Dog Walking
I was home looking for work for several weeks starting early April. Wanted to get the dog walker for this group established so that when work did kick in, the routine would be established. Let walker know numerous times that I might not be at home when she arrived to walk the dogs due to job interviews, errands or whatever. Bear in mind, again, that the house key had been surrendered to the walker some weeks before. Anyway, come 4/26, seems walker did not have house key when I wasn't there so the dogs did not get walked. I had submitted TWO contact numbers to service to call if problems - one home and one work. When she lost key and did not walk dogs, she called HOME number only, EVEN THOUGH I WAS NOT THERE to report the issue. At this point the walker should have retrieved the duplicate key that the service said THAT THEY WERE GOING TO MAKE AND KEEP ON FILE but that did not happen. The service owner, NOT THE WALKER, in an email later that weekend made me aware of the key issue and the no walk dogs. I called the walker and braced her about this issue. I was concerned that the house key was missing and why, when she did not hear back from me, she did not follow-up. I never heard the voice mail to my home phone. After all, it was Sunday eve and my thinking was what did she think was going to happen Monday AM? When I did talk to her, her attitude was very apathetic about the whole situation and mentioned that she DID make the phone call telling me about the situation. My feeling was that if she is that apathetic about the security of my home, how would my dogs (my children) be treated should there be an issue, problem or injury.
Short of it, walker did NOT like my upset phone call with her and summarily quit. Service was unable to provide promised back-up walker. Would have ended service in any case after this.
I would not use them. What they say they will do and what they actually do are 2 different things. They seem to have form but the substance is questionable. When it comes to my fur-kids, substance MUST be absolute.

Response from STAY AT HOME PETS
"The walker called the client Friday morning when she realized she had inadvertently left her key in his home the day before while trying to unleash his 6 high-energy dogs and complete the visit within the allotted time frame. The client did not reply to either her phone call, or my e-mail from Saturday, until 10pm Sunday evening when he called the walker's personal cell phone, screamed obscenities at her, demanded she come to his home immediately that evening for the key, then hung up on her. We terminated service with this client based on his verbally abusive phone call to the walker. After said phone call, the walker refused to return to this client's home. Based on her experience with this client, the back-up walker refused the assignment as well."

Dog Walking
They sent both dog walkers in my area to my house together to meet the dogs and get to know the routine and the house. They did not rush me - listened to everything I had to say (and it was a lot - I have a crazy behavioral routine with my dogs and I am the typical nervous dog parent) patiently and were even willing to meet with my behavioral dog trainer if I determined it was necessary to help things go smoothly. They asked a lot of questions, and took detailed notes on everything I said.
So far they have come to my house twice and I came home to a smooth household. They've been very patient with my crazy, ever-changing, and inconsistent schedule (as well as last minute demands) and my dog walker texted me to let me know how things went, offering to leave notes if I leave a pad to write on. They were very loving with my dogs when they visited, presented a packet of information and business cards, and overall made me feel comfortable and gave me peace of mind.

