On Saturday, They (only 2 men, not 3 as was quoted in the "deal") arrived, almost 1 hour & 25 minutes late. No call to warn me they would be late or no show like Friday or anything. Only one could speak marginal English and about 30 minutes after they arrived he explained that they had to leave in 30 minutes because that was all the time they had left. He explained that:
1. They had spent 1 hour &1/2 on the road to my home, 1/2 hour moving me in, and they would need to drive back to be at another job, which would take another hour and a half drive to get to by 4:00 pm.
The "actual"move process:
2. I had marked all boxes by categories. Survival were it be put in the house. Category 4's were ro be put back of garage, category 3 next, category 2 next, & category 1 nearest the front and the entrance to the door to the house, so I could deal with them easily. I'm 69 years old, am physically challenged, but felt this way I could work a little at a time. They paid no heed to my instruction at all, just piled them all over the garage willy nelly, asked for their check and left. Clearly they hadn't understood my instructions. When I mentioned the stuff their boss had said they would take away, they said they didn't understand, & they had to leave right away because they had to be at another job by 4:00. All in all, they were gone by 3:15 pm..
Needless to say, my great Angie's list deal wasn't so great. It's been 3 months now, and I'm STILL struggling to fix the mess so I can move stuff in. And, living out of a suitcase, because ALL the category 1's and survival box are "somewhere behind all the category 4's!
Hope this helps someone avoid this mistake.
I will definitely use this service again when we move in 1-2 years.
Bottom line: they were responsive, friendly, and professional from the first phone call for an estimate right through to the very end of the move (even with the delay of the move cutting into their Friday night plans a bit). Their price was very competitive too.
I should say that I got John Henry's name after calling Bookstore Movers. Bookstore Movers were unavailable, but provided me with a list of referrals a few minutes later via email. I was already planning on calling John Henry Movers when I saw their name on the list, so they were my first call after Bookstore Movers. I can see why both companies are friendly competitors. They both seem like great quality businesses.
