Windsor Restoration

After replacing a large bay window with one somewhat smaller we were left with areas of siding and decking that needed to be replaced. Other companies we contacted indicated we would have to reside the entire side of the house; however, Windsor was able to use siding from an inconspicuous area and installed it around the new window, saving me several thousand dollars. He also installed new decking under the window and extended the railing. Very pleased with the result.

The job went well from start to finish.  Even when an increase in scope was found (more rot underneath other rotting boards).  The increased scope was easily and fairly estimated by Greg.  His work is excellent and his knowledge of old houses (inside and out) is vast.  I would (and plan to) use him again.

Mr. Winsdor is a highly skilled and professional carpenter, he does quality
work.  He is very attentive to detail and  took the time to do all 3 of my home
projects the right way.  Mr. Windsor arrived at my home as scheduled, and
cleaned up the work area after the day's work.  The cost to complete all
3 projects was fair and reasonable.  Mr. Windsor genuinely loves his work,
and enjoys the results just as much as his  customer.  I highly recommend
him, and will use his services again.  

Greg Windsor is a true professional.  From the first contact he asked us what we wanted and gave us multiple options.  He asked for pictures of what we liked and then came to look at the existing set-up to determine how he could best make it come to life.  He set expectations about the amount of time it would take, and he worked around our crazy travel schedule.  He also understood that I enjoy taking part in our home projects and didn't take it personally when I wanted to do the stain and finish work - in fact, he made recommendations for the best stain to use.  We are thrilled with the result and would have Windsor out again in a heartbeat.

well done in a timely manner

It turned out that I kept working with him and he provided good work but he ultimately wasn't so great because he slow and expensive, more expensive than someone too comfortable to his skill level. So that cost and took a lot more, I know its a number one complaint with a lot of these contractors. But if I were to rate his skill in the way of $75 hour builder, I would have to say he's somehwere in the C- range. He came out three months after I purchased the deal. I did not confront him with his skills or his hours, all of that was an issue for me, but I'd been going between two other homes and working on some deadlines. I just didn't have the bandwidth to have him stop in the middle of a project or have a conversation and try to have him do a make good in the way of either returning the money or giving me more time.

This work was done okay and on time. He was professional. I did ask for some follow up work and he cut some pieces but I have never heard from him since.

Greg Windsor and partner did a beautiful, first class job, even with unsquare walls and uneven ceilings. Excellent carpenters. Very good price. Professional, punctual and cleaned up everything when finished. Will definitely keep in mind for my next project.

Great. Couldn't ask for more

I initially contacted Mr. Windsor because his company was mentioned in the Washington Post as a company that could repair old sash windows and we had numerous windows with broken sash cords. I interviewed 3 companies to repair the windows and hired Windsor because he was the lowest price and his references were good. While he was at my home to give an estimate, he noticed several other maintenance items that we had neglected, and we agreed to have him fix those, as well as some other things I requested. He ended up doing a variety of things: fixed a roof leak, replaced some rotting wood, repaired rotting porch supports and reset the gutter so it didn't backflow onto the wood anymore, patched our concrete driveway and steps, scraped and primed peeling shingles, set a light in a canister, as well as serviced the sash windows with new chains and replacing some glass panes. He did this work in several stages, and his initial time estimates for each job were always optimistic, but he was paid by the job and I wasn't in a hurry so the amount of time he took was reasonable and he always contacted me to let me know when he was coming and his progress. His prices were very reasonable and he is a pleasant man. I can't comment on his level of and ldquo;artistryand rdquo; or finish work because we didn't have him do that kind of work for us. For example, on the windows he just installed new chains and repaired a few pains of glass. We didn't have him do a full service on the window and clean it up, insulate, and paint it. He might be very capable of doing that, but, we were looking for stabilization. He was good at what he did do for us, and our house is in much better shape heading into the winter.

Greg was professional, skilled, and his prices very reasonable. Though the jobs were relatively minor--compared to, say, finishing a basement for which we may hire him in the future--we hired Greg because it was crucial to us that the jobs be accomplished correctly and securely for the sake of our home's appearance and our personal safety.

As it is an older home he had to find innovative ways to trouble-shoot and he did quite efficiently. He is not afraid of problems.

Came over to do estimate when he said he would and started the job on time and worked thoroughly. Has a great optimistic attitude and is a good problem solver. Price for his time is very fair for the experience he has.
