Stephanie is very personable and reminds me of the people in the town where I grew up. She was far more responsive than Luke, who refuses to put anything in writing by responding to emails (gee, I wonder why...) but only when I wasn't asking for an account of what she'd spent so far and why she was asking for more money. The short of it is that she charged me at least a 150% markup on everything she purchased?a toilet paper holder from Home Depot that cost $20 would be invoiced at $60, and so on. With little items that might not seem so bad, but with big items?the vanity, the tile?it means she was making an outrageous profit. I asked her clearly many times for receipts and invoices but she refused to provide them and even paid a bunch of lip service to how she knew I wasn't happy with how long the job had taken, and so she was going to greatly reduce her usual fee. This meant she charged me about $1,000 on top of the hugely inflated items, pretending that this was a big sacrifice for her and like she was being really gracious and generous. She even brought her young daughter to our final meeting, which was at my home and while the work was still going on. She'd never done this before and given that it was the day on which we were supposed to go through all the prices and determine how much money I was owed back, I'm certain she did it to avoid a confrontation and being called out as the con artist she is. Do not use this woman's services under any circumstance. I am working with a lawyer right now in the hope of recouping some of what she stole from me.
