VILLAGE LOCK & KEY

When I called VL&K they were helpful and promised to send someone out on the same day, within 2 hours of my call. The young man who came to my house was friendly, professional, on time, and was knowledgeable about what had gone wrong with the lock and was able to fix everything, including making me a set of keys, within less than an hour. I was very happy with the work that was done.

Very slow, technician appeared to not know what he was doing. Took out a lever set (was missing the lockset) keyed a new lockset for it to match my other door then realized it was the wrong set (interior rather than exterior set). Started again, finally was ready to install. Had problems getting the set in - removed and reinstalled several times before he got it. Was going to install over the jimmy plate - then I told him that wouldn't work as there would be a gap. Told him he'd need to cut the plate to fit the new handle. Although all the door hardware throughout the building was brushed nickel - he offered to install a bright brass plate that was already cut. No way. So he left to cut the plate and came back 40 minutes later with a new plate. I ask where the old was and he said his boss decided it would be just as good to install one already cut - except it didn't fit and they'd have to modify the door to make it fit. I sent him back for the old plate, he returned about 45 minutes later with the plate - cut wrong, but it fit. Rather than a half circle to fit the handle cover - they just cut a square chunk out of the plate. Unprofessional, poor workmanship, serious lack of experience, and extremely expensive. What should have taken less than an hour - took 2.5 hours. Make sure to ask about service fee's and hourly rates as the don't offer any information about pricing.

We have a cabinet, probably built in the early 1950s, with locking glass doors. We lost the keys, and needed to have the cabinet unlocked so movers could remove and pack the items inside. I called Village Lock & Key. They were able to send a technician in short order. The technician opened the lock, then was able to cut us a pair of keys so we saved the cost of replacing the lock.

When we bought our house, the front door deadbolt did not work.  But since the latch bolt functioned properly and we had a security system, we lived with the problem just fine.  We are now selling our home, and decided to get the door handle re-brassed.  When the handyman finished the install, the thumb latch was upside down and the latch bolt was a little sticky.  As time went on, it became worse, and today just after noon it became impossible to open the unlocked door from outside the house.  I called Village Lock and Key after finding their positive ratings on Angie's List and Better Business Bureau, and viewing their excellent web site.  They were not sure they could send someone until Monday, but said they would try.  Sure enough, around 3 pm a van pulled up.  A pleasant and professional technician began working on the lock.  He corrected the flipped thumb latch, which fixed the problem with the latch bolt.  He also widened the strike plate holes so the deadbolt now works!  In addition, he cleaned and oiled the lock.  The entire job took about half an hour.  I could not be happier with this company.  I highly recommend them.

The technician arrived within an hour of my call and promptly fixed a broken lock that had prevented us from using
the deck. We appreciated both the promptness and the skill.

Called to ask about how to get into a safe where combination was unknown that was in my house. They asked me a few questions and I gave them information. They were able to call safe company and get original combination for me and directed me how to open it. AND IT WORKED! They did not charge me anything and were very friendly and helpful. Customer service was impeccable. Will definitely use them when I need any type of lock repairs etc. GREAT customer service! Other companies wanted to charge me $100 to come out to see what they could do and then charge to break into safe. They were helpful and very knowledgeable on the safe I had. THANK YOU!

My neighbor used the service using my phone to call. I know the exact circumstances and charge. |They happened to have a technician coming off a job and the response was about 20 mins when the drive itself would be 10-15 mins. The tech 'picked' the lock with no fuss. There were no 'difficulties' as so often seem to occur when this type of service is provided. The charge was right about what was expected.

I broke my key for my 1987 Porsche and Village Lock and Key was able to cut me a new one. They completed the task quickly and didn't even make fun of me for only having 1 key. The key worked perfectly the first time. They saved from what could have been a major headache.

He arrived late, sprayed WD-40 into the lock and was done- literally- in 30 seconds. Charged me $88 for the service call and $25 for the fist 15 minutes. Admitted that they could have suggested that to me on the phone "but then we'd be out of business". I don't think gouging customers is a business.

They were fast in responding and showed up on time. Their pricing wasn't cheap but they let me know before hand what their pricing would be. The worker that came out was friendly and professional. I would hire them again.

The week after Thanksgiving it was brought to our attention by our cleaning service that they lost our paper work and house key. I contacted Village Lock and Key they were cheerful and courteous on the phone when I called. They gave me an estimate, set a time up and were prompt.

They did a great job. They had four very messy doors to deal with, and it was a complex job. He stuck with it and within a few hours the locks were perfectly installed. It was not an easy installation, but they did well.

They were prompt, professional and polite. Would definitely use them again for any locksmith jobs.

It went very smoothly--the technician installed locks for two doors in about an hour. He took the time to explain what he did and how to take care of (and extend the life of) the locks.

Technician showed up on time was very personable. Did the work efficiently, gave us several helpful bits of advice, and cleaned up after himself before leaving.

Bad experience. I brought in a simple mailbox key to make a duplicate, and one was made. I had to go all the way home to find out it was a complete dud. I brought the key back, and the same employee took a closer look at the duplicate they made, compared it to my original, and realized they made it completely wrong. He had used the wrong 'template' to make that duplicate, and never should have given me one in the first place. To add insult to injury, the 'template' they need is out of stock indefinitely. What a waste of my valuable time and energy for what should have been a cheap and quick service. Couldn't he have just done his job the first time, and noticed the duplicate key couldn't have been made? Instead, he tried to fudge things with the wrong template. There is no way a customer without a locksmith background or a magnifying glass could have averted this, as the two keys seemed to look the same when I left the first time. It would have saved me a lot of back and forth, second trip, and a terrible experience.
