Horizon Garage Doors

I chose Horizon for a complex garage door replacement based on rave reviews and while the end product seems good the process to get there was an absolute nightmare. Project consisted of replacing a two-door garage setup with a single large/wide door. This required demolition of the existing garage opening and reframing it to support the larger door setup. Everything was initially great until we got closer to the start of the work. Out of the blue I received an e-mail with a work schedule for the install which wanted to start in just 2 days. Unfortunately that was a busy week for me so I asked to have the work rescheduled and gave them my availability. They agreed to reschedule it for two weeks later but said they would send a confirmation and updated schedule once they’ve finalized a new install date. That never happened and I was calling and e-mailing them up until the Sunday of the week that work was penciled in to start to see if they were going to start work the next day on Monday before finally getting an answer that the install would not start until the middle of the week. So once work did begin they removed the old doors and equipment and then demolished and reframed the opening. However, the initial framing ended up failing the county inspection and for the next 1.5 weeks there was absolute radio silence from Horizon on what they were doing to rectify the situation and what the new timeframe would be. E-mails sent for information and clarification mostly garnered little to no answers and simply tried to assure me that things were being worked on as fast as they could. And maybe they were, but it’s impossible for the customer to perceive that if they refuse to communicate and at least give a general ballpark estimate for when things will get resolved. And during this entire time I had to deal with a non-functional garage and plenty of anxiety and worry about what the h*** is actually going on. After a long wait they finally came back to rework the framing and over the next week there was a constant back and forth with the county inspectors to get things hammered out. And quite frankly, it was very clear that they didn’t know what they were doing and simply were tackling it via trial-and-error until something finally stuck. All the while I was left in the dark as to what was going on and whether or not I even needed to be home for it (I wasn’t) which ended up costing a lot of vacation/PTO hours for nothing. Any delays or additional work that they had to do were repeatedly shrugged off as simply being normal and part of the process. Well it may be true that this was all part of the process but it doesn’t change the fact that it’s a stupidly bad process. At long last they finally passed the inspection and got approval to continue with the install. They came back one day to finish the exterior of the house and install additional framing and then two days later came back to do the actual door and opener install. At long last, it seemed like it was finally over except they had gone ahead and created two exterior light fixtures even though I had previously stated that I didn’t want or intend to have any exterior lights installed. Took them over two weeks to finally return to remove the light fixtures and redo the siding to fix the issue. Then just as I thought things were finally done I’m hit with surprise news that the county inspectors have to be scheduled to come back for a final inspection. Inspectors didn’t even come inside so it was yet another wasted day. So, for a project that was originally estimated to only take 3-5 days of work if all went well, it ended up taking 3+ weeks of agony to get back a working garage, over 5+ weeks if you include the wait time that it took for them to come back and fix their mistake, and 6 weeks if you include the final inspection. In summary, if all you need is a simple garage door replacement then Horizon is (probably) fine. Otherwise if you need anything that involves construction work then you had best look elsewhere unless you really want to be stuck in their “process”.

Flawlessly. Just wished they would have asked if I wanted a higher grade spring rated for more cycles prior to doing the work.

5 star across the board ! They are very professional and very friendly. I'm gonna use them again in the future. I really like the way they handle our concern with our garage. They didn't charge us for a service fee when they came out.

Great experience from quick scheduling, receiving free estimate, sales presentation to include actual garage door samples, and best pricing from list of companies I received quotes from. Horizon was the most detailed and thorough when presenting their products and installation scheduling was quick. The installers were very professional and explained the process and cleaned up everything once done.

Ben and his team were very professional, upfront, and fast! His estimate was the best out of five estimates I received. I converted my extension springs to torsion springs and replaced my overhead motors with Liftmaster wall mounted motors for my two door, two car garage. He was extremely professional and paid great attention to detail while installing my motors. His responsiveness and professionalism were well above the competition.

we got proposals from 3 companies and chose Horizon because they were the only ones who offered to repair the motor . the other 2 were going to replace it. horizon's prices were competitive and suggested installing insulated doors which were not very expensive. the other 2 were charging a lot for insulated doors. i checked Horizon's reference on BBB, our Neighborhood app and Angie;s list. the work was done in time. in addition, they also bolted the center piece between 2 garage doors to the concrete.

I highly recommend Horizon. They were the lowest estimate with the highest quality materials in the estimate. They were also able to complete the work the fastest. A rare combination.

I am very pleased with the performance of the Lift Master 8355W that was installed on 25 Jan 19 by Ben and Billy of Horizon. So far, I've been using the opener now for almost two weeks with no problems. After using Angie's List to research "A" rated companies, I chose Horizon due to positive customer reviews and a reasonable price. They arrived within the scheduled time frame, discussed the job, and started working without delay. The price was exactly what they had proposed. There was a communication issue with their area code 410 number going to another business; Ben said they would get that corrected; the area code 301 number worked fine. Horizon was the only company that emailed detailed information on the two openers they proposed along with price proposals with each cost element.

Ben and Horizon Garage Doors were fantastic; punctual, friendly, responsive, knowledgeable. We have an old wooden garage door and unclear when it was last serviced. They assessed and identified all the needed issues (other problems than just the spring...cables, pulleys) and recommended repairs at value prices. They were quick and efficient with attention to detail. Very positive experience. When we are ready to replace the door, we will be requesting their services again. Strong work!

Great! Ben went above and beyond to get our new garage door installed and working. We would definitely use this company again.

Installation of two doors and two openers went smoothly. There was a problem with the location of the garage door openers which was resolved after a service call. One suggestion is that Horizon should inform the customer that it is necessary to register BOTH the door and the door opener manufacturer with their respective manufacturers for warranty coverage.

The service techs were very polite, neat and did not try to upsell anything. They communicated the time of arrival over an hour before they actually arrived, which was accurate. They were informative in also letting me know their space requirements for teir work area so they can do their job efficiently and neatly. Very good experience.

Very well. Horizon was very responsive and because it was a holiday (1/2/17), they could not make it out until the evening, but stayed into the night to finish the job. The technician did a very professional job and the garage door opener works great.

Representative gave me some valuable info on my doors. Suggested the doors be replaced. I did not watch him do his work, which I usually do. Doors still seem tight, did not explain to what he did, but did initially tell me what he was going to do.
