Kustom Floors refinished the white oak floors in our home and did a fabulous job from start to finish.  The floors had been stained a dark color and we decided to have the floors refinished to lighten them up to a natural tone that would make the rooms look bigger.  We got estimates from three companies and decided to go with Kustom Floors because we were so impressed by how well informed and careful Rudy was when he came to do the estimate.  He spent time going through every room and analyzing the house and spoke knowledgeably with me about various options.  He was very responsive to our desire to choose a low-VOC finish that would not leave a dwindling smell and to my questions about potential downsides of refinishing the floors and opting for a different stain. 

He also showed me a number of examples of his previous work on an I-pad he brought with him when he did the estimate, which I found very efficient and helpful.  We received the final estimate the same day he came to the house and before we made our decision, Rudy's team was incredibly responsive to my many questions.  His crew started exactly when we wanted them to and completed the job as scheduled.  Rudy was also very helpful when I decided to make a few adjustments to the original work order;  he was not bothered by the last-minute change in plans and was very helpful to me in figuring out different options. 

The change reduced the overall cost of the project and Rudy credited me on the final bill.  Rudy's team members were very careful when they did the work and left the place clean and tidy.  The floors look spectacular.  I was really impressed by their thoughtful and careful work and would recommend Kustom Floors highly. We will definitely work with Kustom Floors again if we have any other home-improvement projects we would like to do!

A+ SERVICE!  The team replaced our entire floor and stairway in our historic brownstone.  Most recently we've asked them to help with various patchwork and painting.
Rudy and his team are the best anyone could hope for.  Incredibly professional work and a true commitment to the highest standard of quality.  Working with his team, he helped us understand the options and arrive at a result that was better than I'd realized was possible.  
We had a baby coming in a matter of days, and unlike many contractors, we made it to the deadline and were able to bring our new daughter into a fully completed home.

We had a great experience working with Rudy!  He was responsive, punctual, and professional, and our wood floors turned out great.  Rudy's estimate was not the lowest we received (it was on the higher end), but we chose him because he seemed the most knowledgeable.  Besides his knowledge of hardwood floors, he was also the only one that looked at the 9 inch tiles under the layers of shag carpet and linoleum that needed to be removed on our lower level and instructed us to have the tiles tested because they were likely asbestos tiles given the age of the house and the size and appearance of the tiles.  I'm glad we did!  The tiles were definitely asbestos and needed to be removed by a certified asbestos abatement company.

Rudy and his crew customized the hardwood floor stain for us.  When it was first applied, my husband and I thought we had made a huge mistake.  The floors looked pink!  However, Rudy happily, and without an extra expense, worked with us to tweak the stain, and his crew reapplied it that same day.  The final product was amazing!  Everyone who comes over compliments the dark color of our floors, and I have already passed along Rudy's name to many of my friends and colleagues.  We enjoyed working with Rudy so much that we are now considering hiring him to paint our whole house.

Our old row house had a number of different types of moulding and door and window frames due to additions and repairs over the years in addition to some non functional transom windows on 2 doors which were either installed crookedly or had become very crooked over time. We wanted to replace all of this with trim that matched some of the original trim of the house to make the house look more polished without losing some of the best period details. We also had a funky closet in our spare bedroom that we could not really get to parts of because of it's really odd shape.

Additionally, though we had the plaster in most of the house repaired shortly after we purchased the house, it was not the best job, so several walls and ceilings need additional repairs in addition to painting. We had worked with Rudy for.a couple of other jobs and we're very pleased with the results and chose his team for this work because of their creativity and quality work. Rudy's team did a great job on our challenging project.

 In particular:
- they found great custom moulding that was consistent with the original period moulding, a really nice match!
- they had great suggestions for how to make the moulding a on two adjacent bedroom doors land a closet look even better than I imagined they could.
- they also had a suggestion for adding a recessed shelving unit to our bedroom wall to help us deal with the funky shaped closet.
- the wall repairs they made have held up for over a year....far better than the original contractor's work.

The finished rooms look great, and we could not be more pleased. We highly recommend Kustom Floors and continue to trust them with our ongoing renovations.

It was a great experience working with Rudy and his crew. We could have saved some money going with other contractors, but you get what you pay for. The day of the estimate, Rudy arrived on time, listened to us carefully, gave his honest opinion about what he would be able to do to set correct expectations. And I must say the work exceeded our expectations. We needed some minor electrical work and it would have been a challenge for me to coordinate the electrical work with everything else. Rudy suggested someone and quoted me a price for the work. I had taken estimates from other electricians before and Rudy's estimate for the electrical work was the best.

