The work began as scheduled with removal of shingles and tar paper. Unfortunately, the prior roofer had done a very poor job. As a result, there was more FRT plywood that had to be removed and replaced than expected. In addition, the plywood installation at the gable was of very poor construction which required partial removal of the gable. In all, 15 sheets of plywood were required to get the job done, not to mention the extra work and time involved on a very hot day with full sun exposure! Nevertheless, the work was completed in 2 days and my roof looks wonderful. The job involved much more than the contract required, but Mr. Pence and his crew put in the extra effort to make sure the roof was properly installed under the terms of the initial contract at the original price. To say that I got more than I paid for would be an understatement. The workmanship on my roof comes with a 5-year warranty, along with a 25-year manufacturer material warranty. Robert Pence Remodeling, Inc. has given me peace of mind insofar as my roof is concerned, and you can't put a price on that.

Mr. Pence came out to my house within one day after I called him for an estimate. His price was very fair, he gave me helpful advice in selecting a grade and color for the new shingles, and he even left some samples so I could make a selection. He was able to start the job as soon as I gave him the notice to proceed. His workers did the job quickly and neatly. The only hitch was that they didn't install the roof fan that the scope of work called for. I called Mr. Pence to tell him about this, he came to my house the next day to verify that his workers had indeed omitted the fan. He apologized, had a fan delivered the next day, and installed it within a couple of days after that. Overall, I appreciated Mr. Pence's responsiveness, his ability to rectify a problem immediately, his price, and the quality of his work.

Mr. Pence returned my initial call within 1 day. He came out within a few days of the initial call to give us an estimate. Work was completed quickly (once it stopped raining!). After the gutters were installed, some of the roofing tiles appeared to have been pushed up a bit. He came out within a day and corrected that. Mr. Pence answered all our questions and responded to our questions or concerns quickly.

This was a house we just moved into, and we knew that we would need the roof replaced. He happily got on the roof with me and showed me exactly what problems I would have and what I should do. After getting a bunch of estimates and quotes from other roofers, they all, when combined, found the same things, but none were as meticulous or complete as what Robert found. When time came to do the job, he was on time, and his crew was very professional. They did a great job, got it all done in one day, and when they were gone, you couldn't even tell they had been there except for the beautiful new roof. Afterwards, I noticed something the people (not Robert) who had done the siding years ago screwed up (the fascia didn't meet the shingles along one rake, as it is supposed to. This is the sider's fault, not the roofer), and as a result, something was needed to cover it You could only tell this if you had bent down in a very small ridge of the roof (I only noticed because I was picking something i had dropped on the roof). I pointed it out to Robert and he sent someone over the next day who fixed it without any complaint or pushback, even though he had already been paid.

Easy; no muss, no fuss I called him for an estimate from my work. He went over to my and called me about the estimate. I approved it and he came back the following morning and did the work. The End. No leak so far.............

My boyfriend and I naturally wanted to view the work he did and when he was done we asked if we could inspect it. He made what we felt were some inappropriate remarks and would not allow us the use of his ladder to inspect his work, although we have homeowners' insurance. We still hoped to view the work, but as an alternative to inspecting it, I opted to go through the checklist that we had agreed upon. When we went into the home to go over the checklist, I reminded him that my boyfriend wanted to check the work, and told him that we would be in contact with him if we found anything incorrect. I asked him some detailed questions while going down the list of service he promised to complete so that I could thoroughly understand what exactly he did. I had specific questions about the turtle box vents and wanted to know how he secured them and how they worked. He had earlier told me that the work that he did would not necessarily fix the leak on one side of the house and informed us that previous work on the gutter was incomplete. He suggested that I have the gutter installer in to see about the potential leak issue. While going through the checklist I reminded him that I was going to have the gutter installer come back to inspect the work. He seemed to know the gutter installer, and for some reason at that point he simply turned and walked out of my home. I still had my checkbook out and he said absolutely nothing. I was ready to pay him and he did not even give me the chance to do so. We still have not had the opportunity to inspect the work he did but we are fearful that he is going to put a lien on the home for nonpayment. We are of course willing to pay for the work but we first want to inspect the work and get some more complete answers regarding the vents. UPDATE: Apparently, we had a miscommunication, and he thought we were not paying him at all until we had the work inspected. After viewing the Angie?s List report, he did call and cleared up our miscommunication. I was very pleased that he called and consider the matter resolved. He took the time to come out and explain everything that was done. We feel very comfortable with the repairs that were done, and we are confident in his work now. He more thoroughly explained the operation and installation of the turtle box vents, and we were able to pay him for the work. We were very pleased with the action he took to remedy the situation. I now feel comfortable and confident in choosing Robert Pence Remodeling.

