We chose Kustom Floors to remodel to our first floor in our ca. 1889 DC townhouse. After vetting five total contractors for the job, Kustom Floors was chosen due to the professionalism, vision, and quality of work that the company represents. When we moved into our home, none of the original character was left intact, it had probably been remodeled about twenty years before, and therefore was out of date. We had a vision of expanding the kitchen and replacing all cabinetry with a clean, modern design. We also wanted to rethink and improve the flow and usability of the dining and living areas. Our biggest concern with working with any contractor was that we weren't sure if they could follow such a modern design. Futhermore, we weren't sure that it could be done at a reasonable price. Rudy (owner/proprietor) came out to consult with us several times to make sure that he and his team could fully understand our design vision. It was clear from the beginning of working with him and his team that they were very capable of creating such a modern space with amazing attention to detail. Some of those elements included drywall returns for doors (no trim, very modern and seamless framing) , installing frameless cabinetry that required perfect alignment to the wall and to adjacent cabinet boxes, and plaster/drywall work that helped to conceal the errors of previous remodels. Their responsiveness, professionalism, and extraordinary attention to detail are just a few of the many hallmarks that really shined through during our experience working with them. Rudy and his entire team transformed our first floor with such spectacular results that we're actually having the team come back for additional renovations to our second floor. I have no hesitation in highly recommending Kustom Floors and have even referred our neighbors and several friends to them. Rudy and team truly want to do well by their clients and will do whatever it takes to make your space beautiful. They have the expertise to provide spot-on recommendations regarding design esthetic and actual production of the work. That makes them a 'best choice' in my book.

Can't say enough wonderful things about this team. I have never worked with contractors at this level before and was really nervous. These guys made the experience absolutely delightful. Rudy first visited the house to provide an estimate and his enthusiasm was contagious. Of all the people I got estimates from, he was the only one who really seemed to CARE about the final product -- at times I almost felt like he was more excited about the potential of this remodel than I was! He made some great suggestions on how to give the work a really nice polished look -- he was right about all of them. His team completed an incredible amount of work in just five days. They were seriously professional -- most of the time I was at home during their work day (I work from home) and they were really respectful of my space and did everything they could to limit dust and other inconveniences. They completed everything really quickly and didn't do that thing I was warned of by friends who've used contractors in the past where they leave final touches uncompleted for weeks and weeks. These guys closed out the job, got every detail perfectly correct (even my somewhat odd and detailed paint color requests), did a really thorough clean up job, and left. They were so detailed and thorough that, among other things, they went out and bought a couple door stops so that the doorknobs on my closets wouldn't put a dent back in the wall where they'd just repaired the dent that had been there for years. Rudy called to check in every night of the five day job. I mean...these people CARE about their work. I'm having them come back to do the downstairs, now. I would recommend this team to ANYONE. Please, please use them!!

In all, the Kustom Floors team did an excellent job that yielded beautiful floors and probably saved us greater expense in repairs down the road. We are very pleased and would highly recommend Kustom Floors LLC to homeowners seeking to beautify their hardwood floors. When examining the floors to provide the estimate, Rudy was more thorough than the other company reps who visited, alerting us to some potential problems and explaining what his team would do. The original finish from the 1970s was oil-based, and we wanted a newer-looking, more environmentally-friendly finish. After sanding, they used a low-VOC water-based finish from Bona. The quoted cost was higher than the competition and it went up from there as explained below, but we are very happy with the responsiveness to our specific needs and with the professional job done. Superior service and materials cost more, because, well, they are better than competition. What started as a very straightforward refinish job in a reasonably well-maintained residence became more complex when the team discovered some moisture in the subflooring under a few tiles we wished to replace. Those tiles did not match the rest of the flooring very well, and we suspected there was something wrong, as indeed there was. Rudy was careful to arrange for the repairs to be done right and advised of the extra cost and time required (including curing time).

