The installation went well. The master plumber, Mark, was very professional and explained every step. He even left us his personal cell phone number in case we had any questions later. We also hired Melroy's to put in a diverter for the shower in the bathroom that my husband is remodeling. This time, the estimate was $800 less than Horizon. Again, Melroy's did excellent work!

It is a local company that I had used in the past. And I called them and I knew they are on Angie’s list. They did great works. When they tell me they came, this was one of the reason for I want a debate when the guy did come because I had a special problem in my basement, which I ended up taking care of myself, but there were some little areas that were just up. And they said that was not a problem but they installed without worrying about anything that they thought about ending a good job. The price that they gave me, the fixture would never be more than that, regardless of what the mysterious taking things of part that they sound would never be more than that. There came an issue that they were going to come and did a great job, took several days to install it. We knew it was great and we have used them a long time ago when my furnace are broken down and we used them and I remember that they came out in the middle of the service one more time and, so, they are great company.

we were charged $200 for a trip visit for warranty work.  he replaced a valve/themostat that fixed the problem.   BUT, he first came to our home, checked the temperature and insisted that there was no problem.  he said that the temperature was a bit below normal but acceptable.  when we told him that there was not enough hot water for two showers, he said it is working fine.  at some point he said it COULD be 1 part.  did not check it.  he ran the water for awhile and was still convinced it was fine.  eventually, after telling us repeatedly that everything was fine, he check the ONE part that he mentioned, noted it seemed to be faulty, replaced it, and things worked.  he acknowledged that the party was faulty.
Response from Melroy Plumbing & Heating, Inc.
"First I thank you for attempting to reach us by Angies List, if that was your intention. While I would have appreciated more a personal call or at least an email, at least I have your input. I hope you did not intend to harm us but some of the things you wrote are not 100% truthful and I feel the truth is utmost important when we speak to others who deserve nothing less. I hope you will agree with me and if not please contact me so we can at least present the whole truth to the public forum you choose to use. The facts I see are this. Your water heater was under warranty for parts only. There was and is no warranty for labor for diagnosis, repair, freight, or other expenses not specifically covered by A.O. Smith. It is true we are their warranty agent. The work was done Oct. 15th. Diagnosis is difficult sometimes and there are two important factors that govern our ability to diagnose the problem; one to see it happening, and two the customer's story of their understanding of the problem. You were right in insisting and working with hour mechanic until the problem was resolved. We were right and not condemning a part that refused to fail in front of us. But we were also right in listening to you even when the diagnostics did not conclusively condemn a part. While you may feel this mechanic may have been slow to make the repair or unable to see the problem, or label him, (as Angies List limits the label) to "professionalism", your problem was resolved. The flat rate price you were quoted did not change no matter how long it took. In the end are you happy all is fixed or is there something else I need to hear about? We may not always get it right, but we always work with our client to get it right. I am happy we did this right with your insistence. This is why I say the customer's input is most valuable and the customer is ultimately our final inspector. I personally was not there to witness this call, but as a trained service technician of over 40 years, I have been stumped many times when I could not prove or witness the symptom. But I have learned to listen to my clients. Its just more helpful that they realize we are not one mechanic, but a company of many who can assist and help if only we are contacted. To all my clients and potential customers it is important to realize if you feel uncomfortable, feel the message isn't getting across, or the mechanic is wrong, or not up to par, or you just don't like his or her haircut, call us and we will try and work it out with you. In this case we work for two bosses, the manufacturer who built it and is warranting the product and you the customer who bought the product and must pay for non-warranty things. We can only do this with honesty and integrity to both parties. And if for any reason you feel we need to know something to make us better or to make your experience with us better please let us know. Sincerely, H.L. Bent CEO PS: Our normal labor charges are average or slightly low in this area. Price concerned as we all are, we are one of the most heavily regulated businesses and sensitive to fuel costs up and down the supply chain. We are licensed, insured, multiple ways in every county."

