I was very impressed with the good customer service I received throughout my project. Sam understood what I needed to be done and worked diligently to accommodate my needs. Mr. Carlos who performed the installation was on time and demonstrated his expertise. He took his time in going over everything they did upon the tear down and installation of my basement steps. They also cleaned up the area before leaving and I appreciate that. I will use them again for future projects. Thanks again!

Sam and the project supervisor, Robin, were attentive, heard what we were looking to do and delivered on the plan. Easy to work with. The team he has in place was very coordinated so no delays in the project. The guys worked extremely hard and were careful in what they did. The project turned out great!

We worked with Banks & Son in 2021 to renovate our first floor. From the very beginning, Sam Banks was responsive, helpful, and courteous. When I contacted him, he replied the same day, offering references from recent jobs, and was flexible as to meeting time. Throughout construction he was hands-on with his workers and met weekly with us and our architect to make sure everything was going smoothly. When we ran into problems like very old plumbing or supply chain issues Sam promptly provided options to solve the issue. His workers were tidy, competent, and professional. It was obvious that they had good communication with Sam and his foreman. We were dubious about being able to renovate during a pandemic, but Sam was very well connected with suppliers and when there was a backorder (specifically, there were supply chain problems with procuring cabinets) he was very flexible about making deliveries and finishing up around our schedules. In the end, the finished product is GORGEOUS. Sam and his crew produced a beautiful, well-crafted, renovation for a reasonable price with minimal disruption to our family. They gutted the kitchen, knocked down a wall to join it with the dining room, raised the floor in the den, created two new doorways to improve flow through the entire first floor, and put down new, hardwood flooring throughout. They also installed a gas line, moved radiators, replaced antiquated pipes, created a special alcove for a treasured neon sign, and rewired the entire kitchen and dining room. They completed this project in under seven months which would have been sooner if not for pandemic glue shortages. We honestly cannot say enough positive things about Sam and his crew. If you want a beautiful renovation with pleasant, professional, highly skilled craftsmen to work with, Banks & Son is your contractor.

My wife and I hired Banks and Son to do a kitchen remodel and take down a wall between the kitchen and dining room. Working with Sam was a pleasure, he provided some useful recommendations before we started the remodel. The project came in at estimate and on-time. One thing that stands out with the remodel was we replaced our wood floors in the kitchen and foyer and they did a repair to the living room floor. The floor guys did an excellent job matching up all the floors where we cannot tell where the new floor was started or where the repairs took place. Sams crew was incredibly professional and did a great job. We highly recommend Banks and Sons.

My wife and I had a great experience with Banks and Son Builders. We had a great rapport with Sam and his team and Sam brought lots of great ideas and solutions to some of the design challenges we had. We strongly recommend this company and plan to hire them again in the future. They weren't the cheapest bid we got but they were the best and we definitely got a lot of value for the investment.

We hired Banks & Son for an extensive rehab of our English basement rental unit. It needed a lot of work. Total bathroom renovation. Totally new kitchen area. New floor, which required extensive re-leveling. Lots of refinishing and painting, of course. And a huge job on the celling, primarily for noise abatement. That entailed special sound-insulating drywall, additional insulation, plus a new floating floor on the first floor of the upper house, where we live. Even extensive work to prevent water infiltration. We couldn't be happier with the final result. High-quality work, and visible interest on the part of management and workers in getting things right. It was a project that required extensive daily communication and coordination betwen ourselves and the contractor, and that was handled very well. It was a complex project. Things came up unexpectedly. But we were able to address all issues in a friendly and collaborative spirit. Pricing was very honest and transparent. No surprises. We got a lot of bids. Banks & Son came in toward the lower end in price and, as noted above, we were very happy with the outcome and process. We already have recommended this company to friends, and will do so in the future without reservation.

