When things go well there is no story to tell. He came, he performed his duties excellently, and he left. This is just the way things are supposed to go when you hire a service.
Description of Work: The electrician that was sent- Danny, installed two bedroom arm lights, installed a light on a fan, and installed a light in the basement in a laundry area. He performed his tasks professionally, neatly, and politely. He cleaned up after himself. I would recommend this company to anyone!

We were very pleased with the experience, from the first phone call all the way through the visit. The guy actually diagnosed our "problem" over the phone from just a short conversation, but he offered that a technician could come out to look at things and reassure us if I wanted. I decided I did want a technician to come out. He was on time and looked everything over thoroughly and did a great job.
Description of Work: Technician checked our wiring and tightened a connection. He also gave suggestions on potential improvements to our wiring and provided an estimate on some additional repairs.

Called, got someone, set up a time. They came as promised, fixed the light and charged me. Nothing fancy or complicated - it just went right.

FANTASTIC. FROM THE INITIAL CONTACT TO THE FINAL DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR. THE WORK WAS PROFESSIONAL AND PLEASANT. THE REPAIRMAN, DAN, ALLOWED US TO OBSERVE THE REPAIR PROCESS AND WAS EAGER TO EXPLAIN EVERYTHING HE WAS DOING. DAN WAS EXTREMELY PLEASANT AND KNOWLEDGABLE AND TOOK TIME TO EXPLAIN INDUSTRY STANDARDS AND CODES. HE WORKED UNSTOPPINGLY(IS THAT A REAL WORD?) AND CLEANED UP AFTER THE REPAIRS. IF YOU WANT A GOOD RELIABLE ELECTRICIAN, CERTIFIED IS YOUR MAN. HE IS MY ONLY ELECTRIC CONTRACTOR FROM NOW ON. THE WORK WAS TIMELY AND EFFICIENT.

It was a job very well done. The technician who came out was on time. He was very personable. He was very knowledgeable and explained everything to us. He concentrated on his work well. He made appropriate suggestions and put forward innovative ideas and advised us on what kind of lighting fixtures will work in some of the very difficult and dark places of our house. We liked his work so much that we are having him install motion detector lights on our stairs. I m very happy that I found this company. It is rare to find that kind of professionalism and capability of excellent work. He is genuinely a nice and kind person, we felt very comfortable with him in our house. I think the price was reasonable for his excellent work and expertise. The company always seems to be available to talk to you, it was easy to set up appointments and it is mostly one person who answers your call which is great.
Description of Work: They put in two new light fixtures in the basement and in the bedroom.

I called for service to fix plugs and install lighting. Person on phone warned me lighting would be easy and plugs might prove difficult, given that we have an older house. Gave me estimate for both. As predicted lights were easy(although one part of lighting install could not be performed)and plugs proved too difficult. The tech was friendly and profession, and knowledgeable, but he did not have a ton of experience with the type of old house we have. He stopped well short of the expense of the estimate, and he did not even charge me for a part that he had to provide that I had thought I had. Overall excellent experience.

Company was very responsive by e-mail setting up an appointment to review the work needed and give an estimate. Technician was prompt and answered all my questions. The work involved going up to the roof and creating an opening into the attic space, installing the cable and threading it down through a wall to an outlet in the bedroom that had formerly held an antenna wire. Service was planned for 8-10 am period, and I received a call at 8 am that technician was tied up in traffic, and exactly when he would arrive. He arrived at that time and proceeded to complete the work as planned. He left extensions available for future cable lines to be placed in other bedrooms.
Description of Work: installed cable to a bedroom TV on the second floor without dragging cable across walls and floor. (I wanted it installed in the attic space, with no unsightly cables showing, and the cable company said they don't do that work anymore, and to call an electrician.)

