They then measured for the new coping, which turned out to be incorrect, and they needed several more pieces which they had to special order. This pushed the completion date back several weeks (I was assured by the owner that it would be done before May) When the coping did finally arrive and was installed, we noticed a large gap between the coping and cement pad; in some places up to three inches. When we inquired about this large gap the workers stated that they were going to caulk between it and that it would look fine. I later learned that they could have prevented this large gap by ordering the correct tile and probably paying a little more attention to detail when they measured. As it turned out, the caulk job was not on the original estimate/contract and the company contacted us and stated that they would need to draw up another contract for the caulking. We were not happy about this, especially since the large gaps due to their measuring mistake, would require several more tubes of caulking than a normal job (it required 36 tubes of caulking which was installed by another company).
Throughout the entire process we consistently had to call their office to ask whether or not the workers were going to show up and work on our pool. It seemed that if we did not remind them, they would forget about us and it would be weeks before anything would get done. The entire process, from start to finish took approximately 7 weeks, and weather was not a factor. Weather was not a factor.
A day after filling the pool, we noticed the new paint bubbling around the steps. after the third day, the paint was completely pealing off the sides of the pool and large chips we beginning to appear in the polaris. After about a week it was apparent the that paint was going to completely peel off over a matter of time. We then decided to hold off on the final payment until they came out to look at the pool to let us know what was going wrong and to ask them questions about how to fix it. When we told them this they were offended and refused to come and look at it until we paid. For several days they would not return out calls and it took a trip into their office to negotiate with them to come out and diagnose what the problem was.
We did finally pay the final amount, but only when they agreed to come and repaint the pool, which they ultimately admitted was a result of their poor workmanship. We both signed a new agreement on 26 June 2012. It states that they will come and paint the pool either in July or August, depending on the weather. The pool has been drained since approximately 14 july 2012 in order for them to repaint. Since then they have claimed that the weather has not been good enough for them to do so. I reminded them that we have had on several rain-free weeks?.and their normal response is that we are not their only customers. Additionally, they will not work on our pool either on Thursday or Friday as those two days are reserved to fulfill their routine maintenance contracts. And, if you add Sunday to this, this essentially leaves Mon-Weds to get the work done and for the weather to be perfect on those days. The odds are certainly not in our favor especially as Fall approaches. Therefore, our pool is currently empty and we have no confidence that it will ever be repainted before next year.
"We acknowledge the frustration of a major pool renovation when there is a delay, unfortunately some things are out of our control, and there are discrepancies in Mr. Bartee's comments. We honored our commitment to the Member's home and the project was completed as stated in the contract, regretfully the Bartee's did not."
The Guatamalan servicemen were courteous and thorough during every visit.
