I recently had a roof on my carport replaced which turned into an event. One would think paying a higher cost would mean a higher quality job. This would be incorrect. I dealt with Peter Holden during this project. To start, unlike other contractors he climbed on the roof to get an idea of the overall picture. This allowed me to get a fixed cost (which I prefer). Other estimates never went on the roof to take a look. The workers were phenomenal. They did a great job with the roof, and the cleanup was top notch. So why am I giving a low rating? The cost quoted to me was three times higher than others quotes. After negotiating (he had to call someone else) the price was dropped, although it was still twice as high as the other quotes. As I explained, I prefer the fixed rate so there would be no surprises, so I decided to sign a contract with Peter. On a side note, my neighbor told me afterwards he had his entire roof replaced, for the same cost as my carport. As with any business, there was up selling. During the repairs, I was advised due to water damage it was recommended to add additional poles for support. I was given an outrageously high quote, and the reason was because they had to dig holes. I was also advised it would be cheaper to get the job done now, because they could easily access the structure while they were replacing the roof. I agreed since I was already getting the work done. However, at the end of the day the roof was finished and everything put back together. So this â easier to access was to remove the siding. Since little additional work needed I had second thoughts. I currently have eight metal poles holding up the structure. I was under the impression that there would be eight new poles added, and all the new poles would be wrapped together with the existing poles, however I was told that could not be done. They could only paint the existing poles white. After some research I found that you can build wood around the poles, and then wrap them. I feel this was not being offered as a cost savings to the company since I already got a quote. After the job was done, they were paid and went on their way. Someone pointed out issues with the completed job. Part of the front siding was crooked, and there was EXTREME rippling on the siding. I called, and Peter came back a few days later and saw the issue without me even pointing this out. I wonder for someone in the business for so long why there wasnâ t additional attention to detail. A few days later, the workers came back to fix the issue. I was told that this is expected since the structure settled over time, but they will try and fix it. They added some additional insulation, replaced the siding and left. I went back out to check the work and I still noticed the obvious rippling effect. I immediately called Peter back and got answer of there is nothing else that can be done, but he will come back and take a look. The workers were here for a few more hours, and during the time they removed the insulation just added plywood. Finally after the third try the job was completed to my satisfaction. One additional note, prior to being paid I did point out a few minor issues with some shingles being loose. Peter said this was normal and they would settle over time. I blindly believed this only to find out that I was given incorrect information. I asked the workers who were fixing the siding, and climbed on the roof to fix the issue. For the cost and the experience that Peter has, I would have expected to job be done properly. But I had to call twice to get the job done properly. What I have learned about Admiral Home Improvements and Peter Holden is they appear to want to take shortcuts to get the job done. I would highly recommend looking over everything before you pay them.
