This was a very simple job, but we had used CET before through our warranty service, and they were fantastic both times. The technician replaced an exterior light in no time. We haven't had any problems with it.

I was looking for someone to evaluate my electrical needs and give me an estimate of how much it would cost to do the work that was required. The tech warned me when he first arrived that they would probably not do the work, and then I had to call them again to get the report. As the tech advised, the report did not include any cost estimates. I found the advertisement I had printed, and they did not offer to perform any subsequent electrical service, according to what I paid for. So I was disappointed, and it just seemed like a waste of money, as the electrical contractor I use will have to do the same evaluation. I don't know what the use is of having the evaluation done without an estimate of the cost. Ultimately, it is my fault; if I had realized that they could turn down the job, or not attempt to assist me, I would not have purchased the deal.

Thanks for the feedback. We apologize for not meeting your expectations. Unfortunately this is a case of poor communication. When an AL subscriber purchases a promotion we naturally assume that they want us to perform the project described in the promotion. If they do not mention that they want something other than the work described in the promotion, we have no way of knowing what they really want. The subscriber purchased a 10 Point Electrical Safety Inspection from AL and we scheduled an appointment for the project and sent a tech to perform the inspection, which he did. Upon arrival to the home our tech found that a contractor had started a remodeling project and never returned. According to our tech, the situation was a real mess. The situation was far beyond anything we would take-on. If we had know this at the time of scheduling we would have declined the project and recommended a solution. Our excellent Service Coordinators (all of whom are electricians) do a terrific job at discussing the customers project needs and expectations, but if the customer conceals what they want to have done, the appointment will almost certainly be a disappointment. We want every appointment to be a superior service experience, but without providing us with the information that we need, the customer is potentially setting us up for failure.

The technician showed up and was extremely courteous and professional. He immediately got to work on the two projects I needed him to complete. He cleaned up after himself and made sure everything was working. He saved small talk about football until he was "off the clock" which is greatly appreciated - it shows the technician was not a robot and genuinely enjoyed meeting people and helping them but also respected that customers were paying by time, not services completed.

The electrician how did the work was terrific! He diagnosed the problems accurately and fixed them promptly. I was immediately positively impressed when he arrived as the first thing he did was to put bootie over his shoes so as not to get dirt on our carpets. After he replaced faulty switches and dimmers, I mentioned that it would be helpful to have him also replace burned out flood lights on the outside of our house. He readily agreed and was kind enough to wait while I went to the store to buy new flood lights which he then installed. I was pleasantly surprised by the very reasonable amount I was charged for the service.

I purchased a deal off of Angie's list to have the ceiling fan in my master bedroom installed (the wiring and box were already there). I requested a morning appointment and although I was told it may not be guaranteed, the electrician called me first thing in the morning to notify me he was on his way. Chuck arrived, immediately put on shoe covers before he entered the house and after showing him the fan and room, he proceeded with the install. When he finished he made sure I knew how the new remote functioned and where the spare parts were in case I needed them. He also took the time to make sure I knew which switches controlled my lights (the one I thought should be connected to the fan wasn't - so he changed that for me). When he was finished, all the trash and spare parts were boxed up and there was no evidence that work was just done (I make that point because I've had work done before and know not everyone cleans up after themselves!) Having just moved into the area recently, I wasn't sure who to call when I needed electric work done and without referrals it can be difficult to know who to trust. But Chuck was courteous, friendly, respectful and knowledgeable and he performed the exceptionally well. I won't hesitate to call him or CET again for future electrical needs.

I just received outstanding service from Certified Electric. The technician was prepared, friendly, and extremely knowledgeable. He finished the work within an hour, which was far more quickly than I expected. He explained everything he was doing, and did an amazing job in reattaching my electric meter to the house. The ground had settled and it pulled away. I had asked a few different Companies (plus the Power Company) if they could help, and did not get positive feedback. Certified came in, and he had the job done in 30 minutes. It looks great, and solved a difficult problem. I couldn't be more pleased with the service I received, and would recommend them highly.

We asked for a quote. Twice. We were given some hems and haws and approximates. The first time, we just figured maybe we weren't clear. We called the second time to ask for an actual price quote that included the whole scope of our request. We got even clearer with what we wanted done. Still more hems and haws and maybes. Then they told us they couldn't do any lights in staircases as they do not have any equipment for stairs (i.e., no proper ladders that you can use on stairs). What!? Never mind.

