I consider myself a pretty good judge of character, and I work with building contractors and subcontractors year-round. My experience with Steve was one of the best. He was true to his word, his crew was courteous and prompt, and the quality of his work is outstanding. Before setting on B&W, I interviewed three other marine construction companies. Steve too the most time, was most detailed, offered the most suggestions, and was equal to or less than all the others in price. I am pleased that I went with B&W and highly recommend giving them a call for your next project!

The barge and workers showed up on time on the day scheduled for the start of this large project. They quickly removed the outboard pilings for my 100 foot pier and moved the barge and equipment in close to the bulkhead. They removed a dockhouse that was later put back in place and updated by another contractor. Pile driving began immediately and continued for two days. Afterward, they drove in the vinyl bulkhead panels that we had selected after seeing other similar projects that Steve had completed. This bulkhead will last longer than my lifetime, for sure. Upon finishing one side of my pier, they moved to the other side and repeated the process. After finishing the bulkhead, they began replacing the pier's deck with new 2x6 boards. Steve agreed to use stainless steel deck screws, rather than nails, which will hold the boards tighter on the joists. After all pier work was completed, they brought in the new aluminum boat lift we had ordered from the company. That install was finished in a day and included fitting the lift to my boat hull. A couple of days later, Steve installed a new walk board for me to be able to wax the outer side of my hull. I have had three major marine jobs done on my dock over the past 25 years. B and W is by far the best marine contractor I have ever used. His pricing is very fair, even though he uses superior materials. For example, he replaced my 8 inch piles with 12 inch piles, and used galvanized steel rods to connect to the deadmen at every piling. He does not work his crew to death, but treats them very fairly. They know what they are doing, for sure. He is a very good marine contractor, and the best I have used.

Fantastic. I was referred to this company and before I signed the contract, we checked four previous jobs (spoke with the individuals and went to their residences). Obviously the reviews were favorable -- but more importantly was that all four parties said only fantastic things about B&W to include quality and value of the work. We searched no more and did not regret it. This was the one major project that had to happen in our house when we moved in and we were obviously concerned with who we chose. We have been more than pleased. Steve Batze, the owner, is concerned, decent, rational, fair, smart and easy to work with. BTW -- was everything perfect? No, but then for those few items, Steve readily ensures they meet the customer's standards. We now have a magnificent pier/landing (on Broad Creek in Annapolis) decked with ipe (absolutely worth the additional cost in the short AND long run), superb boat and jet ski lift (by Tidetamer), a bulkhead that we won't have to worry about for decades, and beautiful, quality workmanship. Oh -- and Steve's crew is exceptional: punctual, hard-working, polite, disciplined. Steve also recommended a permit guy who worked out very well. Timing. B&W is exceptionally busy. I started my coordination in May 2015. My deadline for completion was April 2016. It was tight, but it happened. The permit process alone takes three months. The majority of the work at the house took about two weeks. All the other odds and ends (lifts, etc.) dragged things out another week or so. If you want quality waterfront work at a reasonable price I ABSOLUTELY recommend B&W.

.I signed the contract to replace my old, falling-apart pier in August of 2013. The one permit I had to apply for as owner was done for me by an agent of D and W Marine Construction, who handled all the other permits and legalities. On Thursday, September 18, 2014, I was notified that work would begin the next day, Friday September 19,2014, and at 8:00 am the men were at work and quot;deconstructingand quot; the old pier.
It had not occurred to me to explain that our community boat ramp was locked and only available to key holders When I returned home, I found heavy wide vehicle tracks. . Without being given any information, the crew had carefully swung wide of the clear-outs for the kitchen drain which runs from the front of the house under the driveway to my holding tanks behind the house. The last time heavy equipment came through my yard, the kitchen line was smashed and I had to hsve it dug up completely, so I was very impressed.
Each day the men came promptly at eight and left at four. The machinery was not very quiet,, but the men were, going about their work efficiently. If the weather had not produced a day of wind and rain, the work would have been finished a day earlier.
My property was left completely cleaned of any debris. I am an eighty-four year-old woman with very little knowledge of details of pier construction, and I could have been told almost anything--but I wasn't . I was treated with courtesy and respect, and was kept informed of the various procedures.
I would recommend this service to anyone

The project is finished. Bulkhead and dock were built with competent professionalism, and in a reasonable amount of time. Steve answered promptly each time we contacted him, and took care of the requests. The workers came when they said they would and cleaned up behind themselves. Two small additional chores remained when the major work was done, and they came back and did them with no problem, after having been paid. We recommend Steve Batze and his company highly. The price was quite reasonable for the job that was done. We could not have been more pleased.

This was the third most expensive item in my entire life. I had to get a new bulkhead as I live on the water and everybody assumes that people who lived on the water are rich, but a lot of us inherited our houses; so we are not rich and it was expensive. I think they did a very good job building the bulkhead and the pier. I got four estimates and I think their price was fair based on the other estimates. They didn't do a great job with the landscaping. For the bulkhead, you are allowed to build the bulkhead further out into the water by about 12 inches; you need that much room to do the building in front of the old one. They need to put in more dirt when they are done, but they definitely did not put in enough dirt. It wasn't terrible but it wasn't as much as there should have been. I have a neighbor, who said that it was not mentioned in the initial contract that any dirt would be provided; so he had a big ditch of 6 feet. It was about 2 feet wide, behind this bulkhead, because the guy said that if he wanted dirt, he had to pay extra. They did not do that but they should have provided more dirt. The only other complain I have is that, they told me they would remove some stuff. My next door neighbor also had his bulkhead built at the same time, and there were some old pontoons which they said they would take away and some brush that had been yanked out when the construction was going on. They took out most of the pontoons but they forgot one and they forgot a pile of brush. They said they would come back and get them but it's a classic case of once you pay the guy; don't expect seeing the guy again no matter how nice he is or how friendly he is. Once you pay him, he is done. It's a hard lesson to learn. Anyway, I think they did an excellent job building and I am pleased with the result but he didn't live up to quite what I expected. The other thing is that, when they left there was a lot of garbage. I think the workers did that but I am sure the guy in-charge didn't do that, but it didn't please his workers very well in keeping the trash out of the water, and I didn't think that was necessary either.