I was hosting a party for approximately 25 people on Saturday and while preparing food on Friday my drain became blocked.  Having been a loyal customer of Melroy Plumbing I called them to see if they could make a same day call.  I was told they weren't sure but would call me back in about 15 minutes.  Approximately 1 hour later they had not returned the call so I called them back.  Again they said they weren't sure id they could come so I told the gentleman that I would call Len the Plumber since they advertise same day service to see if they had someone available.  I did call Len the Plumber and they said they would come, but it would be late in the day.  Soon thereafter Melroy called me back and said someone could be at my house around 3:00 pm.  As I sid, having been a loyal custom of Melroy I called Len the Plumber and thanked them but cancelled the appointment.
At 3:00 pm as promised a Melroy employee arrived, snaked my drain, and in approximately 10 minutes the drain was open and they were gone.  A few days later I received a bill for $300.00, I was shocked.  They did indeed come and open the drain but $300.00 for a 10 minute service seems awfully expensive.  I felt as if they knew that I was in need and took advantage of that fact.  I realize that I should have asked for an estimate prior to having them come but I never dreamed that snaking a drain, a 10 minute job, would cost $300.00.
I will say that I have used their services many time in the past and was always happy with the service but his time I felt as if I were gouged.  Also, I am not saying that I will never call upon them again but if you use their services be certain to get an upfront good faith estimate.

The work was complicated and extensive. It was not your typical installation, as there was a lot of extra work required. I have had them do a number of things in my home over the last 20 years and they have always been absolutely excellent.

The service people were pleasant on the phone and arrived on scheduled time.  I took a while for the job to be done and the service person didn't have all the parts.  He returned twice and it turned out costing us much more than originally expected.  But in the end the job was done, the problem fixed.

This job was not done very professionally, in my opinion.Let’s start with the good.  The main objective was to hook up a water filter, located in the basement, into the water supply line that went to the fridge. The plumber told me that he was required to eliminate the saddle valve at the origin of the line in order to meet code.  I agreed to that additional work. He did accomplish those two tasks: eliminating the saddle valve, and hooking up the water filter. However, I also told him that he could replace the supply line with a larger diameter line if that would get me faster water flow. Contrarily, he ripped out the entire existing water line (1/4 inch copper tubing) and replaced it with exactly the same thing (new 1/4 inch copper tubing). I asked him why he had replaced it. His first answer was, “because you wanted it replaced.” I said, in effect, “Not with the same size line.  I wanted faster water flow.”  So then he said that a larger line wouldn’t have given me faster water flow (which I find hard to believe), and that he had replaced the existing line (changing his tune here) because it had had a kink in it. The fact is, he never showed me the alleged kink, and he never got authorization to replace the existing water line with the same kind of line. But he charged me for it – both time and materials.I also told him that I wanted a bleed valve installed on the output side of the filter, and I explained why. He talked me out of the bleed valve, saying that a stop valve in the same place would meet my needs better. It turned out he didn’t know what he was talking about. Without a bleed valve, installing the filter element now requires two people, not just one.  One person has to be at the refrigerator, holding the water dispenser valve open, while another is in the basement slowly opening the valve on the input side of the filter. This is the only way to prevent an inrush of water from tearing up the filter element.  A bleed valve near the filter would have made changing the filter a one-man job. After talking me out of the bleed valve and into an unneeded stop valve, the plumber said he would have to go get the needed stop valve, and I’d be paying his hourly rate for that errand, but that it would only be “a few minutes.”  His “few minutes” became half an hour.  Instead of going to the plumbing supply store 5 minutes from my house, he went to an ACE hardware store 10 minutes away.He didn’t have proper tools for the job. He was mangling hex nuts with pliers, and as a result, two of his connections to the 1/4 inch copper tubing leaked initially. I supplied fixed wrenches of the proper size, and with those he got the fittings tight enough not to leak.He didn’t have proper materials. He used grossly oversized clamps to “secure” the copper tubing, because he didn’t have right-sized clamps in his truck. The tubing is not well secured. To summarize my complaints:  (1)  I am unhappy that I ended up without a bleed valve.  (2)  I am unhappy at the bad advice regarding the bleed valve and stop valve.  (3)  I am unhappy that I got sold an essentially pointless stop valve.  (4)  I am unhappy that I ended up with slow water flow and a 1/4 inch water line.  (5)  I am unhappy that the existing supply line was replaced without my authorization and for apparently no good reason.  (6)  I am unhappy that the guy didn’t go to the closest/quickest place to get the part he needed.  (7)  I am unhappy that his truck wasn’t stocked with all the parts one might need for a simple job like this.  (8)  I’m unhappy that he didn’t even have proper tools.I paid for this job by the hour (plus marked up parts & materials).  It was a high hourly rate. I expect more professionalism for that kind of rate.