They were excellent! They were prompt in showing up to give us an estimate. They gave us a time frame of when they could come over and do the job. They went up and assessed the problem on my roof. They took care of everything. Throughout the whole process they were able to explain to me what was going on. The crew was kind, courteous, and punctual. They actually called to see if they could do the work a day earlier than we had originally scheduled. All the work was done in a day. There was nothing left in the yard from the demolition or installation of the new roof.

After 14 or 15 days of continuous rain, we had occasion to go into the garden shed for the first time since last summer. There were puddles all over the wooden flooring, and the flower pots on the potting bench were filled with water. W had had a handyman replace the roof about 5 years earlier, but he was nowhere to be found now. We used Angie's List recommendations to get some estimates for a new roof. Mr. Pence's estimate was the same amount to the dollar as one of the other bidders, but he had spent a lot of time examinng the inside and outside of both buildings, and his estimate included the replacement of support beams and posts not included in the other bid. Same price for more work; excellent Anglie's List reviews - - it did not take us long to decide to have his firm do the work. His employees were here on time on the scheduled day, worked steadily (and surprisingly quietly!), and cleaned up every scrap of trash from our property. The job was finished late in the afternoon of the same day, and Mr. Pence returned to inspect the work, which was excellent and included extra support work at no additional cost. We have had a lot of repair work done on our 90-year-old home over the years, and increased the size of the house by 50% with an addition 17 years ago. We both agree that our experience with Mr. Pence was the most pleasant and successful of our contractor experiences. We have already recommended him to our friends, and we regret only that Angie's List doesn't have a grade higher than an "A" to give to him.

Our area had a wind storm that damaged the roof over our garage. We did not immediately realize that there was anything wrong. Weeks later the roof began to leak into an upstairs bedroom and we needed help fast. We called several roofers and received several estimates. After researching further we decided to go with Robert Pence. It was a wise choice, because he was able to start the work almost immediately (therefore no more inside damage). His crew was always prompt and pleasant and the work was completed on schedule. It was a pleasure working with him and I would definitely recommend him.

Having been badly burned by two different roofers in recent years, I picked the best I could from Angieslist and got eight estimates. I had confidence that at least six of them would do the job right. Mr. Pence was one of those and had the real advantage of coming in at a price $1300 lower than the next lowest estimate. He was very accommodating as to financing and timing. His crew, closely supervised by himself, came and finished the job in one day and were meticulous in cleaning up after themselves. A week after the work was completed, I had some minor questions and Mr. Pence came over the next day to answer them in full. I am satisfied that the roofing was done right and that Mr. Pence will stand behind whatever job he does. In my case, the price was slightly higher than the estimate since a larger than expected part of the roof had to be rebuilt.

Called, asked for quote , They drove by to take a look a the roof, left a quote/contract, arranged to pick it up when signed, told us what date they would be by showed up, did the job quickly and avoided hitting my roses with ladders like some other professionals had in the past. replaced the turbine vent and charged what they said they would, Very hassle free and convenient experience with good communication.

It turned out very well. Mr. Pence came himself after the job was done and inspected everything. When I did have a problem, my call was returned that day and the work was repaired the following day. I would not use their gutter guards again if I had maple trees because the seeds get stuck in them.

I couldn't be happier with how painless it all was. Since I'm not on the roof and not a roof expert, and didn't notice most of the leaks, I can't comment on the quality of his work other than to say it all looks good from what I can see from on the ground. I can comment on how professional, prompt, responsive, and easy to work with Robert was. He gave me some good advice about our roof and a few other issues I asked about(gutters and a porch floor that keeps rotting). I don't look forward to having roof problems, but I certainly will be happy to deal with him again the next time I could use his services.

I had shingles coming off my room everytime there was a strong wind. Over the years I had spent a few hundred dollars (maybe more) replacing the shingles. I was once told by a contractor I needed a new roof. Tired of the constant replacing of shingles, I called few roofers for a quote on a new roof. Alan (from Robert Pence) came in, saw the problem I was having, and said he would return the next day with his roofer to actually walk on the roof. The next day after his expert roofer came, Alan said I just required a section of the roof replaced, as the shingles were coming off just that one area- I did not need the entire roof replaced!! Two other contractors I called said the entire roof had to be replaced I appreciate his honesty. He was punctual, pleasant, and during the job he came and checked the work at least 7-8 times during the day. This was in addition to the foreman on site.

All work was done in an excellent manner and was very timely. The quality of the work was outstanding. The work was supervised at every step. Problems encountered(removing rotten plywood)were solved very effectively. In every respect it was a worry free, pleasant experience.

