About us

DHC is a Montgomery County based general contractor celebrating our 44nd anniversary this year. We specialize in leak diagnosis and structural repairs as well as performing routine home repairs and maintenance. We also offer Design/Build services. DHC is a preferred installer for SIMONTON windows and patio doors. Many of our customers tell us they could not find anyone to solve their structural problems except for DHC. We warranty our work, carry full insurance and screen our employees. All of our employees are cross-trained in many skills including carpentry, drywall repairs, roofing and siding repairs, door and window installation and much more. Our helpful and courteous office staff is available from 7AM-4PM to speak with you about your home improvement and repair needs. Our goal is customer satisfaction. We always hope that once you've tried DHC you'll never hire anyone else for your home repair/home improvement needs. No job is too small.

Description of Work: I needed 3 shingles replaced on one section of a gabled roof replaced. The employee did not feel safe, and on his behalf he did make a concerted effort to get on the roof on the other side of home. I did however say over the phone that "no one needed to check 1/3 of the roof where the solar panels were" (I did not want a problem with damage to them). After an hour went by I went outside to see what progress was made and was told the roof was too slippery and the worker was not comfortable going on roof. I did not realize it would take them that long to figure out. I previously (2 months prior) had 5 workers on the roof to install 14 solar panels. They were up on roof within 1/2 hour, with a better system for their ropes (not tied to numerous trees) and had special gripper shoes to assist in the process. I thank the company for trying their best, perhaps a 3rd person was needed to assist in the process, or since they knew it was a gabled roof.... maybe looked at the house prior to coming out.

First, the Big Deal specified how steep a roof we would service without additional charges.. Anything over a 5/12 pitch required an additional charge and this roof was about a 10/12 pitch. A roofer would be required to use roof jacks and other equipment to work on this roof. This Big Deal was for maintenance requiring ladders to reach the roof. Second, unless a roof is flat or a hip-type they are all gabled. Third, this customer did mention the solar panels, but not how incredibly steep the roof is. We are able to service most homes with this offer. This was an extraordinarily steep roof. We appreciate the customer's willingness to accept our attempt to fulfill this offer to the best of our ability without putting our techs in danger and violating any safety codes.

These two guys, were great, polite, informative and neat. They were a little expensive as far as hourly rates go, but I was willing to pay, because they are so thorough. I will use then again !
Description of Work: Two workers, arrived on time, spent 2 1/2 hours looking for a leak that showed up on my kitchen ceiling. Finally found the leak between my garage roof and main house roof.

I was shocked at the bill padding and asked them not to come back the next day to finish the job. They charged $50 to bring out their truck with tools, $10 for gas, $25 for the tool to bend the aluminum, $25 for misc materials (reasonable), and $94 for the time to write up the bill. When I complained to the owner about the time charge for the bill write up he said it is part of the job. They were a half an hour late because of traffic they said. Then they took an extra 20 minutes for lunch which meant less work would be done for the day and I would have to pay all the extra charges for a second day. No way would I agree to this. I found a siding guy who finished it for less than DHC would have charged just to show up the next day before any labor was computed.
Description of Work: Replaced rotting fascia, roofing plywood, and covered rotting cantilever beams with aluminum.

5/26/10 DHC offers all customers the rates in writing in advance of doing any work. And gets approval in writing prior to start of work. Our charges could not have been a surprise to the member. This customer was charged our standard trip charge and labor plus materials. The gas charge was added temporarily when the price of gas was through the roof and our standard rate would not cover the increase. We no longer charge that $10 fee. The member was charged an equipment fee for the use of a very expensive piece of equipment we use to precisely bend aluminum wrap. All the services provided were by a fully licensed and insured company - you get what you pay for. We don't know who did the remainder of the work and cannot compare our services to theirs because we know nothing about that company. DHC has been in business for almost 40 years. You don't do that by ripping people off and abusing their sensibilities. We pride ourselves on customer satisfaction, but we do not work for free. There are, occasionally, customer whose expectations are not within the realm of reality. For those few we can do nothing right, cheaply enough or quickly enough. We cannot apologize for that. All we can do is offer competitive rates for honest work done the right way the first time that is guaranteed and backed by nearly 40 years of satisfied customers.