I believe a contractor should want to warranty his work, and if he does not do that, there are other options. He has not warranted his work and addressed issues brought up with the work that was done and Sam has not come out to view the issues himself. I have sent multiple photos, and am concerned about safety for my family. He changed the pricing for the 2nd part of our project and stated it would be $20K more than he initially quoted. I did not make changes to what I wanted but after I signed the contract, he raised the pricing $20K+ due to a misquote.
Response from Banks & Son-Builders
"This is unfortunate. We do our very best to bring every family's vision to life, but not everyone will be satisfied with the result. This job consisted of three parts: Building a sunroom, replacing hardwood with tile in the kitchen, and a basement remodel. Yes, the original basement quote was wrong, and no deposit was ever received for that portion. There were no price changes mid-stream as this review erroneously implies. We did not "raise the price" as they claim. This family hired unlicensed contractors to do the basement, in an effort to save money. That work was done improperly, and cracked the tile above the basement in the kitchen. We came back and replaced the broken tile. Within 24 hrs that same tile starting to crack AGAIN. NOTE: This tile was installed for 3 months, and only cracked AFTER the work was done poorly in the basement. Additionally, the same tile was used in the sunroom without issue . Only areas above the basement work have been affected. I asked this family to consider that their issue was outside of a material defect or our workmanship, they were not interested in that conversation. I offered to come back a THIRD TIME, but warned this family that the tile would likely crack AGAIN. I told them that after it cracks again, I would replace the tile with hardwood, and do that work at cost. They were not interested in this offer either. Over 40 years in business, we have NEVER had tiles crack. However, it cracked TWICE for this family, and only this family, but nowhere else in all of the DMV in 40+ years in business. They were not willing to consider that this could be something other than our fault. I tried my VERY BEST to fix the situation, but this family was not interested in finding solutions, only blame. We stand by our work 100%!!"

My wife and I contacted Banks & Son-Builders for an estimate on an elevated deck off the back of our Cape Cod home in Silver Spring. During our first meeting with Sam Banks, the scope was expanded to address several other items on our wish list. In the end, Banks & Son-Builders provided us with a beautiful 4-season sunroom beneath a new elevated deck. They also helped with several other home improvement needs that were added to the scope. Sam's team did the work on time, on budget, and with great skill, attention to detail, and professionalism. We appreciated Samâ s open communication with us through the project.

I contracted with Banks and Son Builders to complete a full remodel of my basement bedroom and full bathroom. I was also interested in adding a third bathroom for the guest bedroom on the third floor, which would have involved moving the laundry down to the basement hall closet. I contacted Banks and Son Builders, and the owner, Sam Banks, returned my call the same day. I described what we were looking to do and we made an appointment for later that week. Sam was on-time and listened closely as I walked him through the basement and described the scope of work. He steered me away from some more expensive drain solutions for the basement I had considered, which would have eaten up a good chunk of my budget. When he evaluated the laundry room move and bathroom addition, he provided us a good rationale for keeping the laundry room where it was as well as weighing the cost/benefit of adding a third bathroom. Itâ s rare to have a contractor advise you to scale down your project and to be mindful of your return on investment with the improvements. This speaks to Samâ s character and credibility. During our first meeting I learned he also builds custom homes, so he approaches a project from a comprehensive and big picture perspective. Taking Sam's advice in consideration, we ultimately decided to forgo the bathroom and laundry room move and instead retool our budget to address our second-floor railing and floors. Our second-floor living room has a two and half foot step down from the dining room that had a safety railing the previous owner had removed. We wanted to reinstall a safety rail, but in a manner that didn't make the dining room feel closed-off and reduce the open flow of the room. There was also a section of warped flooring in the dining room that we assumed was caused by a dishwasher leak from the previous owner. We wanted to address this as well. Sam prepared two quotes for the basement remodel phase and the flooring and railing phase on the second floor. We reviewed the scope of work and found the price to be competitive and inside of our budget. We accepted the quotes, signed contracts, and provided a 10% deposit. Banks and Son started the next day and had the entire basement and bathroom gutted in under 3 hours. Over the next four weeks, his site manager, Robyn, and his team were at my home daily to install drywall, flooring, tile, plumbing fixtures, a window, the railing, repairing and refinishing my second-floor hardwood floors, and installing recessed lighting. The team even worked a few Saturdays to stay on schedule. The Banks team was professional and kept the work-site tidy and clean after every day on the job. The entire time Sam was in contact with me regarding any changes or unforeseen modifications. He also went out if his way to find the right glass railing to fit our tastes in the dining room. The project had less than 2% cost overruns due to the bathroom floor needing to be re-leveled and the fireplace base needing to be re-shored with concrete. In every remodeling project I've done there is almost at least a 10% variance in the ultimate price as something unforeseen arises, so I was very impressed with Banks and Son bringing the project in on time and on budget. We were able to use the contingency I budgeted to purchase higher quality tile and flooring then originally conceived. The finished project looks amazing. The basement bedroom and bathroom were in dire need of a refresh from their 1970 design. Itâ s gone from a part of the house we tried to steer people away from to an area we are now proud to show-off. The glass railing in the dining room has really raised the visual appeal of the dining room. The refinished floors are brighter and the warped section has been completely fixed with no discernable difference between the new wood and old. I would highly recommend Banks and Sons for their remodeling work and would use them aga...