Animal & House Sitting
I was, and am still, looking for a pet sitting service to watch my dogs while my husband and I are out of town. I looked on Angie's List and selected this company based on the reviews. I contacted the company and arranged for them to visit, meet the dogs, and obtain a key.During the discussion about our dogs, I mentioned that one of our dogs used to be dog aggressive, but we had employed some of the techniques from Cesar Milan. The woman replied that she did not like Cesar Milan; she thought he was cruel. This did not sit well with me since obviously we do not share philosophies regarding dogs. However, there was no point in entering in to a philosophical discussion on dog training. So, we continued discussing the services requested for the dogs, including medicines, walking, and access to the yard. I informed the women that we had a dog door and that the dogs had 24/7 access to the yard and house. I could tell immediately that the anti-Cesar Milan person had an issue with this. She attempted to convince me that the dogs should be locked in the house. "What if a tree fell across the fence and they got out?" To which, my husband countered, "what if the house caught fire -- at least, the could and would go outside." A few weeks earlier he had been testing the smoke detectors, and when the alarm went off, both dogs quickly exited the house through the dog door. Reluctantly, she agreed to leave the dog door open. They left with a check for the services and a key to the house. I was not exactly happy with the meeting, but I was satisfied that the dogs would be fed, watered, and walked. I would have preferred having somone who shares my philosophy about dog care, but that was not necessary. Two days later, I got a message (both e-mail and voice mail) informing me that the company's insurance "may not cover any losses or damages to my home or my pets if you have an unlocked doggie door." The message requested that I reply waiving any liablity. First, I think if the insurance was really the issue, the proprietor would and should contact the insurance company and get a definitive answer. Second, I can sort of understand how they could argue that a person could come through the dog door and steal something. However, I cannot understand how they could refuse to guarantee the saftey of my dogs. As I explained to the petsitter, the dogs cannot jump the fence. They have been out in that yard for a year without being able to escape the yard. They do not dig. If they did, I would have remedied that problem in whatever way was necessary. And the gates are padlocked. The only way they could get out of the yard is if one of the pet sitters left the gate open, and that they should be liable for. The purpose for hiring a professional pet sitter is first to ensure that my dogs are well cared for while I am away and second to enable them to maintain their routine. Why would I pay a stranger and provide them access to my home if I did not have a guarantee that at least my dogs were safe? Consequently, I canceled the service.
Response from STAY AT HOME PETS
"As the owner, I informed the cusomer that, “our insurance may not cover any losses or damages to your home or pets if you have an unlocked doggie door. Their rationale and concern is that an open doggie door can provide entry to your home from persons not authorized to do so, creating a non-secure environment. It also provides a way for your dogs to escape should your gate be left open or your fence damaged, and we are limited in our liability should your dogs become injured or injure another pet or person. We can still definitely care for you dogs, but I do need you to reply to this e-mail stating that you understand that our insurance coverage for your visits may be limited by the access created by the doggie door.” I provided this information to her based on prior conversations I have had with our insurance agency. Our insurance covers pets we have care, custody, and control of; harm to, or damage caused by, an escaped dog due to an unsecured location (not as a result of something our sitters have done) is not in our control. I felt it important she understand that her decision to not secure her home completely could have ramifications should something occur while she was away. In an email to me, the customer noted “there is no point in me hiring a dog sitter that refuses to guarantee me that my dogs will be safe while I am away.” Our area has recently been hit by several very bad storms, causing trees to fall and fences to be damaged, leaving open access for dogs to escape. The sitter was concerned about this, so she mentioned it to the customer. In addition, the customer wrote “I have encountered other people and organizations that object to dogs being left unsupervised in the yard, which I find nonsensical. There are more harmful objects in a household, including electrical cords, the furniture, household cleaners, etc. than there are in the yard.” I am one of those people who object to, and will not provide care for, dogs that are left unattended in a yard. 20 years of experience as a professional pet sitter, 12 years as the owner of a pet sitting business, have taught me that dogs left unattended are not safe, are not secure, and can in fact get into a lot of trouble. I’ve read numerous reports of dogs being poisoned, stolen, even shot while unattended in a yard. Under those conditions there is no way any sitter can guarantee her dogs would be safe- there are too many uncontrollable factors. The customer further indicated “I am very unhappy, and I will be putting a report on Angie's list regarding this experience. Rest assured I will be as fair as I can be, but I believe that your reluctance to "insure" has more to do with a philosophical disagreement than any true belief that a person could gain access to my home because of a dog door.” I actually had no idea there was a philosophical difference until I just read her Angie’s list report, so my e-mail and phone call to her was strictly based on the information I received from the sitters about the doggie door. The customer wrote "They are happier and healthier for the exercise and mental stimulation they get by being able to go outside. Not to mention that I believe they will be healthier by being able to relieve themselves when the urge arises." We have had other clients who use doggie doors- all have followed our advice and secured the entrance while they were away. We have many ways to accommodate active dogs, including additional visits daily, longer visits, and overnight housesitting. I am sorry the customer did not see the concerns the same way we do, and that her only complaint and reason for not hiring us was that I advised her of possible insurance complications based on my prior experiences. I feel confident that we made the right decision by informing her of the possible complications, and I am sure our other Angie’s List reviews will prove beneficial for clients wishing to retain our services based on our service itself."

Animal & House Sitting, Dog Walking
We don't use them on a regular basis, but only when I know I will not be home until later (when I am on call at work). They are always so great to work with! I have two walkers that are assigned to our house. They both came out to meet the animals, ask where all the toys/food/leashes, etc were, and to intereact with the pets. I especially like that they always leave little notes in the house (or will email me if I am out of town) to let me know how the animals are doing. They'll even water your plants for you. I usually ask them to come over on a short notice, and have never had trouble scheduling with them. All the girls are great to work with!