The new hardwood floors look fantastic. It matches the old hardwood we had in the living room. Rudy pointed out to me that the installation of the old hardwood floor was not done very well and I can easily see that when I compare it with the floors Rudy's men installed, and I am no expert. They matched the crown molding we had in the kitchen cabinets with the rest of the dining and living room and it looks beautiful. They took full care of the existing hardwood floors while working in my living room, covering it with hard plywood (not sure) sheets and there was no damage. 

The interior painting was done very well and we couldn't be happier about the walls. They met the timeline they estimated for the work and there were no surprises. During the process, I made requests for a couple of very minor fixes and Rudy agreed to those at no additional cost. The crew was professional. We were not at the house when they worked, but I visited the house from time to time. They were well mannered and they did an excellent job of cleaning after themselves. Also, throughout the process, communication with Rudy was excellent. I will use them in future and recommend them to others as well.

It went great.  Rudy is very professional and really knows what he's doing.  He was also great about communicating with me and telling me what was going on.  The crew showed up when they were supposed to  and were careful about everything, from moving the furniture to making sure the floors looked perfect.  Could not tell where parts of the floor had been replaced.

Rudy was excellent with communication.  He came out and spent time going over options, pointing out areas that had some water damage and uneven spacing in the floors.  We were on a bit of a budget, and Rudy did his best to come up with cost saving alternatives, such as sanding the existing railings, instead of replacing.  Their price was a bit more than the "cheap" guys in town for the staining alone, but it is because they use a higher quality professional grade finish on the floor - Bona Professional, and they really take the effort to make sure everything looks perfect.  On top of that, the other guys can't sand the hand rails, and were recommending that we replace them, which would have ended up costing more overall.  

The workers showed up on time, and make sure to leave the home clean each day, and even swept the garage clean before departure.  I would highly recommend you consult with them, and during your initial visit with Rudy, you will clearly see the difference, and the attention to detail their entire crew takes. The floors look amazing, I can't actually believe they are the same floors, take a look at the before and after photos.  The floors went from a yellowish very shiny with very little grain color to an awesome truly custom look.  On-top of it we were going to have to replace the carpet on the stars anyways, so it made sense to go ahead and made the stairs wood also.  The home looks totally different, and was money well spent!

Rudy and his crew, led by Elgar, were fantastic. They worked with me every step of the way, accommodated me on timing when I brought in my own plumber and my own electrician, and did a lot of things that most contractors would've insisted on a "change order" and extra charges for.
The basement was converted from raw unfinished concrete to a finished space with 2 bedrooms and 1 full bathroom. Before KK could get started, I had my plumber re-route the hot water radiator piping and all of the house's water supply and drain pipes as high as possible up into the joist spaces, to create as much ceiling height as possible. My electrician did the same for the wiring.

 KK did the framing in 3 days, which was delicate work in some areas because the concrete outer walls curved slightly as they got close to the floor, so they had to be creative to get full use of the space. After framing, my plumber and electrician did their work. When they were done, KK came back and completed the drywall, painting, tiling, and carpet. This ended up being a complex job, and KK got it all done on schedule and on budget. I'd use them again in a heartbeat.

I chose Kustom Floors originally because of the excellent reviews they received. I also called and made appointments with another company on Angie's List and called a nationally known company. The nationally known company would not give me a date and time for my appointment until the night before. I canceled my request. The other company was professional and accommodating on the phone. However they arrived late, seemed indifferent and did not appear to be interested in staying more than 10 minutes.
I also called Kustom Floors and spoke with Rudy. Ruby mentioned he had a game on Sunday in my area. He would be happy to stop by my condo afterwards. Rudy arrived on time, was professional and customer-service oriented. He first looked at my floors and noticed they were crooked. Next he took out a string and demonstrated how the floors were not straight and the patterns were not staggered in some areas. Rudy said if I selected him to contract the job, he would correct all of these flaws. Rudy spent about 45 minutes in my condo, asked me questions and actively listened to my concerns. Rudy went the extra mile by meeting me at my place of employment to drop off wood samples. I immediately knew he was the one for the job. Rudy takes pride in his work. I trusted him.
My story gets more interesting. Rudy ordered the flooring. It was delivered early so that the wood could get use to the temperature. The following week Rudy and his crew arrived on time and ready to work. Unfortunately once they started pulling up the floors in the back bedrooms, mold was discovered. All work had to stop and the mold remediation company was called. To make a long story short, it took 4 ½  months before Rudy, his crew and I could re-enter. During that time, Rudy called me periodically to get updated. Once they were allowed to return to my condo and lay the hardwood floors, Rudy and his crew finished the job in a matter of days. They even worked on a Saturday. My floors are beautiful.
We are good at telling contractor horror stories. This is a great story from beginning to end. I would highly recommend Kustom Floors. You will get nothing but the best from Rudy and his crew!

