Air By Miller

First, some background: The 18 year old heat pump in my home started icing up two months ago. After following the online instructions for deicing the coil, it did the same thing again a week later. I called a highly rated service from Angie's list (review elsewhere and this is NOT Air By Miller). The technician came out and cleaned the coil claiming that was the immediate problem. He recommeded that the system be replaced since it was 18 years old. While reinstalling the inside evaporator coil he broke the fitting on the drip tray and told me that it would cost me $500 to fix what he broke. I let it go since I figured I could try fixing it using some epoxy. We left for vacation soon after assuming everything was working. The week before I finally decided to go ahead and replace the system, I got a double whammy; the system froze up again and I got an electric bill that was 3 times higher than normal. I immediately called a number of companies to come to the house and estimate what replacing the system would cost. Dave of Air by Miller came out on Monday to do an estimate. I told him that I really wanted the work done quickly since the original system was freezing up and continuing to run. After discussing all of my options he e-mailed me with two written estimates for my consideration. His estimates were way below the prices quoted me by the three other dealers and he assured me it could be done by the end of the week. After accepting the estimate on Tuesday afternoon, Dave told me that he would pick up the parts on Wednesday and be at the house Thursday to install the new system. Thursday morning Dave and his assistant Mark showed up on schedule with the new system. He told me that depending on the complexity, it could take a day to a day and a half to install. I came home from work to answer any questions they might have and as a result watched parts of the installation. I have some background in plumbing and electrical work and these guys were really good! They removed the old components; installed the new outdoor and indoor units; fabricated custom sheet metal to tie the new system in with the existing duct work; reprogrammed the existing BG&E "rewards" thermostat. The complexity and amount of work they did was astounding; not to mention the quality--it was great! By about 4:30 pm on Thursday, Dave informed me they were ready to crank the system up and adjust the freon level. WOW! They turned on the system and carefully adjusted the freon to optimal levels. We are cool again and will have no problems with freezing up. They removed all the trash and old components and cleaned up beautifully. They even left me an extra air-filter for the new system. All of their work was done professionally and thoroughly. The quality of the electrical work, freon line connections, sheet metal, etc. etc. was top shelf. Really a great outfit to work with. If you need any work on your HVAC I recommend them most highly!!
