Outstanding service, the electrician fixed all the problems we had and he did it very efficiently. He also worked hard to find a way to run a wire from our second floor down to our basement. He persisted and succeeded. This was an angie's list big deal and it was well worth it. We will definitely use this company again!

Great service. Alan was on time, professional, and explained everything that would be done (even though he'd explained it all during the estimate). He was careful not to mark/damage any walls, and consulted me when something was going to require more work than I had expected. And, nicest touch of all, he cleaned up the bits of dust and drywall shavings before he left, rather than leave them for me.

Service was scheduled between 8:00-12:00. He called when he was 5-10 min away; arrived around 10:00. Very pleasant and personable. We discussed what needed to be done. He was aware I had rcomplained of a circuit shutting off when running one of our window air conditioners and had originally requested service for this. I told him when I made the appt I was told why it was happening and what we needed to do. He proceeded to install the light, check the circuit breaker and replace the outlets (using materials we had previously purchased). He finished within the 2-hr period. No other expenses were incurred.
Description of Work: We had a new light fixture installed in the kitchen and several outlets and switches chaged throughout the house, checked the circuit breaker.

The Technician was delayed but called me to inform me that he had to handle an emergency call prior to mine. When he arrived he was very pleasant and professional and completed the installation in less time than anticipated. Overall I was very pleased with the Technician and the work and plan to use them again.

They were very responsive and punctual. Technician called ahead of time to confirm scope of work. When he confirmed that a ceiling fan was not working, he recommended I get another fan in advance just in case the fan needed to be replaced, in order to save a trip back. Well, that's exactly what happened, and he was able to complete the job in one trip!

When we schedule a service visit we ask lots of questions to ensure when our service tech shows up he is as prepared as possible in an effort to save our clients money. When we suspect that a light fixture or ceiling fan is defective, we always suggest that the client purchase a new fan or fixture for replacement if the tech determines that to be the failure. We are able to solve the problem in 1 visit instead of 2 which cuts the clients cost in half. This is one of many things we do to ensure 100% customer satisfaction Thanks for the great review. We look forward to your next project !

I needed 2 dedicated electrical outlets for new sump pumps installed in my basement, so I called the Rockville office of Certified Electrical Technologies--a company that had previously installed a whole house surge protector for me. The phone rang for a long time, and the man who answered the phone was very gruff and short--I probably interrupted his lunch. If I hadn't dealt with this company previously, I would have thought twice about CET. I knew he wouldn't be coming to the house and that CET Rockville has great technicians. Rob came out on the day of the appointment. He called ahead as promised and arrived on time. Rob was here for 2 hours; he strung a lot of wire in order to install the outlets, and since it's an unfinished basement there was little wood to attach the wires to. Rob was professional, polite, very neat and tidy; he even secured the wires and alarm units of the sump pumps. I was very pleased with the work Rob did.

