I was happy with my experience with them. It was an average experience. A lot of electricians never answer my phone calls. It was a small job. The quality of their work was fine.

Since when is a credit card number required to get an appointment with an electrician? I'm not about to start giving that out over the phone, especially before any work has been done. To make matters worse, the email correspondence lacked professionalism.

Response from Certified Electrical Technologies
Like all companies we have corporate policies. We are very up front and open about our policies. We require a credit card to reserve an appointment. Just like Hotels, or Car Rental firms and for the same reason - to eliminate "no shows". We have found that when someone provides their credit card, they make a commitment to the appointment, just like we do. We started this about 5 years ago and have found it has eliminated "no shows". We do not charge a card until a customer authorizes any charge, and in 30+ years in business we have never had a problem with a credit card. We have found through experience that anyone unwilling to commit to an appointment, does not take it seriously, and likely will not keep the appointment. That said, we are very sensitive to personal information and if someone explains that they are uncomfortable with our policy, we always find a way to work things out. We are very easy to work with.

I called Certified on Thursday, they set up an appointment for Saturday and the repair, which required dismantling the entire fixture was done quickly and efficiently - with a 10% Angie's list discount! Next time I'll call them BEFORE I try and fix it myself.
Description of Work: A jammed light bulb made the ligting fixture in our kitchen inoperable and my attempts to remove it damaged the screw thread, which meant that the whole socket had to be replaced.

This was a "Big Deal" I purchased for a home I just moved into. I had never thought of buying this service, but I'm glad I did, based on what I've read since then. The product installer was prompt and professional. He located the main electrical box, explained the options for location of the gadget, then installed it, cleaning up afterward. He also recommended buying individual surge protectors for computer and video computer because of possible surges starting within the home from faulty equipment. Reading I've done on-line supports this recommendation. I thought the $175 cost might be on the high side, but I've read that the gadgets cost $200-1,000, plus installation costs, so I'm satisfied it was a good deal.

I contacted Certified Electrical to see if there was anything they needed to know about my system's electrical box in order to install the Surge Protector. The young lady on the phone was very helpful and asked me if I could send pictures of the electrical box. She called back 15 mintues after receiving the pictures and told me the tech said their wasn't room in the box and they would need to install a Tandem Breaker and the cost would be an additional $100. I was able to make an appointment within a week and given a time between 8 - 12 noon. The Electrician called around 8 am to let me know he'd be at my home within a half-hour. Danny, the Electrician, arrived on time and proceeded to do the install. He did forget to tell me he'd have to turn the power off (which I should have realized he'd have to do ... duh)! About a half-hour after Danny left my TV and Internet service would not work which I thought was a strange coincidence. I contacted Verizon and the computer voice said there was an outage in my area. Okay. A few minutes later my alarm system started to go off. What the ...! My alarm company called and after confirming who I was they transferred me to their tech support because they were getting a low battery message. (Which was strange since I changed the battery less then a year ago.) Tech support had me check some things and the transformer for my alarm system was burnt on top and the outlet had turned gray. It experienced a power surge. They recommended I contact Certified Electrical to see what the problem might be. I contacted Certified Electrical and Steve walked me through finding which GFI had tripped when Danny was working on the electrical box. Steve was very patient while I ran around my house. I finally found the one that was hiding in my garage -- problem solved. Even though my morning turned into an aerobic activity (running around my house) I am very satisfied with the service I received and would use this company again. (Thank you Steve for keeping me sane!)
Description of Work: I took advantage of an Angie's List "Big Deal" to have a Whole House Surge Protector installed in my home for $175 which was a great savings! I had previously had estimates from different companies averaging $400 - $500.

Called based on other strong Angie's reports, pleasant conversation over the phone with rough estimate of price (just to give me a ballpark at my request), came out to give estimate, discussed layout of cans, etc. (final price ended up being lower than initial estimate), and work was scheduled. All of this happened within a week or so of phone call--very fast response. Minor snafu where one set of lights didn't get connected; Gary was extremely responsive and employee was scheduled to correct the problem immediately. Granted its nice to avoid snafus in the first place but these things happen to everyone and its far more important to me that they were so responsive about getting it taken care of--I would hire them again without hesitation because I know they'll get the job done right, are timely, honest, and fair.

I spoke again with Gary. Their schedule was booked, but he fit me in within two days of my call. Once again they sent out Danny who was quick, prompt and skilled. My job was done in less than an hour and with a coupon CET had sent me after the first job it cost only $105. I would call these folks again if I needed something big or small.
Description of Work: I had work with CET on a DIY project before. They had come in and installed a couple of circuit breakers for me. I was wiring some lights with two switches and a dimmer. I decided it was a bit over my head so I called CET back to see if they had time to fit in a quick wiring job.