I set up an appointment for an estimate and Rudy arrived and provided a thorough estimate for everything we needed to get the job done.. Within a very short time Rudy and his crew were ready to start the job. They arrived on time everyday and got right to work. Very organized, polite and professional.  They did an excellent job. The new railings, balusters and newel posts are beautiful.
And the stairs look fantastic too. Beautiful job matching the stain on the stairs to our existing hardwood floors!!  It was truly a pleasure working with Rudy and his crew. I would highly recommend them. In fact I plan on having them do more work for me in the future!!!

These guys are the real deal. I got eight quotes from top-rated providers on Angie's List. Rudy's quote wasn't the lowest, but it was on the lower end, and the reason it wasn't the lowest is because of the exceptional quality of the work. I selected Rudy because he brought an ipad with pictures from recent similar jobs, was very knowledgable about the type of existing wood floors in the home, and had the best plan to install new floors to match and refinish everything for the "look" we wanted. He also recommended products that were exactly what we were looking for - e.g., the Rubio Monocoat finish which is a zero VOC, "green" product, which has a beautiful matte finish that draws out the natural beauty of the wood unlike many "synthetic" looking bland finishes.
Rudy correctly identified our existing floors as red oak common #1, and recommended the same wood for the new installation, unlike other contractors who recommended select. That's important because the inconsistencies in the common #1 give it a unique look, and select would not have tied in to the existing floor at all. The crew took out some existing wood flooring that didn't match, and brilliantly toothed-in the new to the existing. You cannot tell at all now what is new and what is existing - it is all completely uniform and beautiful.
Rudy's crew installed new stair treads and risers with some custom carpentry work alongside the stairs for new trim and molding. They also patched some drywall to cover up where I had demolished the old staircase walls, and repainted to match without messing up the ceiling - which we did not want to have to repaint since we didn't have any paint to match. It all looks superb and came out exactly as we described our requirements to Rudy.
Rudy's crew is able to do interior painting, so we had all of our interior doors and trim painted during the same job, which minimized headache for us and kept cost down since they didn't have to be so careful about protecting the floor that was about to be refinished and the carpet that was being removed. They did a great job on the painting and made sure the white exactly matched other white surfaces in the house.
The crew arrived on the day we agreed and finished on the day that was estimated at the start. Each night the crew tidied as best they could. They arrived around 8am every day and were often still at the house when I came home after 5:30pm. They did a decent job of cleaning up the house after the work was complete, and although there was still dust on some surfaces, it was less than I expected and they had obviously done quite a lot of wiping down and vacuuming at the end of the job. They even repaired some previously-damaged baseboard molding that wasn't in the scope and we weren't expecting them to take care of  - a nice touch that shows they really care that the whole package looks great at the end of the job.

Rudy and his team did a very nice job for us.  Their price was better than others and they were always professional and knew what they were doing.  My only issue was that they gave an initial quote, including refinishing the stairs and banister, only to start and realize that the stairs were a composite wood and could not be refinished.  So we were left with little choice but to replace the treads on the stairs with actual wood, which added significant cost.  That was frustrating because they should have noticed that issue up front.  In doing the work on the stairs they beat up the baseboards a bit, which was understandable given what they had to do, and at no cost to me sent someone back out to get them into better shape for our painter, which was appreciated.  The actual quality of the staining and woodwork seems to be very good quality - even stain application and no noticeable issues.  Overall I was very pleased and would recommend Rudy and his team.

Top notch, I will never use anyone else! Rudy and his colleagues at Kustom Floors provide impeccable work, extremely detail oriented, never cut corners, and take care of your home during the work. We used Kustom Floors twice- first a year ago we had 3/4 inch red oak walls installed floor to ceiling to create a cove off our kitchen. The second time was over the last month, they replaced our entire 1st floor flooring. It's amazing the difference you can see between floors installed by Kustom versus others. We are in our 3rd home and have worked with many home repair/ construction/flooring crews over the years. We have never found a group that provides quality service at the level of Kustom Floors. With most others, you need to keep close watch over their work along the way to catch all of the shoddy corner cutting. Not with this group. You can literally leave them on their own without any oversight and feel very confident that you're going to get excellent work.

