Thornett Kitchens LLC

We had a very negative experience with Thornett Kitchens and have spoken with other customers of Tracy McCann who had the same experience. In November 2011 we signed a contract with Tracy for $22,000 in cabinets. We hired our own contractor to do the construction end and they were ready to install the cabinets in April 2012. We were told by Tracy that our cabinets would be delivered on the day we requested, no problem. That day came and went, no cabinets. We were finally able to speak directly with the cabinet company and were advised that our cabinets had just been ordered by Tracy on the same day they were supposed to be delivered to us! Our project was delayed by 4+ weeks. Tracy's gave us her excuse for the cabinet delay, but we found it to be untrue. When our cabinets did arrive, every single cabinet was incorrect -- wrong door style, no upgrades that we had requested, etc. It was apparent that Tracy had 1) never bothered to write down our choice of cabinet style and 2) had no idea how to fill out the order form for this cabinet manufacturer. After another very long delay, we finally received the corrections -- some items did not arrive until October 2012! Throughout, Tracy would only contact us by email. We never received an offer for a small refund for all of the mistakes, or even an offer to sit down face to face to discuss the problems and a remedy. Overall, I think Tracy and her company (Thornett Kitchens and/or Nancy Thornett Assoc -- she uses both names on her contract) has considerable financial problems -- she needed our deposit and didn't care about our cabinet order. The lessons I have learned in this -- 1) always check court records for individuals and companies before signing a contact. It will give a clear picture of the person you are dealing with. 2) check the Maryland Home Improvement Commission (DLLR) website for current license info -- I have not found a MHIC# for Thornett Kitchens. This site will also give an idea of what is allowed/not allowed on a contract -- we found a few problems here too and 3) make sure that you are allowed to discuss your cabinet order directly with the cabinet manufacturer, not just the kitchen designer. After 9 months, my kitchen is still not completely finished! Save yourself the headache -- use one of the many reputable kitchen design firms locally and not Thornett Kitchens.
