After wasting a half day waiting for them I called and they were obviously running late and didn’t notify me. I am a preferred customer who was supposed to get priority. Last time they broke a faucet and dc is owned doing it until I pointed out it was working fine when they came in. This is when they were installing furnace and hot water heater. Save yourself aggravation and go elsewhere for honest service They don’t know how to schedule jobs

They came and replaced my submersible pump and did it in one hour. But the price was 750.00 for the pump and labor pump retails for 79.00 and it was raining that is why i payed such an outrageously overpriced job.

I received same day service. 30 minutes before the scheduled arrival of the technician, the company sent me a text saying they were on their way and they texted me a picture of the technician. The technician had over 20 years of experience and he was friendly, knowledgable and professional.

Master Plumber, John Plank is fabulous. He installed my sink and did an emergency repair the next day and it was great. However, I had a leak in my bathroom, the new tech couldn't find the leak, but took a look at our running toilet. He said that the master toilet valve needed to be placed. He turned off the main water main to my condo, repaired the toilet and then proceeded to break my water valve and then needed to turn off water for the building! It took hours for this to be repaired, later went to dinner and got a call from my neighbor that there was a leak in the water heater. I called, no one would assist, claimed they couldn't do anything. I called Mr. Plank and he walked me through how to get the water turned off. They came the next morning, an hour and a half after they said they would, and just said it was a broken valve "no big deal, these things happen" What was supposed to be a couple hundred dollars for a leaky toilet ended up costing me nearly a thousand dollars AFTER the discount they grudgingly gave me. They're very nice people and maybe this could've happened to anybody, but this was all just too much for what should've been a small fix. While I am grading the company in this review, I will say Mr. Plank's work and response is an A.

I called John C. Flood late yesterday, and they were able to schedule a service call early today. Dale arrived promptly this morning and quickly identified the problem, even though we have a complex network of unmarked pipes leading to two different systems. As a bonus, he taught me how the whole network works, how part of it was built incorrectly, and how it could be improved to perform better over time. The price was reasonable, and Dale was knowledgeable and helpful. When we need future heating or A/C work (possibly to make those longer-term improvements), I'd use John C. Flood again and request Dale by name.

Plumber arrived in the early portion of the four hour window we were given. Everything went down hill from there. We have a 10+ year old American Standard, standard height, round front, two piece toilet (your basic toilet with a tank bolted onto the bowl). The plumber replaced the wax ring but in the process broke the flush handle and loosened the tank. He called the scheduler who informed me that "sometimes the tank comes loose" when two-piece toilets get moved and because the toilet was 10+ years old it was likely that when they sawed off the bolts to replace the tank seal and the gaskets around the bolts they would probably crack the tank. His response: Suggest I have an entirely new toilet installed, to the tune of almost $900 which he graciously offered to discount by $100 because they'd also have to provide a new wax ring (the work they just completed.) A round front, standard height toilet costs less than $100 at Home Depot. It took my spouse about 15 minutes to loosen the tank bolts with a screw driver and a wrench. No "cutting" required. The plumber they sent us was either sloppy and lazy and picked my toilet up by the tank to move it, or he broke the handle on the tank on purpose. Either way, with Flood now charging $179 just to ring your doorbell I'll be finding another plumber.

They were okay. They did not have uniforms so I asked for ID as I wasn't sure they worked for the company. That is my only real complaint and maybe a little pricey for the service. But, overall they were okay. The uniforms would help let people know they are a legitimate company.

We had expected the technician to arrive at 2:00 but he did not arrive until 3:10.  The problem was very difficult to find and it took over two hours for the air conditioner to be repaired.  The company said  that the problem with the thermostat could have happened during the two week period since the initial inspection on April 23.  Jason found that the thermostat was not making the connection to the part in the back yard.  At first he said the problem was not caused by malfunctioning safeties, but upon further checking he determined that was the problem.  He found a replacement float safety part on the truck and was able to correct the problem.  I was given an hour credit because the company needed to send a second technician to check the a/c to make sure that it is working.  Jason was very friendly and shared a lot of information with me.

