When I called him (based on a reference) I questioned if he could handle the job. I told him it was a roof top unit. He said he could handle it and would let me know. He contacted me promptly telling me of the locked rotor and telling me he could not do the job, he didn't work on three phase units. I asked what I owned him and he said nothing for the diagnosis.
I spent six months finding a contractor to replace the unit. When they did the first thing the did was call me and tell me #4 was a working unit (they didn't check it, only told to replace it). As I learned, the bad unit was #3.
I am under the impression he never went up to look at the unit, that is why he didn't charge me. The tenant would not pay for a different contractor to diagnose the unit, saying they didn't pay for diagnosis.
I am now left with a dying unit that I may have to pay for.
Very disappointed, if he did not want to look at it, realizing it was job too big for him, I would prefer the truth. Not what I was expecting to hear.
I did hire him for work after this and he "took" care of the repair. Tenant stopped complaining. This was prior to the "(un)broken unit being replaced and found to be functioning. That is when they told me the bad unit was #3
"Farrell's informed {removed member name} on frist contact phone call that the company did not work on commerical roof top units. {removed name} said he was in a bad way! and would like for a company to show up at his tenants. Farrell's did this for him, went on the roof and called him from there to inform {removed name} the unit was 25 years old, and beyound repair-for the money. Farrell's left the job having told {removed name} there would be NO CHARGE and to call the company he has been using. {removed name} called later that year ?2012 and asked Farrells to fix a flood from the ceiling. It was a illed condensate line install by others on the ROOF Farrell's made repair. For as little as $200.00 Most Companys have a fixed cost of $275.00 just to get on ROOF. I am sorry about any misunderstanging 2 years ago."