Kustom Floors installed a hardwood floor in our kitchen during the summer of 2014. The workmanship was excellent. Kustom Floors was very courteous at all times and provided us with an expedient service that adhered to the prearranged schedule. We were particularly impressed with the company?s policy to be available to address any issues that may arise regarding their work even after the job is complete. Needless to say, we were very pleased not only with the work performed but with the very high level of responsibility conveyed by this company. I would recommend Kustom Floors to anyone who is considering installing a new wood floor where the quality of material, workmanship and company integrity are important factors.

I had several estimates on this job. Kustom Floors was not the least expensive, but it was clear from the start that their quality was far superior. We were replacing carpeting with flooring to match the rest of the house. Rudy (the owner) carefully inspected the flooring in the hallway, and checked underneath the carpet to inspect the subflooring. He reviewed all of the finish options and their pros/cons. The best part was how carefully they matched they matched the stain so the new flooring blends with the old in the hallway. They made several trips with different stain test areas to get it just right. The whole installation went smoothly, was on time, and excellent clean up. I was really impressed with the attention to detail.

it went really well. kustom floors came through in a pinch for me because my previous hardwood installers were tied up. i gave Rudy a call, and he came out to give an estimate the same day, and then began working the next day. the entire project was wrapped up in 2 days. really really quality work.

This is our second time to ask Kustom Floors to do work in our home. We were so happy with the work that Kustom Floors did in refinishing our hardwood floors that we asked them to do this additional work on the house. The Carpentry/Drywall/painting crew, led by Edgar, was great. They arrived on time, took time to prep the work areas to prevent damage, worked hard and left the work areas neat. I am especially pleased with the work that they did on our crawlspace entrance. A number of years ago, I had another company install a specialty door and a window well that did not hold up well to use over the years. Now, the entryway has a tight-fitting secure door and a very large galvanized steel covered window well that allows for very easy access to the crawlspace.

We moved into our home ?as is? in 1994. While I considered having the interior painted and the floor sanded then, my work responsibilities grew and the years passed quickly. By 2014, the interior of the house looked drab, gray, needing to be "spiffed up." This was the year to move on this project. I wanted the entire interior of the house painted (two floors) and all of the hardwood floors sanded (main floor, including closets). Using Angie?s List, I developed a list of several painting and sanding companies which I contacted and got estimates. But I had to act as my own contractor, and I was told, we should move out while all this work was being done. While looking at sites on companies specializing in finishing hardwood floors, I came upon the name of Kustom Floors LLC and called Rudy, the head person there. He told me his company was listed in Angie?s List. Indeed it was, but I had missed it. And they do not advertise. They get their customers by word of mouth. He came to the house to talk to me about what they could do with the floors. In that conversation, I learned that they also do interior and exterior painting, and Rudy has a sister-in-law (Lia) who, with her team, does a whole-house cleaning after the painting and sanding is completed. He could recommend a moving company they work with to help in the packing of household goods. So Rudy could be the contractor. I asked for three references for his work; I wanted names of people who had both painting and sanding done and I wanted to visit their homes to look at the work myself. This was arranged and work in the houses I saw was superb. On one of these visits, Rudy?s customer told me that he had hired a different painting company, and the work was so bad that he ended up bringing Rudy?s team in. He said: ?hire them; they are more expensive but are worth it.? After this, I added more to what I wanted Rudy?s team to do: replace the ceiling tiles in a kitchen, add shoe molding to the main floor, remove wall paper. And indeed they are worth it. We did move out while all the work was being done over 3.5 weeks, using the recommended moving company whose team packed some of our belongings (on the main floor only) and stored them in our sun porch and in a POD we rented. We have hundreds of books, which were the major items needing to be packed up. During the first week of the painting, I visited the house daily to watch the progress of the painting team. They were very careful and proud of their work. When we had an invitation to stay at a friend?s house north of NYC, we accepted and I felt very comfortable leaving the house under Kustom Floor LLC?s care. Rudy was always accessible by phone and text message and kept me updated on the progress in the house. We were back in town in week 3 to pick the stain for the floors and have a sample done on the floor to be sure we liked it. Rudy?s brother, Jimmy, did the sanding with his team and applied a commercial water based finish on the floors. We paid extra for the dust containment system (although Rudy said this was not necessary since his sister-in-law would take care of any clean up). The floors and walls look beautiful; much of the dust was controlled; Lia and her team cleaned up every bit of dust and dirt. The house was in the hands of responsible and reliable people; I was reasonably calm throughout project and I wake up every morning saying to my family, ?Have I told you how much I love the look of this house? since Rudy and his team completed the project. I am picky, so I had a two page punch out list. The lead painter and his colleague spent a day addressing everything on that list. The only thing I had to do when the team completed their work was sweep the sun porch floor once the furniture and boxes of books were removed.