Our Service Coordinators (all of whom are electricians) ask a lot of questions when someone calls about their projects to ensure that we have the capability to perform the work, and if so, that our techs show up with the correct equipment and material to perform the work. Maybes are only given if the caller does not know the specifics of their project. For example: How high is the 2 story ceiling ? A 16' requires different equipment than a 22' ceiling. What are the dimensions of the floor area where we need to setup a ladder? A big ladder requires a big area and we want to ensure the ladder will fit Is the fixture over the stairs above a landing ? What is the size of the landing ? We are trying to determine if a ladder can be setup on the landing or whether scaffolding is necessary. If a caller cannot answer these questions, it is a maybe until they check these factors and call back. When they call back they are given an estimate of the project. If they would prefer that we make a site visit to determine this information, they are given this option. We do charge (a minimal fee) for this visit. This subscriber made it clear that she was obtaining multiple quotes, was not willing to provide the required information for us to estimate the job and would not pay for a site visit. No problem. We don't do business like that and it wasn't a good fit. No reason to get indignant if a company does not agree that it is an opportunity to be one of many firms to provide a free quote nor post a negative review if you don't agree with a company's policies.

I needed a breaker labeled in my breaker box. I had no clue how to go about this, so I asked Certified Electrical for Help. They assured me that this was a simple fix and asked some information about the breaker switch. They told me that type of switch would control lights and outlets. Then they said I could turn on my lights, switch off the breaker and see what lights and outlets were off. They also offered to come out to do the service if I didn't want to do it myself. They were very helpful and responsive for what I needed.

Our Service Managers (all of whom are electricians) help people by phone or email every day. If an issue does not require a service appointment (like this one) we are happy to help our clients (or future clients) resolve issues themselves. This subscriber wanted to make an appointment to have us properly label a unlabeled circuit breaker in her circuit breaker panel. We provided detailed instruction via email how to do this herself. She did a great job and saved money ! This is one of the many ways that we give back to our community, and besides, we love helping people with electrical issues !

CET did a great job replacing the light fixture in our master bedroom with a ceiling fan. David actually came out twice -- for the initial visit, the area above the ceiling fan in the attic was not accessible, which posed the risk of a "messier" installation process. Since we had easy attic access, we decided he should come back after we cut away some floorboards to let him work from above, minimizing the need to cut away ceiling material and reducing the risk of the (old) existing wiring crumbling. The finished job looks totally seamless and the fan works perfectly. David was patient and pleasant, good with our toddler, and did not charge for the initial visit. The ultimate price was less than I was quoted by other contractors. Can't beat a job well done for the lowest price available. Worth the wait!

I informed the technician that I had used a power washer and blown a break and some of the sockets outside and the bathrooms were not working, which is what I wanted resolved today. I was told by the technician that he can do the inspection since they don't take long, but couldn't do any work due to two other calls today. I initially wanted Saturday hours since Angie's List said they provided Saturday hours, I provided 3 dates and was only given a Friday and had to give up a day off from work. In the end I still didn't get the outlets fixed, along with some other small work, like replacing some other outlets and a fixture. He didn't test all the outlets, only a majority of them by plugging a socket tester in, which I could have done myself for cheaper. This deal was misrepresented as it didn't give the homeowner a chance to get the work completed. He did check the master panel and informed me that there was an extra socket. I had my DVR broken by your representative and had to spend additional time of a hour plus gas to go to Verizon and get a new one, since your representative did not turn it off before pulling the power cord. I sent an email requesting Saturday hours and was told it wasn't available at all. Likewise you didn't contact me to ask if I needed additional service, which I would have clearly said yes. However, your technician said he could do no work the day he arrived. I have already hired another electrician to do the work as your technician didn't even test half the outlets in the house unless I pointed them out. He was killing time before his next appointment and complained about customers to me during that time. Not professional.

We are sorry to hear that your were disappointed with the AL 10 Point Safety promotion that you purchased. We have found that good communication is an essential component to a successful service experience. Unfortunately if a client does not communicate their expectations or special requirements to us, it is unlikely that they will be met. During the scheduling process if we find that the subscriber has purchased the wrong promotion or has additional projects or requirements, we will address those issues to ensure that we meet their expectations. The subscriber purchased the AL Safety Inspection and never mentioned that additional repairs were needed (we just checked the message thread) and our techs cannot alter their daily schedule to accommodate unknown additional work at the last minute since this would mean inconveniencing their remaining clients that day. If they find that there is unexpected work that they cannot do that day, they ask the client if they would like to schedule a follow-up visit on the spot. The subscriber declined to schedule additional time to address the repair. With regard to scheduling, the following is taken from the AL message thread: Scheduling: Member suggested dates to schedule service: Morning (AM) on 7/17/2015 Morning (AM) on 7/31/2015 Morning (AM) on 8/7/2015 All of these days are Fridays and no request was ever made for a Saturday appointment. We accommodated the subscriber with an appointment on Friday 7/31/15 as requested. We are very customer service oriented and will do anything we can to provide a superior service experience. Reading minds, however, is not a service that we provide and we rely on clients to communicate any expectations or special requirements that are part of their request for service. If we know about an issue we will do our best to accommodate our clients' request. We think that leaving a poor review based on the subscriber's poor communication of their requirements is, quite frankly, unfair.