This is the third major remodeling project that Robert Pence, Inc. has done for us. That should speak volumes about our confidence in the quality of their work! Just as with the roof and siding projects, replacement of our doors and windows was extremely professional and was "on budget and on time."

It went better than I expected. He even came back after a while to see if things were functioning properly. I highly recommend him.

Overall a great experience. Robert called me shortly after I had left a message and came out to give me an estimate within a day. Once we agreed on what would be done, the work began almost immediately. Robert was honest and I felt he didn't try to "sell" me anything I didn't need. His crew cleaned up when they finished for the day. Robert takes great pride in his company and their work and his guarantee is that you will be very pleased with the outcome, which I am! This company was recommended by a friend who was also very pleased with their work.

Mr. Pence and his staff were very professional. Old material was cleaned up and taken away. Work was completed in a timely manner. Mr. Pence's prices are affordable.

Excellent. The whole project was fast and professionally done from start to finish. We had a roof leak and called Robert Pence Remodeling, Inc. He returned our call within 2 hours and gave us a bid that day which beat the others significantly. The next day he loaded the materials onto the roof in a couple of hours. The very next day the roof was put on completely, in one day! The next morning the seamless gutters were fabricated on site and completely installed in a few hours. Robert Pence was personable and professional. He gave us the times when work would begin and the unbelievably industrious crew showed up exactly on schedule. Robert was in contact with us on a daily basis about who, what, how, when and where. He couldn't have been more helpful. The roofing crew was amazing. They only took a modest lunch break and the rest of the time was non-stop work. We have a two-story split-level ranch home, so the roofing job was not small. The roof looks great. I would highly recommend Robert Pence Roofing for any roofing, gutter, or skylight projects. I also recommend his company for the Page of Happiness award. I'm that happy with the work.

Excellent work. Finished on time, polite workers and pleasant contractor. He explained maintenance of gutters, etc. Ill hire Mr. Pence again when need arises on this Rockville rental property.

Contacted company and was promptly called back by Allan who scheduled an estimate for a date convenient for both. Came to our home at the time scheduled and delivered detailed estimate. Because I had requested several estimates, I called Allan and asked a lot of questions regarding the differences between some of the estimates and the services provided by their company versus the other estimates that I had received. Allan was very patient and walked me through all the differences. After we made the decision to go with this company, we called Allan to schedule a time and he was very helpful in, again, accommodating our schedule so that we could be around the house while the work was performed. It is clear that this company is attentive to the comments that are left on Angie's list (this thing really works!) as I was contacted by Allan approximately 1 month after submitting a report on Angie's List. I had been very busy at work and hadn't had the chance to call Robert Pence but was contacted by them simply by posting the comments in my Angie's List feedback. One complaint I had about this company came prior to starting the work when I asked them about the possibility of laying down tarps or some other type of covering in my attic as I figured there would be a lot of debris that would fall through the roof as they took down the old shingles and decking. I was told that the debris would be minimal and that such a covering would not be needed. It did not take long for the take down of the old roof to show that there was a LOT of debris that came through the roof into the attic, through our trap door and into our hallway. I was kind of annoyed by this because I was going to have to either get up there myself and clean with an industrial vac or hire someone to address this for me. However, after posting the problems on Angie's List, the company sent out a crew with industrial vacuums to clean the attic. The remainder of the roof job went fine and the crew did a nice job of cleaning everything up outside the house. A few days later, another subcontracting group came and replaced our gutters and downspouts, all of which looked good and have stood up thus far to the heavy rains we've had over the past couple of weeks. Aside from the attic issue addressed above, I also noticed some that there were new cracks in the soffit, presumably where the old gutters were taken off. Again, Robert Pence sent out a crew to re-caulk the cracks in question as well as to test the gutter functioning and make some adjustments when they were noted to not be draining properly. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with the responsiveness to my comments on Angie's List and would strongly recommend this company. Plan to pay for the quality but you should expect excellent and thorough service. Kudos!

My husband called Mr. Pence's company in the morning and within a half hour received a return phone call. Mr. Pence came to our home within hours, climbed our roof, and assessed the problem--a hole at the base of the chimney, two bees' nests, and J channel in need of caulking. Prior to his visit, two other roof companies supposedly repaired our roof, but we continue to have problems when it rains and water damage in our master bathroom ceiling. Because Mr. Pence is allergic to bees he was unable to complete the repair himself, however he recommended another company. He also gave us a ballpark amount of what the repair should cost. I was given his name by a trusted friend and wouldn't hesitate to use his company.

RESPONDED TO MY MORNING CALL IN 2 HOURS AND HAD A CREW ON SITE THE NEXT DAY. FINISHED ALL WORK BY THE END OF THE FOLLOWING DAY.