I am very pleased with the work of Kustom Floors. I enclosed a porch and wanted to install an oak hardwood floor to match the existing one of an old colonial house. It was a smooth process from the estimate appointment with Rudy Arredondo to the finished job with his installation crew. Rudy was willing to accommodate to my 'architects demands' and the installation crew came on time, cleaned after themselves and did a beautiful job.

We have nothing but excellent things to say about Kustom Floors.  Rudy was punctual and professional in providing an estimate.  Rudy and Katherine were able to schedule the work and finalize a contract very quickly, which was important because we have an infant who was starting to crawl on our existing, dangerous floors.  As for the work itself, Will (and crew) worked on one room one week, and then Jimmy (and crew) worked on the rest of our house the next week.  They did an amazing job all around: the floors look fantastic, they minimized dust as best they could, and Rudy even came out ASAP to fix one minor issue we had afterwards.  Their price may be steeper than most, but we think it was worth it given their response.

This is the fourth job Rudy and his team have done for me and may have been the most impressive. They installed 4 custom, horizontal five-panel, solid oak doors and 9 door casings.  The doors were stained to be an exact match to my floors.  They also installed four vintage, glass doorknob sets into the doors, all of which were salvaged and therefore irregular, and they look amazing.  The doors and casings are definitely a wow factor in the house now.  Finally, they went the extra mile in touching up the paint in one of the rooms.  You can throw any challenge at these guys and it always comes out looking even better than you expected.  Recommend across the board.

We had new red oak hardwood put in two rooms that were an addition to our house in the 70s. We wanted the addition floors to match the wood in the rest of the house. We are all on one level, so it makes a huge difference with consistency. In our main hallway from the front to the back of the house there was some DIY stuff done sometime before we purchased the house, which was being covered by a rug; it was unsightly, patched and plugged with some sort of grey putty and another type of wood. When Rudy came to do the estimate he said he could fix that easily and also pointed out a few other imperfections I hadn't ever paid much attention to, so we decided to have them fix those items as well and we are very pleased with the results. The new floors look amazing and we couldn't be happier. Rudy was very communicative and he and his guys were always on time and completed the project in the amount of time promised. Excellent quality work and I will definitely recommend Kustom Floors to others.

Rudy and his team are exceptional! We cannot speak highly enough of them.
We did a pretty thorough job of getting quotes, and while Rudy's was slightly higher, he spent a great deal of time going over options and explaining the process. This level of attention and detail won us over and was certainly worth paying for in the end. 
One thing about Rudy is he wants to work with your budget. He suggested we buy our wood so that we didn't have to pay his markup, which we did. To save us money he also suggested ways for us to redo our banister and even where to get the supplies. It was a very consultative experience from start to finish. In fact, in the middle of the work, they noticed our three stairs after our foyer were not built properly and offered to rebuild them so they were safe and looked good. That ended up being $500, but since they were so uneven after removing the carpet, it was definitely a must. And then our fridge didn't fit back in over the wood, so they shaved down our cabinet for free. Little stuff like that is bound to happen, so having a team like Kustom is worth it because you can trust them to do it right.
Each team member was friendly, they were on time, and did excellent work. They were all very flexible with scheduling too!
The floors are so gorgeous it's a shame we have to put furniture on them. We are excited to enjoy them for years to come.
Bottom line: HIRE THESE GUYS, you won't regret it!

Rudy and Kustom Flooring were very responsive and did a fantastic job.  They deserve an A++++++++ rating.  The floor stain brought out the highlights of the wood. 

The work was done so nicely and he did work around other contractors working in another part the house.  The flooring crew was knowledgeable and proud of the work they performed.

I know I will hire Rudy and Kustom Flooring again.

