MURPHY'S GLASS BLOCK

The project encompassed pressure washing and staining a rear enclosed deck of 20 feet by 35 feet. We contacted Ed to provide us with an estimate and project timeline. Ed started the project in the fall of 2017 but was hampered by poor weather. He doggedly finished the project in the summer of 2018 ahead of schedule and vastly under budget. He also went over and above in the scope of his work. I would definitely recommend Ed and his crew for any deck or glass block projects. He is a consummate professional!

I'm putting in a small glass block window in a shower wall where the other side is a stairwell.  The purpose is to bring natural light coming into the stairwell into the shower as well.  I had little success with the local Home Depot or Lowe's, so i did a Google search for anything about glass block in my area.  One hit that came up in Fallston (just minutes from my home) was a 3rd party listing sight that just gathers business info from public resources like phone books as a way to be found by search engines to get more traffic for their advertising (these are infamous for being inaccurate).  It listed Murphy's Glass Block, gave the address, phone, and said it was a retail business.   I called the number and Ed Murphy, the owner, answered.  When I asked where his store was he said he didn't have one...that he just worked out of his garage at home, and had no idea why someplace had him listed as a retail operation.  In spite of the circumstances, he asked me what I was looking for anyway.  I told him and he said that he could probably help me with what I wanted.  he said he was on a job site some miles away but thought he would be back by a certain time and would meet me at his house.   I arrived at his house and waited a few minutes before his wife arrived.  I explained why I was there and she called him.  He apologized, said he was held up in traffic (he was coming a long distance from when I called earlier) and gave his wife instructions on where to find what I was looking for and how much to charge me.  When what he had wasn't what i thought, when I described that I was looking for a glass block that was opaque, he had no problem with it and said he had some and told his wife where to find those.  They were perfect and we completed the transaction. I thought I would find the rest of what i needed at Home Depot or Lowe's.  When they didn't have an important item, I called Ed Murphy again to see if he knew where I might be able to find it.  He had a couple of ideas, but again offered to help if he could and we arranged to meet.  When I arrived, he had exactly what I needed, almost wouldn't let me pay for it, and spent time with me answering all my questions about installing the block.  He even showed me some examples and gave me some tips in order to avoid mistakes. Ed's professionalism and willingness to help, as well as treating me with patience and kindness, impressed me.  He really is not a retail operation, but if I am looking for glass block work or installation/repairs, I have every confidence that my experience will be the same.  I look forward to recommending him to others.  (I also encouraged him to join Angie's List.)