From the outset, Rudy was very upfront about his recommendations for the floor work. He was very responsive to my questions regarding the floor prep process and the Monocoat product. The floors have undergone a wonderful transformation and look like new floors without bevels and a beautiful mahogany matte finish that highlights the natural beauty of the wood grain. The repair work and new flush transitions and vent covers are beautiful. We hesitated at first to go with all of Rudy's recommendations because of cost considerations, but ended up following all of his recommendations. We are very very glad we did as the floors look absolutely wonderful. Rudy's brother Jimmy is a skilled floor craftsman who remains on site until the job is finished. We would not hesitate to use this company again and to recommend them to our friends.

Like clockwork. In and out in 3 days. They had the basement ready for carpet and occupancy lickety split.

Overall, Kustom Floors was a pleasure to work with and my wife and I couldn't be happier with the finished product. They were punctual, professional and worked with us to get exactly what we wanted. My wife and I purchased a new home and, prior to moving in, we realized that the hardwood floors were defective throughout (flaking and peeling in every room). We were scheduled to move in one week and Rudy and his team were able to start immediately. Rudy first explained what was wrong with the floors and what needed to be done to repair the floors appropriately. Unlike other providers we spoke with, Rudy went into great detail regarding what needed to be done and why. Rudy also explained the various stain and finish options and the different costs associated with each option. Rudy and his team worked tirelessly (including over Labor Day weekend) to ensure that the floors were finished so that my family and I could move into the house after Labor Day. The floors look amazing and we couldn't be happier.

The job went well. Timely, clean and professional. Involved pulling original rug, stair repair, sanding, staining and finish coating. The service provider, Rudy, was very attentive to my desires and requests for the project and made me very happy with the results. He is doing his job very well by listening to the customer and meeting their expectations.

Everything went well. Rudy and his team were easy to work with. He explained everything to me ahead of time and worked within our schedule (we wanted everything done rather quickly before we moved in). The new floors and wall look great and they cleaned up each day when they were finished.

Had an appointment set up and he did not show. Called and left a message. He called back without listening to my message and didn't remember me or my job. He finally went over to give me a price and haven't heard back from him. All the other contractors for this job proposal came back within 24 hours. The fact that he didn't keep my appointment makes it very hard for me to do work with that contractor. I am a professional and demand it back on my team. He did apologize which was nice.

The work was expertly done, on time and with an impressive attention to detail. Since my wife and I are both in sales and 'live-and-breathe' customer services, we're not easily impressed and can smell a bad apple from miles away. We're pleased to report Rudy and his team are worthy of your confidence and business. Because 'customer service' is his mantra too.

My client, the homeowner, and I are extremely impressed with the work by Kustom Floors. The floors look amazing! I started the process by getting bids from three flooring companies, including one old established company. Kustom Floors gave me detailed information during the bidding process about the existing hardwood floors (including how two different types of woods were used during an earlier renovation and the best way to handle this) that the other flooring companies didn't mention. The three estimates were roughly the same, but I noticed that the large company hadn't included key elements, like one of the staircases and they didn't return my email or call as to whether this was in fact included but not mentioned. The sales rep for that company was impressive but ultimately, I realized that the work was going to be subcontracted out from the large company. Kustom Floors did the projects in steps to coordinate with the homeowners' travel schedules. I checked in on the project daily and the workers were polite and professional. They worked extra hours on the weekend to complete the project so that it would be dry when the homeowners arrived home. The result: WOW--really beautiful and meticulous work.