I had scheduled an appointment via email for the technician to perform some electrical work. When I had not received a comfirmation call within 48 hours, I checked my email but did not see anything from them in the previous 48 hours. The day they were supposed to come, I checked my emails again and discovered an older email that said they required a credit card as a deposit for the appointment. When I saw that, I immediately called the company. However, when I did not receive a call back in a timely fashion (it took them 1.5 hrs), I contacted another electrician who I found on Angie's List. By the time the original electrician called me back, the work had already been completed at a much better price than I had been quoted by this company. While waiting for the second electrician, I called CET to let them know that I would not need their services, not being sure if they were even coming or not since I had yet to hear from Gary, the salesperson I had been working with. When Gary called me, he proceeded to yell at me that I was inconsiderate for giving them less than 24 hours notice and did not seem to understand that I only sought another company because of the email I received and that he hadn't called me back to confirm they were coming. I had set aside the time to meet them and I would not have another chance for several weeks if the work were not completed today.

First we would like to say that this was a very unusual situation. Rarely in 35+ years have we encountered someone so rude and inconsiderate, especially for an AL subscriber. The subscriber's review is also so detached from the truth it is somewhat disturbing to us. The subscriber contacted us concerning an AL promotion to have a Surge Arrestor installed in her home. We highly recommend these devices and know that they are a great investment. We communicated with her over a period of weeks answering all of her questions. She finally came to the conclusion that she thought that the promotion was too expensive ($199) and she would provide all of the material and asked if we would install the unit. We quoted $95 for labor and on 7/20/15 scheduled the appointment for 7/29/15. When we schedule an appointment, we send a confirmation by email asking that our client confirm the appointment and acknowledge that if they need to cancel or alter the appointment that they give us 24 hours notice. We do not require a deposit and when the subscriber called 1 hour prior to her appointment yesterday saying that she did not want to provide a deposit we explained multiple times that we do not require a deposit. After that issue was cleared-up the subscriber then said that since we did not contact her the day of the appointment to confirm the appointment (we do not call to confirm, but our techs call 30 minutes prior to arrival) she hired another firm that was charging 1/2 what we were charging. So instead of calling us to confirm whether we were coming or not, she is representing that she took time to call other firms, found someone who was doing nothing, and had them perform the installation the same morning that she was expecting us and for less than $47.50 (1/2 of what we quoted). Nonsense. In fact, if the subscriber produces an invoice for the project from another electrical firm for less than $47.50 for the project, we will reimburse her for the job. After getting past the issue with not taking a deposit, which we had her read aloud from the email that she initially said that she did not receive, we asked her to read our simple cancellation policy. "Please let us know at least 24 business hours in advance of an appointment if you need to change or cancel the appointment." We feel that although this should be a common courtesy to cancel an appointment with advance notice, we take the extra steps to let our clients know that we appreciate and expect them to let us know if an appointment cannot be kept. We also realize that emergencies happen and notice is not always possible. We are really easy to deal with as our 1800+ positive reviews in DC & Baltimore indicate. We are also very easy to contact via email or someone answering or phones 24/7. We would really appreciate knowing if someone cannot keep an appointment. Our techs are most affected by "no shows". They are paid hourly and if someone does not show up for an appointment or cancels at the last moment, that is time that they are not paid for that day. Sorry for the rant but we really don't appreciate rude and inconsiderate people.

This was a great experience and I felt like I got true value for my money spent. With 10-year detectors, I will not have to worry about miserable chirping detectors in the middle of the night, or having to climb a ladder and reach over my head to change 9 volt batteries every 6 months!
Description of Work: Installed 7 smoke detectors, 1 regular that I provided and 6 with 10 year batteries that they provided, plus 1 smoke/CO2 detector near gas fireplace. Rob was on time, efficient, and very helpful in explaining how the hard-wiring and connection between the detectors works. He also tightened the fan blades on a wobbling ceiling fan which stopped the wobbling immediately!

