We have two big dogs which are in and out of the house a lot and our carpets require cleaning twice a year, so I was looking for someone who would clean them for less than the $1,500 I have had to pay in the past. I got a coupon in the mail for Green Clean Carept cleaning, a franchise operation, which advertises that they use state-of-the-art cleaning technology that leaves carpets dry in two hours.
I was skeptical, but decided to call and see what they were like. Vincent Dew is the local francisee; he's a sole proprietor and doesn't have a website or use a business email address, but he's very responsive on the phone, and very flexible scheduling estimates and cleaning. He walked through my house, asked about any particular problems or pet stains, etc., gave me an estimate that was a fraction of the cost for shampooing, and came to do the cleaning on a Saturday.
I didn't move large furniture, but did move small chairs and tables to get them out of the way and make it easier for him, but there was still a lot of carpeting to clean. He works by himself, so it took him several hours to complete the job. He was professional, conscientious, and very thorough. He tackled a few areas that were particularly soiled (including a coffee stain on a stair riser that I had not been able to get rid of).
I have paid two carpet cleaners more than $1,200 to shampoo my carpets, and I believe that Vincent got them just as clean as the much more expensive shampooing, and unlike some of the chem-clean or steam cleaning, I didn't see soiled spots pop back up within a few days. Green Clean claims that the carpets will be dry in two hours, and that proved a bit optimistic in my case. But the carpets were NOT wet, and within a few hours all dampness was gone. I didn't have to run around the house putting styrofoam blocks or foil-backed squares under all my furniture to move it back into position, then go back and remove them 24 hours later. I just waited a little longer than the advertised 2 hours and my house was completely back together with clean carpets by late Saturday afternoon.
It's been a month since that cleaning, and I am still satisfied with the job Vincent did. I think he's just starting his business and I don't imagine the price will stay this low if his business increases, but I'm happy to have found him and will call him again to have the carpets cleaned again in a few months when the dogs have tracked in enough dirt to make it necessary.
