Chung was fabulous. He picked up our vanity from the store, arrived at our house exactly on time, and worked efficiently to complete the projects. He was very responsive to our questions, and took time to explain exactly was he was doing. His work was superb. He installed a large piece of dry wall in our ceiling filling a hole that was created by a water leak, patched and primed the area, and applied two coats of paint. The result was exactly what we wanted. Chung also did a great job installing a new vanity without a hitch, and hauled away the old one. We highly recommend him.
Description of Work: Installed vanity and repaired dry wall.

Chung was recommended by Aaron from Argent after completing our duct-work. Chung promptly returned our call and we set up an appointment for an estimate. We hired him after his very thorough inspection and explanation of the work done (repairing holes in walls in every room of the house and the ceiling of the basement). We were extremely pleased to see that HE completed all the work with an assistant---the job was not contracted out or completed by people we had not met. Chung worked quickly, put in very long hours and left the work-space (which was our entire house) very clean. I was very impressed with how professional Chung is and how nice the completed work looks. I know Chung also works on kitchens and we will be contacting him once we can afford that renovation.
Description of Work: Chung repaired holes in the drywall throughout our house after we had all the ductwork in our home replaced.

Mr. Ku was recommended to me by my a/c installer, since I needed to build bulkheads to enclose coolant lines, and repair holes in the wall that were made in order to install the a/c system. I also asked if he could install an old-fashioned swing kitchen door that was original to my building. I called Mr. Ku and he responded promptly and made an appointment to inspect the work that needed to be done. He arrived promptly and provided a reasonable estimate. He provided an estimate that excluded painting, which I could do myself. This helped reduce costs. After I accepted his proposal, he and his worker returned a few days later to perform the work. It was completed in a day and a half and went very smoothly. The work was performed well. I was pleased that the swing door was installed in a clever manner that was different from what I had expected, but which was superior. Mr. Ku and his employee were courteous and pleasant, and the work site was reasonably vacuumed and swept. I certainly would call on Mr. Ku again.

Chung Ku was recommended to us by Argent Heating and Cooling to patch up some repairs they did on our ductwork. Chung was responsive, easy to work with, and reasonably priced. His work in the living room, which was right by the dining room table at eye level, was flawless and you would never know there had been a hole there.

I cannot recommend Chung Ku highly enough. In all cases he was able to come out and do these repairs within two weeks or less (sometimes just a few days) of our contacting him. The work is of highest quality -- the drywall and plaster repairs are undetectable, and he took great care to match the crown molding/chair rails/baseboards to existing pieces. Chung Ku communicates well about his prices and his schedule, and his rates are incredibly reasonable. We could not be happier with the work he has done for us.
Description of Work: Chung Ku did plastering, drywall and miscellaneous repair work in our old capitol hill rowhouse several times over the past few years. I do not have the exact details of dates or cost at present, but in summary: - In 2007 he built drywall to hide the ductwork for our newly-installed central A/C. This work also included installing crown molding and baseboards to match the existing woodwork; putting an openable panel into one area to retain access to our circuit board; and other detailed work. He also installed a cover for the access hole in our attic, which the A/C people had not done. - In 2008 he did some minor drywall repairs for us. - In 2009 he repaired several areas in our house that had suffered water damage from a radiator leak: a large panel of drywall in a basement ceiling, and plaster under several windows that had almost completely deteriorated. Again he removed and replaced crown molding and baseboards where necessary.

Chung Ku is my favorite handyperson/drywall expert ever. In every job he's done for us, he has been punctual, quick, professional, and inexpensive. He cleans up completely, communicates well about what is possible and what isn't, and does top-notch work. I can't recommend him highly enough.
Description of Work: Chung Ku has done drywalling for us several times, in summer 2007, spring 2009, and fall/winter 2009. He has done everything from small patches in the ceilings and walls to fairly major jobs encasing large air conditioning ducts in drywall next to an existing wall.

Painting and installation of the doors were good. But unfortunately, the paint job was not as good as we had expected. We have used Mr. Ku in the past to patch up plaster walls for an A/C install as well as smaller "handyman" jobs, and have considered his work excellent and professional. However, when it came to the painting project, it appeared rushed and not as professional as we had hoped considering the price we paid. It also felt like he was juggling other projects along with ours, so perhaps not as much attention was put into our project. There was some paint that spilled onto one of the bedroom floors (and those hardwoods were just professionally refinished the month prior), spots that were missed, and it didn't appear that there was much prep work done prior to the application of primer/paint. We ended up repainting one part in the hallway that was splotchy ourselves. Before we paid, we brought our concerns to Mr. Ku's attention, and he did "touch up" a few places, but overall we were not happy with the painting job. However, we did pay the price that was originally quoted, which was quite expensive for the product we received. We wouldn't have minded the price, if the job was better. We were truly disappointed, and do not plan on hiring him again.
Description of Work: Primed and painted 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, and hallway/stairwell including baseboards and window molding. Also painted and installed 2 doors.

bdrm ceiling: fine. bathrm: fine job on patching walls, installing the baseboard and the threshhold The paint job was rough in places. The door had to be repainted. The area behind the door had to be sanded and repainted . A few small places were missed in painting. The tile floor is not even which he attributed to uneven floor. Visitors have noticed this w/o my mentioning it. We have 2 other tiled floors (13") in the house. They appear even. Obviously I agreed to these prices which I feel were high. His original estimate which included other painting was extremely high. Hence a scaled back the project to the 2 above areas and asked for an itemized price. The job would have been worth $1535.00 had it been done well.
Description of Work: -primed (oil) & painted 1 bdrm ceiling $290. -approx 9.5' X 4' bath: -patched limited walls space where needed, -primed walls w 2 coats primer -painted ceiling, walls, 1 door, 1 sm window frame. -installed & painted wood baseboard - tiled floor ( 12") -caulked where needed -installed a wood threshold. Owner supplied floor tile & enamel paint & threshold. Kept original tub/shower tile...less wallspace $1245.

