The crew led by Nedi completed the job just before sunset and left without telling us. The next morning I filled 2 quart-sized containers with pieces of glass, hard plastic, metal, concrete, pottery, Styrofoam, paper and plastic instruction labels from containers and nylon string, as well as water bottle caps, pull tabs and stones that were in the new topsoil.
I called Paul A. He apologized profusely and blamed their supplier. He came out that evening and spent over 1-1/2 hr collecting several more containers of trash. He said to call him if the yard needed to be policed, again.
The next day, Paul Kolanowski, the owner, called me to apologize. He told me to call him if the yard needed to be policed. He also said that I would not be charged for the topsoil.
As I watered the lawn, more trash came up. I called Paul K., who had Nedi come out. In the meantime, we had several rains. I collected 2 more quart-sized containers of trash. I was not here when Nedi came. Paul A. left a voicemail message that Nedi policed the yard for 1-1/2 hr.
Over the month since, I have collected another quart-sized container of trash that still includes sharp pieces of glass, hard plastic, metal and concrete. I just received the invoice. They did not charge for the topsoil/compost mix. However,
I was charged for the labor to apply the trash-filled mix. They also charged the labor at a higher rate.
I sent an email requesting adjustment to the labor rate, the labor time for the bad topsoil and for the inconvenience of having to pick up trash from our yard. Paul K. replied that they would adjust the labor rate, but make no further adjustments as, “we did all of the work specified.” He boasted that they did not charge for the time picking up the trash.
Given that over 2 gallons of trash has come up so far, Nedi and his crew should have spotted the trash when they applied the topsoil. I am disappointed that Kollins did not adjust the invoice for the labor to apply the bad topsoil and for our inconvenience in having to pick up all the trash and in limiting access to our yard until all of the sharp objects could be removed.
"We are extremely sorry for having left ANY debris on [member name removed]'s lawn. The moment we became aware of the situation, we responded and spent several hours combing the property for debris. The items we found would equate to the volume of a small flower pot. We had applied multiple cubic/yards of topsoil/compost mix after aerating [member name removed]'s lawn on our initial visit in October. Apparently there was a small amount of litter in the mix. We visited the property a third time, raked and policed the entire property, and found less than a handful of debris. We appreciate [member name removed]'s business and regret the inconvenience."
