We hired JGKB to update our kitchen.  This was in conjunction with another remodeling project which they were not a part of.  We made clear that we were not interested in gutting the kitchen, but were instead looking to update the space, replacing most of the appliances and the island, but keeping the majority of the cabinets.  ( To be honest, we weren't sure how they would react to the project because we were very strict about staying on budget.)  After discussing some initial ideas with our designer Lauren, she came back with a concept that was not what we had originally considered but, to be honest, was tremendously better than what we had in mind.  She came up with things that we had never thought of and the new items meld seamlessly into the old, basically giving us a "new" kitchen at less than the cost and much less hassle than a total redo.  The finishes and appliances were high-end, so I won't pretend the cost was low, but it was reasonable for what we got. We are very happy with it and we get nothing but great feedback. It looks like a brand new kitchen.  Also, the designer stayed involved throughout the process and afterwards.  We also hired them to tack on a pantry redo later, which involved building custom cabinets, etc.  Also completely happy with that project.  Would definitely use them again.

After putting down a healthy deposit and paying fully along the way, Carolyn Thomas forgot to design a light switch to enter the hall bath, forcing us to either install it about 4' into the room, or outside the door in the hall.  She was difficult, unresponsive and delayed the job for three weeks while we disagreed over such a major error.  At that point, tile and cabinets were installed, and we were expecting a baby, so it was simply an issue of making it work and us happy without gutting the job and wasting another 3 months.  Jennifer Gilmer wasn't an effective peacemaker, and should have supervised the job better.  We founder their prices to be marked up excessively.  For example, a curved shower rod that we found ourselve, and cost $40 at Home Depot was billed to us for $120 by Jennifer Gilmer Kitchen and Bath.  We agreed to order fixtures through them and they take excessive advantage of that.

Carolyn was fun to work with, very creative and really knows her stuff. I had a bunch of ideas (and a stack of bathroom design books) going into our first meeting and ended up with something very different from my original ideas - and I ended up with a bathroom I absolutely love, down to the towel bars. We ended up spending a bit more than our original budget, but it was worth it to get the high quality products and design work.

Jennifer created an amazing kitchen in my Georgetown home. The space, while not small, was extremely challenging. I had already worked with several architects and interior designers who simply could not or would not address my requirements or deal effectively with the problematic nuances of my older home. I had all but given up until I met Jennifer. In addition to being a brilliant designer, she was extremely patient, thoughtful, and cognizant of my "wish list" and "dos and don't" through the entire process. While I wanted, and was willing to pay for, a high-end kitchen, nonetheless I didn't have bottomless pockets, so when an idea looked as if it was going to be expensive she informed me immediately so I could decide whether or not to proceed with that particular concept. Jennifer was always a calm and reassuring presence throughout this process and she was always available for communication during the actual construction. I never had to wait for her to respond...she stayed on top of the project until the very end. She truly understands customer service and I look forward to having her do my bathrooms!!