I purchased a Big Deal for 2 hours of work from CET, hoping to get our exterior lights replaced. We had received as a gift a set of matching lights which were very expensive and very heavy (approx 10lbs each). While I have some experience with minor electrical (my father is a general contractor and I grew up working with him), I was concerned about getting these properly mounted and wanted to enlist a professional. In addition, these new lights were larger than the existing lights and required a larger siding mounting block, something I'm unfamiliar with. I was hoping to find someone that would come out, look at the fixtures we were trying to hang, see what needed to be done to hang them, and install them. Instead, I had one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had. When I called CET to schedule the work, the guy that I talked to was extremely rude and condescending. I found to my chagrin that they only provide estimates over the phone (I know some people prefer this, but this was not what I was hoping for as they seemed to blow off my concern about the fixtures being unusually heavy). When I asked about a few other things my husband and I were hoping to have done (replace a fixture in the bathroom that would require installing a fixture box in the wall) he seemed uninterested in this, presumably because it would require extra effort. When I asked about doing this, he told me that if they did that, the fixture wouldn't be centered above the sink. When I pointedly asked if there were ways that the box could be centered if necessary using cross pieces, etc. (which I know for a fact is doable), he grudgingly said, "yeah, i guess we could do that, but we wouldn't repair any drywall that we had to cut." So, I asked if they could recommend anyone to patch up the drywall (since we're new homeowners in the area), and his response was "nope, you're on your own." He also informed me that in addition to purchasing the fixtures, I would need to purchase the siding blocks to mount the fixtures on, the post for the post lamp, and provide concrete for them to put the post in. (My husband's response when I told him this was "Gee, I hope they bring their own tools.") He then refused to recommend a place for me to acquire all of these pre-requisites. What really took the cake was when I asked about the possibility of putting a sensor on the exterior lights so that we could have them come on automatically, he said "oh no, they don't make such a thing". This is an outright lie, as the reason I asked was because my in-laws had had that exact thing done, and a follow-up Google search to prove I wasn't crazy showed pages of results on doing just that. I was so upset by this whole conversation that I very nearly called Angie's List and requested a refund for my Big Deal and called off the whole thing. I felt he was rude, condescending, and dismissive of me. Thinking I was maybe being overly sensitive (since I have some background in construction, I can be rather touchy about people assuming a woman doesn't know what she's talking about), I called back later and did speak to a much more helpful guy who was quite apologetic about my previous experience, and was able to suggest a timer for the outside lights as he explained many sensors can be hard to install on decorative fixtures, and also finally suggested a lighting supply store for me to purchase the siding blocks and such (although he was still kind of reluctant about it). He also admitted that he had no idea why the first guy told me I needed to provide concrete, as the post we have is a direct-burial post and does not get cemented in. When the technician came to actually do the work, he seemed baffled by needing to install the new siding blocks and I had to suggest ways to change them out with the old ones. He also spent a considerable amount of time installing the post for our post lamp upside down. I only caught this when he was about to drill a hole in the side of the post to install the daylight sensor and I pointed out that there was already a hole for that and that he should not be drilling a new one (apparently he would have been perfectly happy to leave a random, unplugged hole in the side of my light post, letting water and such in). After fruitlessly attempting to install the sensor in the existing hole (which was too big as it was supposed to be for the wire coming in the bottom), and after I had gotten out the instruction sheet that came with the post (which he hadn't even glanced at), he had to pull the post out and re-install it. To his credit, he did not charge me for the 1/2 hour of time he spent installing the post incorrectly. I am not giving this experience a total F grade, as the work did get completed in the end, and the technician was nice enough and didn't charge me for his screw-up, but it was far from the experience I was hoping for. Besides the rude and condescending phone conversation, I was unhappy at being asked to provide a bunch of supplies which I felt I did not have enough knowledge to be sure I was buying correctly, and which I would much rather have paid a materials fee to have provided by someone with the proper knowledge. Also, I ended up having to supervise the work myself to ensure it was done properly. This completely defeated the purpose of my hiring a professional to do this work. I thought I was paying to get someone more knowledgeable than myself to perform the work. In the end I could have saved some time and hassle and just done the work myself.

Unfortunately reviews like this are the down-side to the 2 hour Big Deals that are so popular. As our hundreds of positive reviews indicate, most people are quite happy with the results, but some subscribers have an unrealistic expectation of the promotion. If we were to send someone out to provide an estimate/walk-thru and then shop for the necessary fixtures and parts specific to a project (our trucks are fully stocked with commonly used items) there would be no time left of the 2 hour promotion to perform the work. This subscriber expected us to do all of this work in preparation of the 1/2 price promotion at no charge. We do our best to ask questions so our techs are as prepared as possible and have clients purchase items that require aesthetic choices (fixtures, colored and special-shaped siding blocks, etc). We are happy to answer as many questions as necessary (including suggestions where to buy items) as the client wishes. Our goal is 100% customer satisfaction ,but as mentioned some of the AL Big Deals put us at a disadvantage based on the time constraints of the promotion Our records indicate that the subscriber did not respond to our follow-up phone call or email on 6/8/12 (work was done 5/31/12). We would have done everything possible to correct the situation including offering a full refund if there is no other way. We will attempt to contact the subsciber again