My wife called Melroy Plumbing & Heating, Inc asking for service and explained the problem. Two people (Don and Mike) came on time and started by checking radiators for air. After that they went down to the basement to check the heater and discovered that a circulator pump was burned out.  They called Melroy's headquarters for the price and availability of this part. While they were waiting for the information, they said that they could change a gas c*** and install a drip leg so that the equipment would be in agreement with a contemporary code. I asked for how much it would cost. They said : about $30 for parts and approximately 0.5 hr of work. It sounded Ok to me, and I agreed. Then people from the headquarters called with the info on the price for the circulator pump. It would cost $149.98. I asked how long it would take them to install this part, the answer was : about 1 (one) hour or a little more. So I agreed. I had to leave for work and my wife was at home at the time the job was finished. She got a receipt for the total amount due .... $981.98... including $261.98 for parts and $720 for labor. I am still shocked ... we could change the whole heater for this price. And definitely it was not the price I agreed on.

I called Melroy and was greeted pleasantly and professionally. After assessing my problem the dispatcher asked me if I would be home this afternoon. When I answered yes, he indicated that someone would be right over. A Melroy plumber arrived within twenty minutes of my call, removed and replaced the leaky section of pipe, and replaced/rerouted adjacent piping to improve the drainage from the garbage disposal to prevent sludging of waste and recurrence of the problem. He spent an hour and fifteen minutes and left the work area clean. I really could not have been more pleased.

called for clogged bathroom drain, they fixed that, I also asked about clogged kitchen sink (I think it was in that order) they fixed that, too, but charged more than I thought they should have. You can't get plumbers to even give you a rate schedule- that sort of evasiveness seems endemic. But the man was nice and knew what he was doing. They just charged a bit too much.

I called them to check where the A/C condensation was going, in response to a question from an inspector. They concluded that it was probably going into the sanitary sewer, which is illegal. I chose not to make sure by opening up walls, and just asked them to reroute it. They came back and installed a pump and piping to route the water to the same place the laundry water goes. After they left, I found a problem with the drainage, which they returned immediately to fix, at no extra charge. I've used them for all my plumbing and HVAC work for years, and have always been happy with their work. They're highly professional, reliable, and honest.

The contractor did an excellent job in all respects. The salesman was the best I've seen - very thorough, straightforward, and clear in his explanations and proposals. He submitted several alternative proposals and explained the pros and cons of each, and then answered several rounds of questions via email. The installers were excellent as well - prompt, quiet, polite, and efficient.

It went very well overall. The technician very patiently answered all of my questions about the gas lines and didn't once act patronizing or condescending. He not only fixed the pipe and valve, but checked to make sure all my other gas appliances (furnace, stove, water heater) were properly connected (that's when he found the loose nut that was causing a slight gas leak). He gave me a great deal of advice; my water heater was turned fairly high, which would shorten its life, the external dryer venting was of the wrong type (and I'd been told that before), I needed to make sure the dryer vent pipe inside the wall wasn't vinyl as that was unsafe, etc. He also warned me what to watch out for when I had gas appliances installed by the people who deliver them (they should NEVER put any substance in the connector hoses, for example). I was very pleased with the services rendered.

They explained in detail why the furnace was not working and not only recommended a new furnace, but also showed us how to improve our whole system. It took a couple days before they could install a new furnace. However, they performed the work as soon as possible, installed a high efficiency gas furnace, and even worked on the weekend to complete the installation. They even offered to lend us a space heater so that we could have some heat while we had to wait, (since we have small children in the house). The owner, Lance, who was very knowledgeable, gave us special attention and worked hard to get heat back into our home. Melroy did not just replace an old furnace, they upgraded our heating system. We will be using them this summer to add central air conditioning to the new furnace installed. We could not add cooling before with the old furnace. They were looking ahead for our future comfort needs as well as our current crisis. They took the worry out of an emergency situation.

It went very badly, they never actually honored their contract. The installers arrived and informed us of the difficulty of acquiring fuel for the stove in this area. We questioned this, asked to speak to the owner (manager), his name is Lance. He was very unpleasant and argumentative. My husband and I were unsure of whether we wanted to proceed with the work, but then decided to go ahead with the installation and told him and the workmen. He refused to have them install our stove, we had to find another company to do the installation, and Melroy will not honor the warranty on the stove.
