+ -1 moreI contacted the provider to see if they could conduct a house call to appraise some of my items in my home and they sent a message stating that they could not help me with that at this time. Offered no referrals or such and the tone of the email was similar to a brush-off. I was not impressed.

Description of Work: To be fair to Caplan's they performed the service agreed and arrived on time on the appointed day but the overall experience did not go well. The service was to remove and auction the contents of a townhouse. The pack and move is a big part of this service and they were poorly equipped for the job. The box truck had no ramp and very few furniture pads. The crew was a mixed bag, some experienced but two who had no experience and no training, having no idea how to wrap and pack china. Getting them to properly protect/wrap the items became a day long battle of wills. Three trips with the truck were required because they had so few furniture pads. When I refused to allow them to stack ten framed pieces of art (including oil paintings with ornate wood frames) in a pile with no pads they became angry and belligerent. |I understood going in that auction values of household goods are low. The total sale value returned to us after commission was less than the appraised value of the dining room table and chairs, lower than even our small expectation. |

+ -1 moreElderly mother has mild dementia & got confused during appraisal process. Allowed them to take 2 valuable, treasured pieces that she didn't intend to sell. Her fault, not theirs. She signed the consignment form. When we went to Caplan's, items were already being displayed for an auction coming later that day, and had been advertised. Nevertheless, Caplan's staff allowed her to have the 2 treasured items back, even though she had signed a contract to consign them, and the items had been advertised as being auctioned off later that day. Caplan's staff did not have to do this, & they may have earned several hundred dollars on those items if they had been sold. We thank them for going above & beyond to make her happy.
Description of Work: appraised & auctioned off approx 25 boxes of old family china, silver, glassware, etc. Came twice to home to appraise items, then we delivered them to Savage Mill location.

+ -1 moreMy elderly Godmother took copies of of her property (real estate) documents hoping to have this organization arrange an auction. While their receptionists were polite, the auctioneers took her documents and stated that they would get back to her. Months went by and my Godmother heard nothing. When she asked them to return all copies, The auctioneer was always away or too busy. She only went to this company because I told her that they were recommended by Angie's List. Needless to say, we were both disappointed in the lack of this company's performance.

+ 0 moreThey are very professional. They help you in finding people to buy your antiques by putting them on auction. And they move things to my personal home and then moved things to my mothers senior living residence. Then they took the things that I did not want and they disposed of them. They where great. They started moving (with four me) at 8 AM to 7 PM.
Description of Work: This company is more than just a moving company. I call them an Estate mover.They also pack things and take them to their shop and help you sell your antiques.
