We had a very poor experience with this contractor. We had several small exterior problems that needed fixed and most of the work done was either incomplete or incorrectly installed. For example we have three gables on our roof and the trim around one needed replaced. Their workers replaced the trim, but it did not match the other gables. They had to do the work over at least two more times before it finally looked normal. They re-caulked around our front windows even though that was not work I needed done. Water was coming in through windows in the back of our house and the contractor told me he would caulk around them, and then after they were done, they told me they could not caulk around that particular type of window. Fortunately they did allow me to pay a smaller sum (because they did only a portion of the work that needed done).

Seems to me that the best way to tell readers how it went, is just to paste in the letter I wrote to them months after the job was finished. So, here goes. Gentleman: How many ways can one say, “Thank You?” I’m writing to express my appreciation for the quality of work performed and level of professionalism displayed by your employees as they replaced the 58 roofs in our Annapolis town home community. As remarked upon by the area representative of CertainTeed™ Shingles, our association had an extremely tight list of specifications and requirements and your company met or exceeded every requirement. Beginning with your vice president (Glen Highsmith) through the on-site “poet supervisor” and on to each individual workman, every one of your employees was exemplary. Working with a large number of homeowners is never easy, and many of ours are more than a little idiosyncratic. Your employees always displayed the ideal mixture of professionalism and understanding as they addressed issues that arose during the process. Finally, your willingness to return to the community to address issues that were not even within the purview of the contract demonstrated a commitment to customer satisfaction greater than any I have ever accounted, and as you know, I am very demanding. Please express the gratitude of our community to every member of your organization for a job very well done.

Their crew came out a couple times a number of months ago and we recently noticed that the leak was still an issue with recent heavy rains. I contacted Harry and Sons to see if they could re-assess the problem. They sent someone out immediately to look at the roof and were very responsive. They looked under the roof and identified the issue and spent at least a couple hours fixing it and doing a close look at the roof to make sure nothing was missed. Even though we called them a number of months after the initial repair, they didn't charge for the follow up visit and were great to work with

We had 4 quotes from summer of 2014 and just sat on them in hopes that we didn't need to spend the money on a new roof. In the late fall 2014 we called back Harry & Sons and they immediately said they could honor our original quote. We decided to go with a TPO roof so we had to wait until the weather warmed up. Within a day or so of the temperature getting above 50 (sometime in early March 2015) they called and said it was warm enough to install the roof. I give them a B on schedule only b/c they postponed by one day on very short notice. Other than that the service was great - the supervisor stopped at the front door at least twice the beginning and end to ensure we knew what was going on. They even helped clean up glass that broke all over our deck due to high winds. They did a good clean up job. We found the office and manager very easy to work with and answered all our questions.

Cannot recommend this firm! My problems were with the office, not the crews. Crew initially showed up unannounced. Member of the team identified additional work while replacing my mansard roof that needed to be done and requests for additional estimate from them have been ignored…over a month has passed. Also contracted with firm for repointing job. Contract was written to cover only a portion of the wall leaving areas obviously needing attention. Odd. Who repoints half a wall when the whole thing needs to be addressed? Sought an additional estimate for the balance of repointing the wall and no reply. I am looking elsewhere. I had given the company’s name to a neighbor, but have since told her to also look elsewhere.

The roof was leaking in two spots. The estimator said he found the issue and they could fix one; said the other was due to our gutters being clogged. After they patched the roof, the leak continued, so after a heavy rain storm, I called them to have them come back, but had a very difficult time getting any response. The leak continued and I called again, at which point someone showed up when I wasn't home (unannounced), said they repatched it. The leak continued, and I just ended up calling another contractor who identified the issue and reconstructed the peak which was causing the leak.

Repaired tiles on the roof. Took 3+ weeks from estimate to scheduling date and then it was put off by a week.

Overall, the experience was good. The problems I experienced with this company was (1) multiple times when the company did not show up to complete the work when expected and (2) a failure to communicate that there was a need to reschedule the installation, on more than one occasion. The initial installation date was first rescheduled due to a problem the company had on another job which, in my opinion, should not have affected my installation. I believe there were two (2) subsequent scheduled installation dates that came and went, with no installation and no communication from the company explaining why no one showed up. I had to contact the company to find out why they didn't show up. Finally, the day after the last scheduled installation date, the company completed the job. As far as I can tell, the installation was successful and I have not experienced any problems with the new roof.
A representative from the company did contact me after the installation regarding the service and was able to address the issues I had with the no-shows and their lack of communication.

They were courteous, thorough and the workers were efficient. They were professional and explained the entire process which I was very appreciative of.

Harry and Sons cost toward the high side of the estimates we got from several companies, but they also performed more work. Several other companies just wanted to slap a THIRD roof system above the two that already existed (like I said, the previous contractors had done a shoddy job), but Hand S built us a great new roof that hasn't pooled water yet.
Very happy with everyone, from the guy who came out at 7:30am to give us our estimate so I didn't have to miss work, to the crew who performed the job in the middle of a heat wave. We've had the roof up for a few months now, and it works wonderfully and looks great.

I was very pleased with the price and quality of the work. They cleaned up well and I would use them again.