He was responsive, but not in a way that was appreciated.
Description of Work: We had several contractors place bids on an electrical job we are doing. Gary was prompt in getting the bid in, but I didn't have a good feeling about him as I discovered he put up magnets for his company on our fridge and electrical box when I wasn't looking during the walk through. I found that to be very rude. Then we asked for an updated estimate, which he got to us, but in the interim there was confusion over whether we were going to use them or not. I explained that we were not yet ready to use him and he cleared it up, which was appreciated. However, when I sent him an email to say, "Thank you for your time. We have decided to go with another contractor who was able to start today." his response was: "Had you and your husband been capable of making a timely decision, we could have started today as well". I was really offended and found him to be incredibly rude. Everyone else I took a bid from was really pleasant. I then re-read some Angie's list response he posted to someone else's comment, and that seemed snarky, too! Not the contractor for us!

Forest arrived on time, listened to my explain the problem, and did extensive testing to get at the root of the issue. He then spent quite a bit of time inspecting the wiring inside and outside my house, not quitting until he found a solution. Throughout, he was professional and highly knowledgeable. In addition, the charge was extremely reasonable for the work performed. I would recommend Certified Electrical in general and Forest in particular to anyone needing electrical work.

Certified Electrical Technologies indicates they prefer not to perform work in DC if it would require a permit. It would be nice for this information to be reflected in the Angie's List review on them. The company they referred me to for permitted electrical work in DC did not seem terribly customer friendly, which is why I gave Certified the "C" rating (the referral company does not "schedule" estimates, the contact person at the referral company said he did not know the DC area very well, the referral company only works in DC until 2PM, etc).

Alan is the electrician that was sent out to us. He was prompt, polite, efficient, very professional. The phone guy was here the same time the electrical work was being done. Alan overheard a conversation between my husband and the phone guy about dropping wires thru ceiling for clean and good looking install of flat screen TV in our living room. Phone guy wasn't able to make it the clean job that we wanted-he'd go over doorways and leave a trail of wires showing. Alan said he could do the type of install we wanted, and so he got himself/his company another day's work. In fact, the garage lighting and additional outlet wasn't part of our original plan either-we just liked the quality of his work and grew our list since they were so accommodating and professional.
Description of Work: Upgraded electrical in our 60's era home. Repaired double tap issue in our electrical box, changed 35 outlets in home from 2 prong to 3 prong outlets, installed full house surge protector, ran wires from attic into living room for easy install of flat screen TV, ran wires to garage for overhead lighting, added additional outlet in garage for workbench.

We had a very old ceiling fan that did not function and needed it replaced with a new one which we had purchased. The technician called prior to coming out, arrived when expected and then ran into difficulties. The old fan had been put in with little regard to due electrical process, so a number of things had to be changed and replaced that included a trip to an attic full of insulation material. He was very efficient, professional and did the extra work with a smile.

I called one day to make an appointment and the electrician - Tim - came early the next business day. He called to let me know he was on the way (as promised), and arrived on time. He got half way through the installation, which required two cable connections, when he told me he didn't have enough cable for the job. That was ENTIRELY my fault, for providing an incorrect measurement when I set up the appointment. However, Tim gave me an option. To keep the final cost as close to the estimate as possible, I could run to a hardware store and get the additional cable myself while he continued to work, so he wouldn't have to charge me for the trip and extra time. Off I went to the store. He finished the job in less time than I anticipated. He left the two breakers he removed in case another goes bad down the road, and came back later for the excess cable. He was professional - and patient!

Allen was running about 20 minutes late (traffic) and called to let me know. He arrived, surveyed the layout and started in the hallway. Success. He then started in the kitchen and recommended a better layout of where I had originally suggested. His reasons made sense to me and we went with his suggested location. Several trips to the attic and the wiring was complete. Lighting scheme was as good as I had expected. Allen was professional; cleaned up the job site and even offered some advice on under-counter lighting to consider as I'd not made a choice yet for that part of the kitchen renovation. He even told me how to hook up the ceiling fan I was going to install at a later part of the renovation. One episode of the day was not foreseen - when he cut the ceiling template out for one of the "cans", he stirred up a bunch of ants that were apparently living in the attic. I wasn't aware that I had some ants in the house, but now am aware to investigate an exterminator.
Description of Work: I needed recessed lighting installed in the kitchen prior to a remodel. I needed additional recessed lighting installed in my hallway. Total of 8 (5+3). Hallway consisted of replacing an existing globe light and adding two additional "cans" over closets. Installed five new "cans" in the kitchen.