Eric was extremely punctual and present slightly before the scheduled 3 hour window that I had signed up for and called approximately 30 minutes prior to his arrival. I described the work above and he was EXTREMELY efficient. I had imagined that about three of my projects would be able to be addressed. He took care of four additional items, as described above and still done in less than 1.5 hours. I received follow-up calls from the company to seek feedback and also have received a $20 off coupon a future job. I wish I had more work to be done, so I could use it. ;) Nonetheless, I would recommend this company to anybody who may be looking for an electrician!
Description of Work: I had three "to-do"s for the company when I booked the company that I had guesstimated would take the "2 hours of electrical work" coupon available through Angie's list. This included changing one of the outlets to a GFI outlet in the kitchen and changing two lights (one outside and one at the top of the stairs/foyer). Eric was able to complete all of these within 40 minutes. I also had some other minor work that I didn't necessarily expect there to be time to address, but Eric was able to finish these as well within a total of 1.5 hours. He also made two sets of switches in sync, as the switches to control the lights on the stairs and in the bathroom would both control a light, but not within turning the one switch back to its original position. In addition, there was a switchplate at the bottom of the stairs to the basement that implied I could eventually make use of it, versus the only one prior was at the top of the steps. He installed a new switch in the basement for the lights to be turned on or off from either set of switches. Lastly, there was a weak/loose outlet that I was reluctant to use. He tightened this and ensured its use and safety.

Like many homeowners, I have an ongoing 'work list', and I had been putting this job off for a while. So one morning when a Big Deal popped up in my Inbox, I checked out Certified Electric Technologies and decided that the time had come! I called CET and explained what I needed done, and the office staffer asked a few questions and set up an appointment. As per the terms of the Big Deal, I provided the new light fixture and the new timers. I was also told right upfront what the fee schedule (very reasonable, I might add) would be for any work that took longer than the two hours covered by the Big Deal Coupon. On the morning of the scheduled service, the electrician called when he was about 30 minutes away from my location to let me know when to expect him. As is often the case in a 40-year-old house, there were a couple of things that were not as straightforward as I would have expected. The old light fixture was mounted on the wall, and the new one was to be installed above the door; when Eric removed the old one, he discovered that there were framing members between the two locations that prevented him from just fishing the wiring from one place to the other. We settled on a way to run a few inches of the new wiring along the outside of the wall after I came up with an interesting way that I could "box in" that area and make it look as if it were part of the original construction, and the new light was installed as planned. The timers on the various outdoor lights should be a snap, right? Well, one of the old ones had four wires (the new ones were single-pole), which was a surprise to both of us. I had not been aware that there was a second switch somewhere for one of those lights, despite having lived in this house for 25 years, and we went hunting until we found it in a back corner of my detached garage! Since I saw no reason that I would ever want to turn the light on from that location, he just took that switch out of the loop, and it was done. And all in just two hours, I might add. My only extra cost was for some extra cable and a couple of fittings. There are so many highly rated service providers on Angie's List that choosing one can be daunting, but CET's Big Deal came along at just the right time and made it easy. I was really impressed by everyone that I dealt with and the quality of the work that was done, and I will be calling CET back at some point--there are more light fixtures on my list!
Description of Work: The electrician removed an old outdoor light fixture that no longer worked, installed the new fixture in a slightly different location and replaced two unreliable timers with new ones.

On July 31, 2012, I purchased a "Big Deal" through Angie's List for $125 for 2 Hours of Licensed, Professional Electrical Labor with CET. I had a list of items that needed to be done and this seemed like a good opportunity. I called CET the same day I purchased the deal and I was able to set up the appointment for mid September. The person I spoke with was very friendly and professional. Within minutes of setting up the appointment, I received a confirmation e-mail from CET. The electrician called me the day of my appointment to let me know that he was on his way and would be there within the next 45 minutes. He arrived on time and immediately went to work on my list of repairs/installations. He was very professional and efficient and was able to get all of my repairs done within the 2-hour timespan. The only additional cost to me was a replacement switch, which was only $10. Everything works great! I would definitely hire CET again for any of my electrical needs.

