HOTTEST SPELL, WHICH WAS A MIRACLE IN ITSELF.
