"Thank you for your feedback & your business."
The salesman/owner Joe was quick to come to our house to sell the service and even quicker to collect the check. The staining was uneven. I have a feeling that the chemicals and tools they used were of low quality. Or maybe the people who did the job were both rookies (2 males, white, 20-25 years old).
They arrived on time. They took about two hours with the pressure washer asked us to check the deck after power washing to see if it was to our satisfaction before staining it. It looked OK for a couple of new homeowners! We were not the experts! To us, the wear and tear in the wood deck was logical after washing it, but later on we found out that the angle and the distance were probably inadequate and the technique sloppy, which might have "eroded" the finish of the wood.
After we unknowingly approved the sloppy pressure washing, the two men proceeded to apply a transparent sealant to the wood, as per suggestion of JOE, saying it was cheaper than the staining because they don't have to use all the chemicals and it will look "beautiful", also "our neighbors will be jealous." After the job was done it looked decent...for a day. It was not better than our neighbor's. It was not as the picture Joe showed us on his brochure. It looked...decent, that's all. After a strong rain the day after, the deck dried off leaving yellow spots and streaks near the corners and around its edges, along with a grayish tone in the wood. The water didn't "bead" as it was supposed to from the sealant, we noticed.
I called Joe and explained the issue but he said that the final look of the wood "had to be expected since the previous owners didn't take care of the deck properly" and that "you didn't want to use the staining chemicals" I said to him that he should have said so from the beginning instead of making us pay for something that was not going to work and that if we needed an upgrade with the chemicals to make the deck look nice we would've paid NO PROBLEM, but that he had given us bad advice.I had to use a tone with him because he was being dismissive of my concerns, consequently a couple of tough "opinions" were exchanged. The best part of that conversation? He then proceeded to "put me on hold" for 15 MINUTES without even letting me refuse. I guess he was hoping I would hang up, yet I didn't, so he had to come back to me. He then apologized for putting me on hold and said he would send somebody to take a look at the deck and fix whatever was necessary next morning.
The person was punctual and sharp looking, but dismissive nonetheless, just like his boss. He used some kind of yellow paint/lacquer in the washed-out spots and did some touches here and there with what I think was sealant. The deck looked a little more even. The overall greyish tone of the wood sustained . This fix lasted for a couple of months, then green/white/yellow blotches and streaks appeared again. The wood stopped beading. We gave up. It was too frustrating. We were not going to call them again and go through the same experience.
In conclusion, Joe had told us that the finish of the deck would last for two years. That's why the price was that high, because we wouldn't have to treat the wood the following year. The salesman/owner saw through us, noticed that we were new homeowners with no clue of what was happening to our deck and which treatment it required. The price we paid was outrageous in comparison with the service that we got. Never, never, EVER, again. They got us, so please think twice before doing business with The Grime Busters Power Washing.
"Grime Busters Power Washing strives to make each and EVERY CUSTOMER 100% SATISFIED. We have been in business for over 12 years with a near perfect service record. There are 2 important corrections to make to this review. The first correction is the date of service. We performed our services on 6/24/11. Not on 11/1/11 as stated in the review. The 2nd correction is the amount charged for our services. We collected $600.00 from (deleted member name) upon completion of our work. Not $860.00 as previously stated in the review. When I met with (deleted member name) on 5/28/11 to provide them with their written estimate for having their deck restored, I provided them with 2 options. I offered to wash, strip old finish, and clear seal their deck for $600.00. I also gave them the option to wash & stain their deck with a solid color stain for $625.00. I explained to (deleted member name) that the $600.00 price was a little high for the wash, strip old finish, and clear sealer option was due to the fact that the deck's existing weathered finish needed to be "stripped" in order to apply a clear finish on the deck. I further advised them if they were to have us wash, strip, & seal the deck on our first service for $600.00, we would wash & seal the deck for them every 2 years for $400.00. The stripping was only necessary on the first service. I put this information on their written estimate. The technician who did the job has worked for our company 5 years. He has washed, stripped & sealed and/or stained over 500 decks since he has been with Grime Busters Power Washing at a very high quality level. At Grime Busters Power Washing, our technicians are required to make sure the homeowner is completely happy with our work before we apply any finish to the deck. (deleted member name) acknowledged that she was given an opportunity to give her approval before we proceeded with putting the clear finish on the deck. When (deleted member name) called about her concern of the deck on 8/15/11 (almost 2 months after we completed the work), the field supervisor stopped by the very next business day to meet with (deleted member name) and he addressed her concerns. The supervisor confirmed the deck was protected and that all areas of the deck were beading properly. The supervisor reminded (deleted member name) that she would need to have the deck maintained every 2 years if they would continue with a clear finish and that we gave them a quote already of $400.00 to maintain the clear finish on the deck. Grime Busters Power Washing does not collect payment from our customers until they are COMPLETELY SATISFIED. This has always been our policy. (deleted member name) paid us in full at the end of the project on 6/24/2011, because she was completely satisfied with our work. Now, 1 year & 11 months later she has decided she wasn’t happy and I don’t think it is fair that after 1 year & 11 months have passed, our quality of work, expertise, and reputation are being questioned."
very easy and Grime Busters gives you a few options. Workers were
unobtrusive and professional. They were able to schedule an appointment
within a couple of days of service call.
Grime Busters has also
worked on our deck previously and also to clear jammed ice in the
gutters during the double blizzards from a few years ago. Very easy to
deal with and will call on them again for future work.
Grime Busters Power Washing, you sure know how to ruin a great deck and yard just in time for summer. If you get a quote for services, ask about how much money you'll get back for overspray, drips, spills and stupidity. That would be zero. Cashed the check and off they went. Never again.
"Customer Satisfaction is very important to Grime Busters Power Washing. We did in fact get over spray on the customer's air conditioning units. We were notified on Saturday (6/25) about the overspray. The field supervisor & service technician arrived at 8:30am on Monday (6/27) to address his concerns... He was thankful and showed appreciation for us coming back so quickly to resolve the issue. All of the over spray was successfully removed from the air conditioning units. There were no other concerns brought to our attention nor were we asked to replace or fix any personal effects that were damaged as a result of our work. He did advise that his wife did not like the color of the stain and he asked us to provide him with a quote to stain the deck a different color. I believe his opinion of our company (including this review) changed when we quoted him a price to re-stain the deck a different color. I personally will not ask someone to provide me with an estimate for additional work if I felt the quality of their work was poor. Our company has been in business for over 10 years with an outstanding service record. We are an approved Service Magic Contractor. We have over 225 verified reviews through Service Magic in which we are averaging 4.75 out of 5 stars. Mistakes happen in business. Things do not always go as planned on every project. However, I believe our company responded quickly and appropriately to his concern..."