Phil was a very nice guy who did a great job. After each stage, he showed me what he did to make sure I was satisfied, and to explain if there was any difficulty. When he was done, he asked if there was anything else, and that's when I mentioned the GFCI replacement, and he was kind enough to add that in even though it wasn't on the list I gave when I originally requested the service. The price was also much better than I expected. We are slowly making some improvements to our house (built in 1955) and I know we will likely need additional work performed in the future. We will definitely use Certified Electric again if we need an electrician.
Description of Work: We had two outlets that were not working in a small sitting room - one had never worked and the other had recently stopped. It turns out one of them wasn't broken at all - it was just an unused receptacle that needed some extra pressure to plug something in for the first time - oops! The other had loose wiring and was repaired. We also had a ceiling light replaced with a new fixture in the same room on a sloped ceiling. In the bathroom, we replaced the over-mirror lights with a new fixture. We also replaced the receptacle with a GFCI receptacle We had them remove old and dangerous wiring from a shed, clearly a DIY project that a previous owner had done. We didn't need it replaced because we removed the low-voltage lighting ourselves, and the electrician advised he would not be willing to simply hook it back up if we had asked because it was unsafe and very badly done. I also requested a ballpark figure on adding outlets and a garbage disposal in the kitchen in the future. After looking at it, I learned that the one outlet would be easy, so we may do that. However, the other outlet and the disposal would essentially require tearing apart the walls and tiling work, plus the circuit for the disposal is several rooms and a staircase away - so we will not be doing that unless we re-do the entire kitchen.

An initial estimate was given based on the parts and labor for this job. The final bill was within the estimate given. Everyone I spoke to on the phone as well as the two electricians who performed the work were professional. I was told how long the work would take as well as what was required for them to do the work. This type of job required a permit as well as a final inspection after their work was done. A couple of days later the inspector came and passed the work. All in all we are very pleased with the process and most importantly the final product. Its not a fancy granite counter top, but it is a piece of mind knowing that we are safer having the electrical infrastructure modernized.
Description of Work: Our house was built in the late 50's with a breaker panel that is known today to be unsafe. Additionally the wiring on the outside of the house that feeds the meter and the panel was showing signs of age. Commonly referred to as a "heavy up" we decided to have the inside breaker panel as well as the wiring that feeds the system upgraded. Grounding rods and wires were also installed on the outside of the home as well to our inside water lines. Additionally we had a whole house surge protector added to the panel. With so many sensitive electronics in the average home today including major appliances it only makes sense to protect your investments. We now have a 200amp service which replaced our old 125amp. Simply from a visual standpoint the upgrade looks impressive with the larger grade of equipment and better grounding.

A Heavy-Up or Service Upgrade is the process in which the Electrical Service for a home is upgraded. We are normally replacing an older circuit breaker (or fuse) panel with a new circuit breaker panel and circuit breakers. We also update the grounding and bonding system for the home. We coordinate with the local jurisdiction (City, County) to obtain permits and arrange for scheduling of the inspection. We also coordinate with the Electrical Utility in the area for the re-connection of the power upon our completion. The entire project (parts & labor) is backed with a Lifetime Guarantee. For AL clients we install a Whole House Lightning and Surge Arrestor at no additional cost (another AL benefit !) Thank you for the very detailed review. We know that your home is more safe, secure, and valuable with a state of the art electrical service.

Team was very punctual and clear in terms of communication. Put holes in the ceiling to put electrical wiring and lights. they did not patch the holes but this was understandable since they told us that this is not part of the scope of work.

Recessed Lighting is one of our specialties. It is a very economical way to add lighting to almost any room and the results are dramatic. Recessed Lighting can fill the space with light and yet can be subtle when a dimmer is used to control the amount of light. As mentioned, we do not patch or paint the small holes that are necessary when performing projects like this. We feel that this work is better left to those (drywall or painting firms found on AL) who are more proficient in this type of work. Some electrical firms offer to patch and paint as part of the project, of course at additional expense, and it looks like an electrician patched the holes. Congratulations on your new Recessed Lighting. We look forward to your next project !

They were on time. When there was an issue with fixture placement he asked what I wanted, laid out the options, and offered an opinion when asked.

They installed a motion detection fixture in my yard and replaced inside bulbs. They also fixed one of the timers that wouldn't shut off. The motion detection fixture didn't work so they came back out 2 days later and fixed it for no charge. Also, on August 9th they came out and I spent $105.00 for them to fix all of the timers in my house, they reset them all. On May 5th they came out for $549.99 to install dimmers, special light bulbs in my kitchen and family room. They also installed an outside light fixture behind my security camera. On April 22nd they came out for $240.00 and replaced 4 outside flood lights. The two technicians came out, Rob and Rick, were very polite, professional, clean, on time and nice people! The company sends me emails to confirm appointments and thank you notes to thank me for using their company. They have excellent customer service!
