After about 2 weeks , the watch began to run slow again. This time, we will have to send it to Movado.
Description of Work: My husband's Movado watch was running slow. We took it to the Arlington location for repair. We asked if we could retrieve it from the Leesburg location. Owner forgot to transfer the watch. That said, however, they did deliver it to our house.

Husband and wife showed up ON TIME. Did all the work at our house. Explained what they were doing as they did it. Gave us pointers on future clock maintenance. We were extremely pleased!

The service was quick. It may have been a little pricey, but I was eager to get the job done. He appeared to be very knowledgeable and qualified.

I've told the story above.
Description of Work: I've used Ecker's twice and was impressed both times by the quality of the work and the knowledge of watchmaking upon which the repairs were based. The first was a repair of a Cartier watch that had been losing time. Cartier told me that it was just time to clean and adjust the watch -- a process for which they charge something north of $500. I passed on that offer. Ecker's was highly recommended by a friend. Ed Compton discovered that the watch had been dropped and that the pins that hold the watch face in place had bent. The edge of the little hole through which the axle that holds the hands protrudes was actually touching the axle and slowing it down. He simply straightened the pins and centered the hole. Problem solved. He charged less than $200, a pretty significant discount from the Cartier overhaul. Given the knowledge, experience, and skill involved, it seemed like a very fair price. The second watch was a Tudor Submariner -- Rolex's second brand -- that I've owned since 1976. For almost as long as I can remember, the date stopped changing on the 5th of the month. I have had two major services of the watch -- one by Rolex and one by Lenkersdorfers -- and despite my request to fix the date-changing problem each time, it persisted. I even sent the watch back to Lenkersdorfers for a re-do after they failed to fix the issue. They installed a new date wheel at no charge, but it still didn't solve the problem. Ecker's noticed that a cog in a gear that helped change the date every day was slightly deformed. A small tweak was all that was necessary although neither Rolex nor Lendkersdorfer's were able to figure that out. Ecker's got it on the first try. The watch has worked perfectly ever since -- for the first time in 30 years! My only quibble with Ecker's is that Ed was a bit slow in completing the work. I needed to make two or three weekly visits (I can only get there on weekends) before getting the Tudor back, despite a promise that it would be ready earlier. Given the extraordinary success I've enjoyed with Ecker's, however, this is a minor annoyance. I should add that the last time I brought my Tudor to Ecker's it was to ask that a small touch of rust apparent at the edge of the crystal be removed. He opened the case and could see that it would be impossible to access the rust spot (this is an underwater watch and I've scuba-dived with it on a great many occasions) without replacing the crystal -- an unwarranted expense. He reassembled the watch after about 10 minutes and returned it to me. I asked how much I owed him. "Well, I didn't fix it, so nothing." That's integrity!

I think I spent about $100 on the job. I had reviews about them online. There were only a limited number of people, who could work on my grandfather's clock and who did house calls. So, I used this company. They did a very good job. They were very good. I will use them again in the future.

Had used on prior occasions - work ok but quite expensive and sometimes not timely. Left watch to replace crystal. When picked up, Eckers said that the face plate had been displaced and had to be realigned. He asked for $185. I protested that he never called to provide an estimate as is clearly required under local law. He then queried what I thought job was worth, and I said $85 (that probably was too high) which he readily accepted. I do not trust Mr. Eckers and will never use him again. There are other highly qualified and less costly watch repairers in the area about whose integrity I have no doubt.

This man takes forever to complete a job. These two clocks were in his shop for over 18 months. He is too slammed with work. The end result is that the work he does is substandard. The Seth Tomas clock had to go back and was left again for 6 months...it would not run...after first repair. The "anniversary" clock is a very simple movement...it had to go back two times as well.
Description of Work: Clock repairs to a simple "anniversary" clock and a Westminster chime Seth Thomas Mantle clock.
