FANTASTIC! John Allen is amazing. I had complete confidence in him and his team the entire time. He is trustworthy and honest and does THE BEST work in town. In fact, I have used other contractors since and am retroactively writing this report because he stands so far above his competition. He gave us wonderful advise and was very patient in explaining the process to us. He is a bit expensive but we splurged on the roof since is fundamental and it was in such bad shape from years of neglect from the previous owner. Every other contractor who has seen his work has been openly impressed--which I think speaks volumes. I would have John do every inch of my house if I could afford it! I recommend him without hesitation!

We have had the good fortune of hiring AllenBuilt to build a three story addition to our house. The addition is an inlaw unit (a Registered Living Unit in Montgomery County), so it basically entailed the creation of a new home from scratch, designed to fit onto and visually complement the existing home. After hearing all manner of scare stories concerning shoddy and unscrupulous behavior in the contracting business we were apprehensive. But AllenBuilt did an absolutely marvelous job with total integrity. Not only did this company perform beautiful and meticulous work but they were a pleasure to work with through the entire process. They were here everyday, on time and were extremely solicitous of our needs and desires. They demonstrated great pride of workmanship and did nothing half way. They worked on every detail until it was absolutely perfect. We could tell that each individual who worked on our house cared about the quality of what they were constructing and wanted us to be happy with it. They weren't just concerned with following the plans blindly; if something came up along the way that someone thought might work better, they brought it to our attention and asked if we wanted it. For example, one of the workers was working on some linen closet shelves and the plans called for them to be all the same width. He came to me and said he thought it might look better if the top ones were recessed and asked if I wanted to consider that. He was absolutely right and I'm so glad he mentioned it. Throughout the process, AllenBuilt worked closely as a team with our designer/architect, Kirk Home Interiors. The teamwork significantly helped to boost the experience of the project and the overall outcome. Also, we lived in the main part of the house while the work was going on. They were extremely considerate of our space, friendly, cleaned up after themselves every day, and made a great effort to make things easy for us. For example, when they varnished the floors in the addition there was a strong smell that came into the main house. When we told them about this they came in early the next morning to put plastic over the heating vents to keep the smell out. This type of consideration made a huge difference and we came to expect it from them every step of the way. They completed the work on schedule and within the budget allotted. This company operates with incredibly strong integrity - much more than we knew existed in this industry. We are pleased to recommend them without qualification.

The best experience I have had with a contractor. I purchased a home in DC, and engaged a "contractor" recommended by my real estate agent to perform work, including enclosing a second floor deck. As work proceeded, I began to question the work being performed, including a lack of permits. Finally, I ascertained for myself that permits were needed and had a stop work order placed on my house to get my contractor to focus. Instead, he disappeared. A roof he had done started leaking, the work was clearly substandard and I needed to get a plan together. I talked with a number of contractors and most wanted nothing to do with dealing with another contractor's mess. John Allen saved me. He developed and executed a plan to resolve the issues, hired an architect and inspector, worked throughout permitting process and ensured worked was redone as necessary. This included reworking the new room and other projects. He focuses extensively on the person, listens, helps devise and execute a plan to meet your needs. Focused on quality, problem solving and has excellent communication. I will use him again on all future needs. While his project for me was not large, he has done successful commercial construction as well as mine.