Initial Estimate. The initial meeting with Gary to discuss potential lighting solutions was very informative and professional. He answered all my questions concerning the level lighting and what solutions would work best for my lighting needs. I had already decided on recessed light, I just didn t know how many I would need. Gary helped me to finalize that decision. 1st Service Visit: I was having granite installed in my dry bar area and I wanted an electrical outlet added before the granite was in. Gary was able to accommodate me and had a technician come out and do this. He didn t charge me for this additional service visit which I though was great. 2nd Service Visit - On the service visit, Alan came out to continue the job. He completed the kitchen lights/dimmer, dry bar lights/dimmer, and pool table electrical box/switch. I am very happy with the kitchen, Alan minimized the amount of drywall he had to cut into and cut the drywall at an angle so I could repair it easily. He also completed the dry bar and pool table light with no drywall repair needed. The workmanship was great and I am very happy with the results. Potential Problem/Emergency Visit. I was unable to be there for the completion of the 2nd service visit. When I got home my house was very warm and after some investigation I saw that the circuit breaker had been tripped. When I reset the breaker the A/C did not come back on. I went to look at the dry bar and pool table light (which is in the same area as the furnace) and everything seemed to be wired correctly (nothing was daisy chained off the furnace). I sent an email to Gary that night to inform him of the situation and he said he would get someone out the next day to take a look. Gary actually came out himself to take a look and found the switch to turn the furnace on/off had a short. The wire had come out and split the plastic on the back of the switch and caused the breaker to trip. Gary replaced the switch free of charge. My theory on what happen was that when Alan was working down there, while doing the other work, between hammering and what not; the wire came out of the little slot. You see, the homebuilder did a poor job of installing these switches by not securing them down with the screws; they just inserted the wires into the slots in the back. This doesn t hold up well to vibration and other work being done. I was very happy with how Gary took care of the problem when they weren t directly responsible for the issue to begin with. The homebuilder should have never hooked up the switches that way to begin with. Had the homebuilder done that, there wouldn t have been a problem. Again, I was very pleased that they took care of the issue when it wasn t their fault.
Description of Work: Kitchen Removal of a fluorescent light and installation of 5 recessed lights on a dimmer. Dry Bar Installation of 2 recessed lights on a dimmer. Installation of an electrical outlet. Basement Installation of an electrical box on a switch to eventually be used for a pool table light. Future Basement Work - Installation of recessed light on 2 dimmers. Installation of a surge protector on the breaker box.

Our experience was excellent. The company was responsive to our initial call; we contacted them on Monday after business hours. They called us Tuesday morning and set up an appointment for Thursday morning. They said the service technician would arrive between 7-9am; he arrived at 8am. The technician was great and friendly. He even installed an attic fan for us, something we didn't have planned for the visit, but he noticed that we didn't have one. He completed his work by 2pm and everything works perfectly. He even cleaned up after himself; you would never even know he had been there. The bill was cheaper than we expected, which was a fitting end to the whole experience! We would definitely recommend this company to anybody needing any electrical work completed.

Certified had just installed a new electrical line to the pump and hooked it up the week before. It ran for a few minutes and then shut off. It seemed like an electrical problem so I emailed Gary around 7pm on a weeknight asking to have someone come out as soon as possible. He emailed me back around 9:30 pm asking what time I could be home to meet someone the next day. We agreed on late afternoon. Gary, himself, showed up late that afternoon saying that he didn't have anyone free but had promised me that someone would be there, so he was going to be the one. He checked out the prior work and determined that the pump had burned out for reasons unrelated to the work they had done. Again, very knowledgeable and professional, and the BEST customer service!

One of our circuit breakers kept shutting off after we had some renovations done to our home. This breaker was connected to our water heater and our hot water would not stay hot. I called Gary, after seeing the company listed on Angie's list and realized he had done work for the company I work for. They were prompt, friendly and efficient. They fixed the problem by moving one of the wires that was on this circuit to another breaker. The circuit breaker hasn't tripped since the work was completed. They also replaced a bad electrical receptacle in the kitchen. I plan to have them replace our electrical panel in the future.