Rudy and his crew did a beautiful job installing hardwood floors on the second floor of the home (removing existing carpeting) and worked around the travel schedules of my client, the homeowner. We opted for pre-finished wood on this floor (primarily to avoid the smell factor from new wood being stained and finished). We went through lots of samples to find the color the homeowner wanted, and it's beautiful! It was a pleasure to work with the polite and meticulous workers at Kustom Floors, and the homeowner is very happy.

Rudi and all his various crews were very professional. They arrived when scheduled and the entire job took only a couple of weeks. The quality of their work was excellent. Most of the flooring companies we talked to did not do handrails, but Kustom had the skills to make this job complete. Their carpet installation crew did an outstanding job: no seams were visible and the patterned carpet was perfectly aligned to be perpendicular to the room. They were great about plugging in appliances before returning the heavy furniture pieces. Our stairway is now the beautiful focal point when you enter our home!

We just purchased a new house and wanted to have our hardwood stairs refinished before we moved in. We called half a dozen companies for estimates; only 3 actually responded and showed up to give us quotes, including Kustom Floors. Rudy himself came out for an initial estimate about 2 weeks before we planned to have the work done. He walked the area with us and described how his team could pull up and dispose of the carpet runner that was on the stairs, refinish the stairs and banisters, and paint the risers, just as we requested. (Note: none of the other companies we called said that they could refinish the treads AND paint the risers). Rudy also took a look at the dining room floor and pointed out that the finish was old and yellow, water-stained and scratched deeply all around the edges, and suggested that we might consider refinishing it, as well. He suggested installing a room separator piece between the dining room and hallway, and a bullnose on the top stair to the stairway leading into the finished basement, too. Of the 3 representatives who actually responded to our request for quotes, Rudy clearly was far and away the most knowledgeable and professional, and we felt most comfortable trusting this fairly complex project to his team. Rudy's team, led by his brother, arrived a little late on the day they were to start the work, but called to let us know that they were stuck in traffic, which we appreciated. When they arrived, they walked through the items we wanted to have done one more time with us. We gave them a spare key so that they could come and go over the course of the week to do the work, since we weren't living in the house yet. I can't speak to how they would deal with furniture in rooms, because we hadn't moved our furniture in yet. But they managed to minimize the amount of wood dust that made it into other rooms in the house, and cleaned everything up neatly after themselves when they were finished, so I imagine that they would take equal care with furniture. The project took 4 full days to complete. There was no chemically odor or need to air out the house when they were done. The newly-refinished floors and stairs now match our living room floor (finished by a previous owner), which is exactly what we'd hoped for, and the transition and bullnose pieces fit in seamlessly. The price ultimately was a bit higher than perhaps it could have been, but given the intricacy of the work on the bannisters, as well as the finishing + painting, the quality of the finished work, and the professionalism of the team as well as Rudy himself, it was definitely worth it. Overall, we are very happy with our now-elegant stairs and dining room floor!

Rudy and his crew were fantastic! We started a kitchen renovation at the end of April 2014 and we contracted Rudy to install hardwoods throughout the 1st floor, stairs, & upstairs hallway. My contractor took a bit of time to get things going, but Rudy was great and worked with my schedule to complete an awesome first floor transformation. His crew worked extremely hard and fast to get the floors and stairs completed as quickly as possible. We are very pleased with the quality of work and would use Kustom Floors again in a heartbeat. We paid a fair price for a quality product and installation and we are very satisfied with the outcome.

Using Kustom Floors was a great experience. I got 3 estimates for a client and was most impressed with Rudy's knowledge and explanations of what was going on with the existing hardwood flooring and seeing pics of his previous work. Rudy worked to get just the right color stain for the client who wanted something out of the ordinary. Everything went very smoothly with delivery, moving and replacing furniture and installation. The floors look great. We have hired Kustom Floors to do two other floors (and are getting an estimate to replace the railing and balusters) in this home.

Rudy was very professional and responded promptly for the initial estimate and scheduling work. The employees were prompt and courteous. The only issue we had was a material shortage that might have been a supplier error. Rudy was prompt in getting the material and scheduling to finish the job within 2 days of original installation. The floor looks good and I am pleased with the workmanship.