Stay-at-Home pets has now watched our cats twice. Both experiences have been precisely as contracted. They take detailed instructions and execute as requested. All evidence is that the cat were quite happy in our absence and the house was just as we wished upon our return.

Animal & House Sitting
Arranging a sitter was easily handled via email. Sitter and backup sitter arrived prior week to go over details and sign paperwork. This was handled well, and we felt comfortable leaving on our trip. While I did not get an email after the first visit as requested, the sitter was very responsive to email to confirm everything was fine. Upon returning, our cat seemed healthy and happy, food and litter box were clean, and plants were watered. Additionally, there was a nice log of daily activities and behavior. We unexpectedly had to have them come out again the following weekend for a family emergency, and this was no problem, either. We'll definitely use them again.
Response from STAY AT HOME PETS
"I am so delighted we were able to accomodate both your original care request and your emergency care request. Our sitters' flexibility is a true asset of our company. Jenifer enjoyed her visits with your cat and was happy to help out when you needed us."

Animal & House Sitting
The initial contact with Michelle was easy. She confirmed availability for the dates we were traveling and set up a walk through with the pet sitter. The pet sitter arrived promptly for the scheduled walk through. We introduced the cats and showed where food and kitty litter accessories are stored. When we left, I left a note detailing instructions that had changed since the walk through. When we returned, the animals were all happy, well fed, and the litter boxes were clean. We even discovered that our kitten was learning how to play fetch! We had a note indicating the date and time of the last visit and giving an overview of how the week went. It appeared that all the instructions I had left had been followed to the letter, and our file was updated to reflect these changes as well. We have used this company in the past, and they have been very dependable and accommodating for us. Last fall we had to leave town on one day's notice because of a family emergency, and Michelle scrambled to get our pets taken care of while we were gone, which we very much appreciated.
Response from STAY AT HOME PETS
"Many thanks to the member for her review, and for the suggestion of the daily log of visits. We have since gone to a daily visit log and all of our clients are very appreciate of it! I am glad we were able to provide last minute care for her pets. Having a family emergency is enough to worry about without the stress of finding pet care. Providing a reliable service clients can depend on when most needed is one of our main goals as pet sitters."

Animal & House Sitting
I came home to a mess. Litter boxes were at least 3 days full and were overflowing. The cats had defectated all over the floor, presumably because the litter boxes were dirty, and none of that had been cleaned up (some was hard, indicating it had been sitting there for at least several days). The plants were very wilted. They clearly had not been watered in at least one week. Sitter never came last day (no note even attempted to be left whereas notes were at least dated for other dates.) I talked with co. Pres. When I got home. She said sitter told her she didn't have enough time to do what was needed. It shouldn't take that long to empty litter boxes and feed cats. It has never taken me that long. Sitter visited before I left and saw what needed to be done and never mentioned anything about it being too much work for projected time allotted for visit. Cats appeared to have been fed, but it didn't seem like she did much else. Co. Pres. was not responsive to complaint. I'd never recommend them.
Response from STAY AT HOME PETS
"IT IS UNFORTUNATE THAT SOME CLIENTS ARE NOT SATISFIED, BUT AFTER PROVIDING VISITS FOR OVER 350 CLIENTS IN THE PAST 7 YEARS, EVENTUALLY SOMEONE WOULD BE UNHAPPY. THIS CLIENT DID RECEIVE A DISCOUNT ON CARE (SHE WAS CHARGED FOR 30-MINUTE VISITS EVEN THOUGH 2 SEPARATE SITTERS REPORTED THAT IT TOOK 45-MINUTES OR MORE TO CLEAN UP AFTER AND CARE FOR HER PETS) AND SHE WAS NOT CHARGED FOR THE VISITS ALLEGEDLY NOT PROVIDED BY THE SITTER. AS THE COMPANY PRESIDENT I DID RESPOND TO THE CLIENT'S COMPLAINT IMMEDIATELY, INCLUDING MEETING WITH HER PERSONALLY TO RETURN HER KEYS AND HEAR HER COMPLAINT. THE SITTER IN QUESTION CONTINUES TO BE REQUESTED TO CARE FOR OTHER PETS ON A REGULAR BASIS, WITH ONLY PRAISE FROM THE CLIENTS FOR HER ATTENTION TO DETAIL AND OBVIOUS CARE FOR THEIR PETS."