The gentleman was honest and forthright with us regarding the limitations of his capabilities--otherwise, he was pleasant and professional during the interaction. He responded promptly to a phone call and showed up on time to the estimate appointment. If what we were looking for was the kind of thing he could do, we would have hired him.

I was very pleased to read the other reviews for this company. However, I did not see any of the positive aspects the other reviewers wrote. I did not hire him, as the quote was OUTRAGEOUS for the work I wanted done.
Description of Work: I asked for a quote to replace a large window unit in my house. He provided an OUTRAGEOUS estimate of $5300. He said the window itself would cost $3300. I already had a quote in my hand for a Pella Architectural window, aluminum clad exterior and wood interior, custom sized to fit the existing opening, for just $1400. He also said he was estimating the labor would take 2 full days, to replace a window!!!
My husband and I were very happy with the results. This contractor was the best of any contractors we have ever had over the years (and we have had many). He provided excellent value for money and proved to be an ideal person to hire for major or minor work in home repair. He deserves an award for his excellence.
Description of Work: Last December we asked Mr. Chung Ku to completely redo shoddy work that had cost twice as much when originally done by someone else (a washer-dryer system, including all ductwork, which a prior contractor had completely mishandled, causing a ceiling to disintegrate; poor in-attic insulation; and other serious problems). He understood each of the problems immediately and was able to halt and undo the damage before it got worse, thus saving us thousands more dollars in future costs and preventing safety hazards. As part of the same agreement, he also built a new closet for us, constructed a large and beautiful set of built-in bookcases, and constructed a new entry to an attic, including pull-down, folding stairs. Finally, he did extensive interior repainting and fixed a number of minor construction problems in our home. Unlike prior contractors and handymen we have dealt with, Mr. Chung Ku was very prompt in responding to us and scheduling his assistance, and he showed up on time every day. He did exactly what he said he would do, with no hidden costs (making him different from all other contractors we have encountered). He is intelligent, experienced, energetic, and scrupulously honest. I intend to contact him for another job in the very near future and will always give his name to friends who want and expect professional excellence.

In order to accommodate separate switches for my central air-conditioning replacement, it was necessary to install a larger circuit breaker panel and relocate it in my kitchen. A six-inch wide channel was cut through 1926 plaster and ceramic tile in the wall between the counter and the ceiling, and under the counter from the old circuit breaker panel, to accommodate the BX necessary to carry the wiring from the old panel through the attic to the new panel on an adjoining wall. Mr. Hu came and worked his magic with drywall and plaster, followed by paint both under and over the counter to completely hide the BX-filled gaping hole in the wall. Mr. Hu has done work for me in the past, and I highly value the fact that he arrives when he says he will, he cleans up afterwards, and he is meticulous in his work. He will not tell you he can do something if it is not in his fields of expertise. He is efficient and thorough, as well as being detail-oriented and a creative problem solver. Mr. Hu is a pleasure to work with, and I highly recommend him.
Description of Work: Mr. Hu seamlessly patched a six-inch wide channel that had been cut in my kitchen wall. For this project his expertise provided drywall, plastering, and painting.

The job went very well. Mr. Ku arrived promptly as stated. He estimated that the job would take 3 or 4 days. It took 3.5 days. He and an assistant worked full time until the job was complete. Not only did he fully drape and tape the rooms with plastic and covered the floors with heavy paper, he even extended a path of paper beyond the closed doors of the work area. He honored my request to remove or cover his shoes when coming from the outside in. Mr. Ku was very pleasant, efficient, conscientious and worked with purpose. I should state that decades ago I gave up on "professional" painters after a botched job. Over the course of 30 years, I have painted the entire interior myself about twice. ( a couple of the estimates offered to hire me ) The point I'm making is that I am a demanding customer in this area. In my view, Mr Ku is an excellent painter. He paid attention to the prep work, which is so important. The end result is smooth even surfaces, and a happy customer.
Description of Work: 1 bedroom wall had to be skimmed with 3 coats of plaster. That wall was then primed, & given 2 coats of paint. The rest of the walls in that room were also given 1 coat of latex paint. The large sun room had lifting drywall tape, along apex of cathedral ceiling & 4 skylights. There were also numerous cracks to be filled & caulking to do. Ceiling & walls had to be painted after patching, sanding & priming. Two other areas needed small patch jobs.

They always cleaned up after each project. They were always on time and they worked efficiently. Chung is also a fair and honest person. He'll tell you if this is something he can't do. He also cares about quality and wants to be sure that you're happy with the results. The only thing is he isn't cheap but he'll get the job done fast and with quality. That makes me happy after several experiences with different contractors. This one was not an ulcer production at all.
Description of Work: My basement was all gutted up from waterproofing (installing pipes and sump pumps), I had to hire a contractor to do drywalling, painting, and putting my kitchen back together. I also decided since the kitchen was already dismantled, to get it renovated by getting new base cabinets, sink, and countertop. Everything except the countertop was done by him and his crew.

Mr. Ku was a joy to deal with. He performed his projects very timely and met every expectation, even appearing when he said he would. His workmanship is impeccable and evidenced great particularity concerning every detail of his projects. We appreciate that he was meticulous in cleaning up after himself. We felt his price very fair and would not hesitate to employ him again for any manner of interior work.
Description of Work: Mr. Ku set a natural stone tile backsplash in the kitchen and a natural stone cap on top of stone tile in two bathrooms. He also custom made a word threshold to transition from hallway to bathroom and custom built a cabinet/bookshelf unit in a bedroom.