The inspection lasted 45 minutes.  The technician was very quiet.  The temperature outside was in the 50's.  Usually when the technician comes to check the a/c he adjusts the temperature to make sure the unit works properly.  This technician barely adjusted the thermostat while he was here.  The ticket says he checked the cooling fan and he said all was okay. I accepted that the job was done correctly and made the payment.  But when I turned on the air conditioning on May 7 it was not working.  The company sent another technician.  Jason said that the thermostat was not working.

Plumber arrived at appointed time.  He efficiently removed the rusted pipe and installed a new trap.  I asked him if he would be able to remove a toilet in another bathroom.  He called his office and they gave him the ok.  The toilet was original to the house (1954).  It was a difficult job and Mr. Bailey was very careful not to break anything in the floor.  I am very pleased that he was willing to do this extra work for me.

Called for service early in am.  Serviceman arrived shortly thereafter and replaced an ignitor in my furnace.  I am very happy to have the heat back. The company provided me a 6-month guarantee.  Serviceman was efficient and professional.  He was very pleasant.

On Monday he arrived at 8:30 AM.  He replaced the gas valve and said a thermocoupler needed to be replaced also.  It has a metal piece and he showed me that it was burnt.  He had a price book and told me that replacement of the thermocoupler would be $150.  I told him to call the shop because this price was unreasonable since the part is small, takes 10 minutes to install and he is already at the house.  The part looks like something that could be purchased at Home Depot for $25.  The shop manager told him to sell it for $36.  Do not be afraid to question the cost.  Also, sometimes there is a slight noise now but I have not determined it I will ask the technician to return to check the noise..  The technician has been with the company for two months.  The house is warm again.  I checked with a friend about the cost for the gas valve and he felt that the price from John C Flood was reasonable because the part is an electronic part and they add two hours for installation.  The installation took about 2 hours.

Not sure why the title is John C Flood of VA because the technician said he came  from Hyattsville.