My appointment time was between 8-10 AM. (II might have the date wrong). Dale from Certified Electric, called about 8:20 and said he'll be be over at 8:40. Right on time, we had a cup of coffee together and discussed what needed to be done. We went down stairs completed the GFI plug replacement -in fact he moved the plug to a better location. I bothered him during the whole process (talking) and telling war stories. He is very affable young man with a lot of experience. When he was done he looked at the GFI plug upstairs and decided to replace that one also. Everything went great. I would definitely use Certified Electric for any future problems. The service was excellent. They were able to schedule a service call within a couple of days of my phone call. The technician arrived on time and quickly and efficiently replaced an existing ceiling light with a new ceiling fan/light combo, replaced a faulty circuit breaker, fixed a porch light that wasn't working, and suggested a good approach for providing some needed exterior lighting. Then he cleaned up the packing materials and old parts and left things spotless. And, all this, in two hours. Everything has continued to work well since then.

Great--really couldn't have asked for a better experience. Quick reply with competitive estimate based on pictures; schedule easily with online form and showed up on time (in the window). The electrician quickly got to work; talked to me about the problem; and fixed it within the time frame. Everything's fixed now, and the job looks like it was well done. Would highly recommend.
Description of Work: Fixed an external outlet that was shorted; installed waterproof casing; added silicon for waterproofing.

It was terrible. I had a specific question about my fixture. The guy said there was no reason to look at it. He looked at the other stuff and said he can't evaluate anything that isn't in a three-pronged outlet. My whole house is old so it doesn't have three-pronged outlet so basically he wouldn't test anything. In the kitchen he said I need to have GFCI on all my things. At the end, he finally looked at the light fixture and said it looks old and I probably have to replace it. That was it. I was incredibly disappointed! He didn't do anything. They called to find out what I thought and I told them. Basically the guy acted as though I was trying to blackmail him. It was very strange. This was the owner and he was awful. I was not happy all the way around.
Description of Work: I used the Big Deal for Certified Electrical Technologies. Supposedly they were giving me an evaluation of my electrical in my house.

We are sorry to hear that you were disappointed with the AL 10 Point Electrical Safety Inspection. Our tech (who is not the owner) pointed out the following issues: You Kitchen outlets are not GFI protected Your regular outlets are ungrounded (2 prong) and need to be replaced with grounded outlets (3 prong). Since replacement is the only solution, no further evaluation was needed. The fixture that you mentioned was working and disassembling it is outside the scope of the inspection. The tech offered to work on it at additional expense and you declined. We not only emailed you to check how everything went, we also emailed you with the complete results of the inspection and you did not respond to either. Like all of our clients we want you to feel like you received good value, and if not, please request a full refund from AL

They did a really good job. They sorted out how to do it. They even checked our breaker box downstairs because of something I had going on in the basement. They said they could do it whenever I’m ready and just give them a call. They’ll just pop in, do whatever it was and we will be good. The pricing was good. We had some other problems associated with the piece of equipment that we purchased. That wasn’t their fault. He tried to fix it but he just couldn’t fix it. They were very responsive. We had them out again. He was on time. We would use them again in the future and we have used them.
Description of Work: They did a kind of tricky installation.

Please allow us to correct the inaccuracies in your review. On 5/11/15 your purchased an AL promotion called the 10 Point Electrical Safety Inspection. It cost $89. We performed the project 2 days later on 5/13/15. In the inspection our tech found: Your Kitchen receptacles were not GFI protected None of the Smoke Detectors in your home were working There were missing Panel Cover Blanks in the cover to your Circuit Breaker Panel On 5/15/15 we provided an email summary of these safety issues and you chose not to address any of them. We also followed up on 5/14/15 asking if everything was done to your satisfaction and you did not respond. We think you received excellent value for the $89 promotion that you purchased. Perhaps you have our service confused with something else.

Job was relatively simple to replace outlets. We have an older home so he told us we needed a GFCI on each outlet since they didn't have a ground. We had at least one outlet in each room, however, that did have a ground so we were confused, but deferred to their expertise (they theorized the other circuits were done to take air units since we don't have central air). Work was done in 1.5 hrs, and the GFCI circuits cost $20 each for material costs. All in all, work was done well. They don't do patching so some of the outlets have some exposure around the edges since the replacement didn't match up to the hole size. I'd use them again, but likely not before I do another search to see if simple service calls like this can be done for lower cost. If we would have known an electrician ("I've got a guy"), work like this would have likely been way cheaper ($13 per GFCI on Amazon and $100-$150 directly to your electrician and we could have gotten away for a bit less). Responsive on the phone, easy to work with, and very professional. They are more service call based, so any more substantial work with re-wiring or remodels, you'll have to look elsewhere.
Description of Work: Installed 8 GFCI electrical outlets in our home.
