Scheduling went OK. The first day, as requested by the company, I stayed home to ensure the posts were all in the correct location.
Two subcontractors arrived the first day to dig the holes and set the posts in dry-pack concrete.
Before they left for the day, I noted that none of the gates were as wide as specified, and requested that the main gate be enlarged to fit a truck of their size thru, I was told this wouldn't be a problem. After they left for the day, I noticed that many of the posts were still loose, and were not set with the proper amount of cement.
I called Tri-County and confirmed with the amount of cement bags left in the trash, were not sufficient for the number of posts. I requested a supervisor arrive the next morning to confirm these items would be resolved as I had to show up for work the next day.
Day 2, the owner of the company arrives and agrees the posts were not set with sufficient concrete, and agrees that the gate can be made wide enough to fit a work truck through for future deliveries of mulch and other landscaping materials.
When I came home from work that evening I was astonished to see a large crew wrapping up the installation of the fence; however, the gate posts were not corrected. They were still under 8 feet. and the side gates are still under 4 feet. As originally specified in the contract, and well smaller than what I was assured they would be by the installation crew and the company owner.
We contacted Tri-County to have the gate widened and were told that it would be handled. When a crew finally came out, s month later, they said they were only prepared to move the gate 1-2 inches, and hadn?t brought materials to open the gate wide enough to fit a truck thru, like we had been assured would be the case.
We called their salesman and was told it would be $50 more to enlarge the gate, but then we were sent a bill for $365. And then were berated for not filing a change order when the fence was installed. Something that should have been told to us by the Owner, on the day of installation.
Tri-county has demanded payment in full prior to completing the gate change and now are threatening to send us to collections.
I have learned through this debacle that when hiring a fence company, most all use subcontractors to do the actual installation, each of the crew members showed up wearing a different fence company tee-shirt. Verify in writing the depth of each hole that
will be made, and how much concrete will be used to fill it. While the holes are being dug, measure the depth of each hole and when they start placing the posts and concrete ensure the appropriate amount of concrete is added to each hole. You need to be your own General Contractor.
I contacted Susan Cook from Tri County Fence & Decks to provide an estimate for pool fencing for a new in-ground pool. Brad Meyer came to our home to measure for an estimate and showed us options. The next day, we had an estimate that was very
competitive. Having had Tri County do work at our previous home, we were very comfortable with them and knew they would do a good job.
The fence installation was scheduled around our pool construction, which fluctuated due to weather. Susan was very accommodating, and was able to get the crew to our house just when we wanted. The crew was courteous and knowledgeable. During installation, my husband and I decided we wanted a slightly different angle to the fence since our pool is curved. They adjusted the layout and were still able to complete the installation the same day.
We are very happy with the way the fence looks and have already received several compliments on it. We will definitely use Tri County in the future.
