Now I already sent this in 2 months ago so Angies list could use a little improving
"First I thank you for attempting to reach us by Angies List, if that was your intention. While I would have appreciated more a personal call or at least an email, at least I have your input. I hope you did not intend to harm us but some of the things you wrote are not 100% truthful and I feel the truth is utmost important when we speak to others who deserve nothing less. I hope you will agree with me and if not please contact me so we can at least present the whole truth to the public forum you choose to use. The facts I see are this. Your water heater was under warranty for parts only. There was and is no warranty for labor for diagnosis, repair, freight, or other expenses not specifically covered by A.O. Smith. It is true we are their warranty agent. The work was done Oct. 15th. Diagnosis is difficult sometimes and there are two important factors that govern our ability to diagnose the problem; one to see it happening, and two the customer's story of their understanding of the problem. You were right in insisting and working with hour mechanic until the problem was resolved. We were right and not condemning a part that refused to fail in front of us. But we were also right in listening to you even when the diagnostics did not conclusively condemn a part. While you may feel this mechanic may have been slow to make the repair or unable to see the problem, or label him, (as Angies List limits the label) to "professionalism", your problem was resolved. The flat rate price you were quoted did not change no matter how long it took. In the end are you happy all is fixed or is there something else I need to hear about? We may not always get it right, but we always work with our client to get it right. I am happy we did this right with your insistence. This is why I say the customer's input is most valuable and the customer is ultimately our final inspector. I personally was not there to witness this call, but as a trained service technician of over 40 years, I have been stumped many times when I could not prove or witness the symptom. But I have learned to listen to my clients. Its just more helpful that they realize we are not one mechanic, but a company of many who can assist and help if only we are contacted. To all my clients and potential customers it is important to realize if you feel uncomfortable, feel the message isn't getting across, or the mechanic is wrong, or not up to par, or you just don't like his or her haircut, call us and we will try and work it out with you. In this case we work for two bosses, the manufacturer who built it and is warranting the product and you the customer who bought the product and must pay for non-warranty things. We can only do this with honesty and integrity to both parties. And if for any reason you feel we need to know something to make us better or to make your experience with us better please let us know. Sincerely, H.L. Bent CEO PS: Our normal labor charges are average or slightly low in this area. Price concerned as we all are, we are one of the most heavily regulated businesses and sensitive to fuel costs up and down the supply chain. We are licensed, insured, multiple ways in every county."
At 3:00 pm as promised a Melroy employee arrived, snaked my drain, and in approximately 10 minutes the drain was open and they were gone. A few days later I received a bill for $300.00, I was shocked. They did indeed come and open the drain but $300.00 for a 10 minute service seems awfully expensive. I felt as if they knew that I was in need and took advantage of that fact. I realize that I should have asked for an estimate prior to having them come but I never dreamed that snaking a drain, a 10 minute job, would cost $300.00.
I will say that I have used their services many time in the past and was always happy with the service but his time I felt as if I were gouged. Also, I am not saying that I will never call upon them again but if you use their services be certain to get an upfront good faith estimate.
"01/03/06 THE MEMBER PURCHASED A PELLET STOVE IN OUR STORE. WE SENT HER A $4K CONTRACT FOR HER REVIEW. SHE SIGNED & RETURNED IT WITH DEPOSIT. 12/30/05 BY SIGNATURE SHE AUTHORIZED US TO WORK. SHE CALLED OUR DISPATCHER COMPLAINED OF NO FUEL AVAILABLE, CALLED HIM A LIAR ABOUT FUEL SUPPLIES, AND WANTED TO CANCEL THE CONTRACT. WE DO NOT SELL FUEL. SHE BLAMED MELROY FOR HER INABILITY TO PURCHASE FUEL. OUR DISPATCHER TOLD THE TRUTH. I WANTED HER TO BE MATURE AND POLITE AND ASKED HER IF SHE FELT THAT WAS FAIR; SHE NEVER REPLIED. MELROY FOUND HER ACTIONS TO BE A BREACH OF CONTRACT UNDER LAW. I OFFERED TO CANCEL THE CONTRACT WITH HER RETURNING ALL BUT 25% FEE FOR LABOR AND DELIVERY COSTS AND RETURN OF MELROY PROPERTY. SHE DECLINED. MELROY RETAINS THE RIGHT OF OWNERSHIP UNTIL PAID IN FULL. I TOLD MEN TO STOP WORK. SINCE HER REMARKS AND ACTIONS WERE VOLATILE & ACCUSATORY, WE CALLED THE POLICE TO COME TO THE HOME & ACT AS WITNESS TO SEE WE TREATED HER WELL & NO HARM CAME TO OUR PROPERTY. THIS WAS DONE. SHE KEPT THE STOVE, REFUSED TO MEET WITH ME TO DISCUSS OR RESOLVE THIS. SHE THREATENED TO HARM OUR REPUTATION; BREACHED THE CONTRACT, NEVER BOUGHT A WARRANTY. I FOUND 50 BAGS OF FUEL IN LESS THAN 3 SEC. ON THE INTERNET. I SUGGESTED SHE CONTACT A PELLET STOVE USER WHO WILL SHARE THEIR KNOWLEDGE SHE WISHED TO POSSESS. I FEEL SORRY FOR HER. I FORGAVE HER AND DECIDED NOT TO SUE. I HOPE SHE STOPS SLANDERING PEOPLE. SINCERELY, H LANCE BENT CEO CALL 410-747-0900 FOR FULL STORY."