Much has already been said about Rudy's company, Kustom Floors, LLC.  Here are several things from a slightly different perspective that you might find helpful.
The project.  Many of the reviewers here have used Kustom Floors to refinish old or existing floors.  We used Rudy's company to install new hardwood maple floors throughout the main level of our house -- the kitchen, dining room and living room -- and solid maple tread and riser planks that Rudy's company stained and finished for the stairs leading to the upper level of the house. 
The cost.  We live in a modest Gaithersburg townhouse.  Of the 5 companies we received cost estimates from, Kustom Floors was competitive and reasonable.  So if you're concerned that what you have been reading sounds great but might be too expensive, give Rudy a call and get an estimate anyway.  You might be surprised.  That being said, it's helpful to keep in mind that hardwood floors are expensive to begin with, and you need a quality company that you can trust to install them correctly and get the details right.  It doesn't make any sense to buy expensive hardwood floors and then scour the internet looking for the cheapest installer in town.  You get what you pay for.  And by the way, even though we're sure Rudy works with customers who have budgets much larger than ours, we never felt like we received less than the very best his company has to offer.  The value and the customer service are outstanding.
The craftsmanship.  Don't think of Rudy and his company as installers.  It would probably be more appropriate to consider them craftsmen.  Because that's really what they are.  There are probably dozens of installers in the area who can install a basic hardwood floor.  But no project is perfect, and every house has quirks and eccentricities that complicate the job -- and the attention to detail in addressing the subtleties, complications, and unforeseen issues is what makes the difference between an installer and a craftsman.  Rudy and his brother Jimmy and the rest of the Kustom Floors team have the knowledge, the experience and the confidence to address the details of a project in a way that makes the finished installation look like the work of craftsmen.  We were incredibly impressed by their creativity and ingenuity; the hardwood flooring in our home looks like a work of art, and we are leaving area carpets off the floors so that we can fully enjoy the artistry of their work.
The integrity.  Just when you might be tempted to think that there aren't any companies still around that operate with integrity, you will be reassured in discovering Kustom Floors.  Rudy conducts his business operations with old-fashioned professional integrity.  The job isn't finished until it's done right and the customer is satisfied.  You can trust Rudy and his brother Jimmy to do the right thing.  And it's hard to put a price tag on that.  We were very pleased with every aspect of our hardwood floor project, and give the strongest recommendation possible to Rudy Arredondo and Kustom Floors, LLC.

If we could give A+++++, we would!  We had been thinking about refinishing our floors for so long but couldn't bear the thought of the dust, and then finally we just decided to go for it.  We called in several contractors recommended on Angie's List, but Rudy just stood out with his knowledge, his suggestions, the way he broke down the estimate, and his patience with my endless questions.  As other reviewers have said, this wasn't the lowest estimate, but we believed we would get a job well done.......and we did!!
Jimmy and his crew came each day on time and ready to work, and they couldn't have been more professional and courteous. The men took extreme care to seal off the open areas above and around the great room, which was no easy task because we have such a wide open floor plan.  They also took the extra care to put painter's tape around the doors to adjoining rooms as well, so that minimal dust got into the rooms.  That was amazing because we lived between our first floor master bedroom (right next to the great room) and our lower level during the three days of work, and we expected the dust to be overwhelming, but at no point did that ever happen.  At the end of each day, we poked our heads into the great room to check out the progress, and we always smiled at what we saw.  Everything happened on time and exactly as they had described, AND the house was left positively spotless at the end of each work day.  Not only that, but the men were "staging" in our garage, which was also swept clean and equipment was neatly put aside so that the garage was usable every night.  We were so impressed!!
I want to give a special mention to Jimmy, who sanded six different areas to show me different stain colors.  None of the stains quite met what I wanted, but I picked one and then called him an hour later to ask if it was possible to mix a little of one into the other.  He was completely agreeable, saying he wanted me to be totally happy with the end result, so I came back to the house a little later in the day, and he stained three more areas with various combinations until we had the perfect one.  He was always so patient, pleasant and kind, which was our experience with the entire group at Kustom Floors - from beginning to end!
As a last minute change, we decided  that while we moved our furniture out, we really couldn't move it back in without sliding it across our brand new floors.  Without missing a beat, Rudy arranged to have it moved back into place for us.  They came with small pads to place on the legs of each and every piece of furniture (which will prevent scratching in the future as we move it to clean), and they still lifted every piece across the floor rather than sliding anything into place.  
In a nutshell -   The customer service was outstanding, our house was left impeccable each day, the dust was even more minimal than they assured us it would be, and we love, love, LOVE the floors!  You cannot go wrong working with this company, and we will definitely use them again in the future.  We have already given their names to two of our friends, and we will tell anyone who will listen what a fantastic experience this was for us!!

This company is great! We had multiple companies come review our hardwood floor refinishing needs and while these guys were not the cheapest, these guys were the best. Rudy provided a clear explanation of what was needed, he was very knowledgeable about our wood floors and taught us enough to know what questions to ask from the other competing hardwood floor refinishers. In addition to refinishing our floors, and repairing the stairs, we also needed most of our house repainted after having rented it for the past year. Rudy and Edgar orchestrated the different crews to make sure the work was done efficiently, with a minimum of mess (there is always some when you have refinishing done!), and on schedule. They did a great job of repairing - where necessary - our plaster walls and filling holes so that the rooms look fantastic! We will definitely call them for future jobs.