I called CET and talked to Gary and gave him a rough idea about what I needed. He gave me options from his team doing everything to me running the wires to the panel, supplying the materials and having his folks just hooking things up. The price was very reasonable and so I ran the wires to the panel and called Gary back when I was ready. An appointment was scheduled at my convenience and the CET electrician, Danny, arrived right on time. Danny knew his stuff and made quick work of hooking up the circuits and installing the plug for the washer/dryer. He also took a few moments to listen as I walked him through my DIY project and offered some great advice. More than that was the peace of mind that came with talking through the project with a professional. Danny was very helpful and his feedback was very useful. I would hire CET again for any project big or small.

Overall, it went pretty smoothly, with a few exceptions I'll state at the end. The exceptions involved BGE's part of the job, not Certified. The first step was getting and estimate from Gary. He came out, assessed the needs of the job and wrote up and estimate. The job was to be completed on a flat-rate basis. Certified took care of all permitting, etc. The scheduled day of the job, the technician, Danny, and his assistant, arrived on time. They did a great job of explaining what needed to be done and how they intended to accomplish it. The biggest challenge was the fact they needed to run a ground wire all they way across my mostly finished basement, to connect to the main water line. They warned me that they might need to punch holes in the ceiling to run the wires, but would do their best to avoid this. When all was done and said... no holes, no damage to any drywall or other surfaces. They had the box replaced, all the circuits rewired and everything working as before, before the end of the day. They left a spotless job site and again, not a spot of damage. Pretty amazing considering the amplitude of the job. An inspection was scheduled and performed by Balto. County soon after. Most of the job passed inspection, w/ the exception of adding a piece of conduit on the side of the house, on the main line. Certified returned soon after and completed this step to satisfy the inspector. Due to the fact that BGE had to finish some of the work (hooking up the new main line to the wires coming off the pole, replacing the meter), Danny could only temporarily hook up the power the day of the upgrade. I then had to call BGE and schedule them to come out to finish the work. When the BGE contractors (not actual BGE employees), got here, they refused to complete the job, claiming the electrician needed to be there as well. It took another month or so until all parties were able to get a commonly available date. Certified showed up exactly on time, BGE contractors were and hour late. It took them less than an hour to complete the hook up. Overall, I'd say it was very positive experience. I had expected much more drama and a longer time frame to complete the job (w/ the exception of the final hook up fiasco). From scheduling, to estimate to actual work, all involved at Certified show professionalism and respect. I never felt pressured to do something that I wasn't comfortable w/. Danny, in particular, was very competent, friendly and I enjoyed both his candor and shooting the breeze w/ him. I think if there is any criticism, it is that I wish I had been made more aware of what could be potentially involved in getting the final steps completed. Due to the ineptitude on the part of BGE, it took almost 2 months from beginning to end to have things finally complete, but less than 1.5 days of actual work. If I would have know it was going to be like that, I could have tempered my expectations accordingly. FYI: Since the job was completed on a flat-rate bid, I was never charged for any extra time Certified spent satisfying the inspection-required fix or the final hook up.
Description of Work: Had my main electric service upgraded from 100 amps to 200 amps. Involved replacing the circuit breaker box, electrical meter and the main power line coming into my house from the main service connection.

The electrician they sent, Danny, was very professional, knowledgeable and he did a good job. I asked him questions about some other light fixtures I have and he very kindly gave me advice. I don't know what the average rate is for electricians, but so far these guys were worth every dollar.
Description of Work: I had 2 outlets in my bathroom that had stopped working. The electrician went into the master bathroom and reset the GFCI. My outlets now worked...I did not know the three outlets were connected. I figured it was an expensive lesson but a good one. (It cost $125.00 for the initial hour.) I also had mentioned a light over the kitchen sink that needed replacing. My son had started on it but didn't have the right tools. The electrician looked at what I had and said he could mount it the time remaining. I was thrilled. I now have 2 working outlets and a light over the kitchen sink.

Our outdoor high voltage ligthing system was causing our circuit breaker to trip because of a short in the system. CET came out with all of the necessary tools and parts to fix the system. They had to dig outside and diagnose both inside and outside. I was particulary pleased that not only did he do the job in two hours he was very careful to remove his shoes before entering the house each time. So we were very happy to have our outdoor lights to be operative again without having to replace it.

We had a wonderful experience with this contractor. The employee (Danny) that did the work was very prompt. He even called to tell us he would arrive in 1/2 hour, which was really nice. He completed the construction of the microwave circuit in no time, with absolutely no fuss. Then, he moved on to installing the ceiling fans, all the while checking to make sure they were the way I wanted (but only asking necessary questions, not over-questioning). He didn't mind the fact that other contractors were simultaneously working in our house. He was very courteous to them and to me. I have already set up an appointment for Danny to return and put in some recessed lighting for us. I would not hesitate to use or recommend this company, as they are very easy, professional, accommodating, and do excellent work with no muss or fuss.
Description of Work: Constructed a dedicated circuit for the microwave, which was previously on a shared light circuit, and installed 3 ceiling fans