The technician came and had to be remote controlled by the senior technician over the phone. Stated the circuit control board was bad and needed to be replaced. When asked what caused it to go bad- was there a cause and effect scenario that caused the problem. The answer was NO, these things just happen- there is not always a reason - thats the way electronics are sometimes. $159 service charge.  Two days later showed up to replace the control board.  At this point, I had water beading in the ceiling and obvious staining in some places.  I asked if there was a problem with the air handler that was causing the moisture and obvious large amounts of water to be collecting in my ceiling.  The technician told me how the system was supposed to function and drain and shut off if there was a problem.  There is a large emergency drip pan in the attic beneath the system. I asked him to check and see if there was any obvious signs of water damage or if the system was causing the problem.  He told me there were no obvious signs of water damage. Blah blah blah. I actually had a roofing specialist come inspect the roof because this guy had me thinking it had to be something other than the AC system.  He spends 20 mintues and charges $1195 dollars for the fix.  My wife and I leave to go camping for 3 days and return to a major nightmare.  The system (which was programmed to work on a timer about 6 hours a day) had completely destroyed 70% of the ceililng AND carpet in this room and also caused water damage in the bedroom below.  Oh and the control board was fried again.  I had another company come out and they confirmed the control board needed to be replaced (their estimate $525!!) and that the drain was clogged and that the emergency pan was full of water and that it had shifted so the mechanical shut off was not operating.  He said the control board was shorting out because of the water!  He made several inexpensive recommendations for what should have been provided earlier!  All of the fixes they recommended for this system and the second system I have, including replacement of the control board was $1300!  This estimate was qualified because the repairman said since the control board was not functioning, he could not tell if the fan motor was damaged or operating.  I called John C Flood of DC - Mark and told him of the problem- the least of which was the fried control board- he sent his senior technician who remembered haveing to help the original repairman and the foreman.  They took pictures and when I told them what happened and the exchange I had with the repairman and my questions about the AC unit causing water damage etc. they could not believe he did not tell me there was a problem with the system. Yes, the installation could have been better but based on the pictures I showed them of the situation at the time the tech first arrived- they agreed he did not handle it correctly and did not give me the advice and recommendations he should have.  When they replace the control board the fan would not work. When they tried to test the fan motor it fried their testing equipment - so yeah the problem got worse (like the other company told me was likely).  They left and when I called Mark to see what John C Flood was going to do to honor the work and the 1 year guarantee written on the invoice- he said he made his recommendations to Mel Davis who would call me in the next day or 2 to tell me what action the company would or would not take.  Its been two weeks and I heard nothing. I just tried to call Mr Mel Davis and John C Flood of DC and the person answering the phone asked my name- I was transferred to him but he never picked up. After 5 minutes I called back and the same thing happened- I am put on hold in silence and no one ever picked up. Thus, I am going to post this review.  The insurance adjuster came out and I am waiting for his report. He did say I needed to contact the claims office to get some mitigation to remedy the mold and he will have the final estimate today.  I am going to sue them in small claims court and I hope and expect the insurance company will come after them on any amounts they pay out.  THEY ARE BAD NEWS!  DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY UNLESS ITS TO PICK UP DOG POOP.  I tried to be professioanl but if you are dealing with a company like this- it is at your own peril.  The last team that came thought they would offer to replace the entire air handler to fix the problem.  I can't even get them to call me back or take my calls- they won't even fix the motor so that my AC is working at least.  Forget the damage that was done as a result of their technician NOT telling me what the problem was.  Oh BTW- they will profile your ability to pay - that is the only reason why I can explain why they charged me so much.  If I am going to pay twice the going rate- I at least expect professional and reliable advice and service.
Response from John C. Flood - DC & Maryland
"I would like to thank “Angies List” for the opportunity to resolve a complaint. Yes! We would and will make every endeaver to solve this fairly and to the satisfaction of both parties. To that point, it is our belief that a melding of both parties beliefs into one story that can be useful when attempting to assign blame and or costs and also give the folks at “Angies List” a better insite as to the hearts of both customer and contractor. You have provided us with the customers side now here is ours. We were asked, by [member name removed] to come to him home because he already has a problem with his AC. Upon arrival we found an attic system that was not functioning. Some testing found the circuit board was bad. As is our policy the mechanic called the office with his diagnosis which serves as a second opinion and has helped us better serves our customers. There was no signs of recent water in the emergency pan or anywhere else. However the ceiling below was staining and somewhat bowed but from the attic no moisture was detectable. A diagnosis of bad control board was given and replacement costs were discussed and agreed to. A $159.00 deposit was accepted and a new board was ordered. Two days later we returned and installed the new board. The customers says in his letter to “Angies List” that “at this point I had water breading in the ceiling and obvious staining in some places.” The AC system wasn’t even working! We had the new circuit board in our hand! A unit not working creates no water! We were going there during a very wet spell of weather. We suspected possible roof problems or maybe plumbing but not the AC system. Definitly the beginnings of mold problems are all from circumstances form prior to our initial visit – thru that day. The board was installed and the unit made operational. The air was cold and the unit was condensing and that condensation was running off. We explained this to our customer and collected our fee. According to the customers own words the system worked properly for a couple of days before they went on their 3day camping trip! It was while they were away that according to the customer, another HVAC contractor told them that he had a condensate stoppage, which backed up the water and its weight eventually brought down a ceiling. These circumstances did not exist when we were there, and could have occurred at any time. The system didn’t back up for at least 2 or more days after we fixed it. While we feel awful about this series of events, we feel it is hardly fair to have us pay for mold remedation, ceiling repairs, or insurance deductables. We would offer to pay all labor for us to repair the system problem (IE. New circuit board and blower motor). Customer to pay only for parts at our cost. Also we would be happy to provide a free estimate to handle defects in original installation."
