A very experienced, knowledgeable, professional estimator came out and spend a long time evaluating and discussing my roof. I never received an estimate despite numerous calls. I left messages, and no one returned my calls. I reached the owner on one of the calls, and he said he'd send the estimate. He did not. Apparently they recognize my number now, as no one will pick up when I call. There were no demands or critical words--just unprofessional lack of response.

They came out quickly and looked at the damage and gave me an estimate. I also asked for some repairs to our gutters that I'd been meaning to get around to, which they could handle. It was winter so they advised me the schedule was subject to change depending on weather. I ultimately had to call for follow-up to get the services performed, but they came the next day and I have been happy with the work. The final charges were same as the quote I was given. I'll go back to them in the future, although if I have a larger job I'll probably price compare.

The asphalt shingles on the older half of my roof had been causing problems for the last few years. After several visits to patch parts of the roof, Bethesda Sheet Metal & Roofing recommended replacing it. When the price to replace the entire roof was too high, they came up with an estimate that I could afford for the part that had been causing problems. The crew arrived as scheduled and finished the job in a day and a half (less time than they originally estimated). The firm's manager checked in at the start of the job and after it was over. When I had concerns about one part of the job, he sent their top roofer over to inspect it. Turns out there was no problem, I just didn't understand how the flashing was designed to work. Overall, it was a great job, although the crew could have done better cleaning up after themselves on the second day. (The first day was fine.)

A heavy rain revealed numerous leaks in my roof.  The shingles are now 19 years old and we've had an increasing number of problems.  Gabby surveyed the situation and recommended replacing the old roof.  However, he said it would be better to hold off until warmer weather in the spring, when the adhesive under the new shingles would bind together more effectively.  He found one deteriorating vent collar, which he replaced and also one cut shingle that he replaced.  The other leaks were caused by nails popping up through the old shingles.  He sealed these with roofing cement as a temporary repair to get us through the weather.  It took him about two hours, including a trip to the roofing supply company for the replacement vent collar.

Gabby is terrific. He took pictures of everything so I'd know what he was doing. Extremely knowledgable about causes of leaks we were experiencing, and about materials needed to fix. He and his co-worker worked quickly and made sure to keep premises clean. I have already recommended this company to a friend.

They had installed a copper roof on our front porch and it was maybe 15 years ago and I had them come to look at it because it was starting to leak. And they did come and look and gave me, I thought, useful, decent information about fixing and correcting it. And they actually did a pretty good decent job. So far it has kept the water out. They were quick and efficient.

I contacted Bethesda Sheet Metal and described the problem of condensation in my skylights and the fact that it was interfering with my installing shades there. They scheduled an appointment for me within 2 days with Gabby. He arrived and went up on the room to explore the skylight. Even though he ultimately concluded that there was nothing that Bethesda Sheet Metal could do about my problem, he was very knowledgable, spent about 45 minutes with me, and gave me good advice, which helped me rule out a lot of the options that I had been considering.

These guys are great! They tackle the smaller jobs that bigger firms don't want to bother with. A few months ago, a tree fell on a corner of my house, crumpling the gutter and damaging about a dozen shingles. Gabby repaired the gutter (and did not push for a replacement as another contractor might have done) and replaced the broken shingles. He then walked the roof looking for other shingles that needed replacing to try to use up the package he had to buy for the job. There were still a few shingles leftover so he left them with me to save for future repairs. Their most recent job for me was replacing a decades-old clothes drier vent. The old vent had been stuck in the wall with only caulk to hold it in place. Gabby installed the new vent with screws and caulk to ensure a solid fit. This kind of attention to detail and concern with and quot;doing the job rightand quot; is rare these days.

Thoughtful and creative work -- well planned and well executed. Great attention to detail and executing practical solutions to complex problems. Unlike any other roofing company I have worked with. Not cheap.

Roofer Gabriel came and called me with a report that there were 3 small leaks and they were fixed. No invoice ever came. Then roof leaked again in same place. Again he came and plugged another leak but said previous roofing was laid over old tiles and old ones were crumbling and causing leaks. Said they would come back and estimate how much of roof needed replacing. Never came and never got a bill. I spoke to Bob the owner who is always very pleasant and he said they were behind in their work. Said someone would come. As of today no one has come and I have never been billed for the work. I am mystified by the company's indifference to more possible work and bills payable.
Response from Bethesda Sheet Metal & Roofing Inc
"The member originally contacted us on 10/1/10 with water leaking into her finished attic. We initially tried to come out on 10/2/10 to perform a temporary fix and the member was going to be out of town. We returned on 10/5/10 when the member was back in town and performed the temporary fix. The member was originally told that we were working on a backlog of work from the February Blizzard of 2010 and that we were still seeing current customers from that storm and trying to get caught up on pending jobs. Unfortunately as with a lot of homes that are over 100 years old finding the full cause of leaks is not cut and dry as there are usually layers and years of work, updates and aging that have caused damaged to the structure. Our initial temporary fix did not stop all of the leaks and a return visit was required and another temporary fix was completed. The member was notified that due to the existing roof condition our recommendation would be to replace the damaged areas and that we would come back to give an estimate for doing this work. An estimate was completed and sent in January of 2011. With the temporary holding we recommended waiting for warmer weather as to not cause further damage to the roof by working on it in cold weather that tends to make roofing material brittle and susceptible to cracking and damage. Just like we promptly reacted to the member's roof leak we had other customers with the same situation that needed attention and with her temporary repair holding we had to prioritize the immediate response to be in line with our current job load. As is our custom we hold off on sending our bill until we feel that the job has been addressed to the fullest and with this case we were still planning on returning and giving a full estimate to fully fix her issues. We apologize that we did not send a bill in satisfactory time and had one been requested via a phone conversation for current work, one would have been supplied. Our company has been in business since 1952 and we stand behind all of our work and have a high level of customer satisfaction. The storms of 2010 pushed us into an abnormal and intense workload that we have not seen in the 50 plus years we have been in business. We have endeavored to insure that customers were seen in a timely fashion without a compromise in quality."

Their work was very good and of high quality. I had also found their service to be very good. My only complaint was that the workers had cut some limbs off of one of my trees without my permission. I was unhappy about that.

I was favorably impressed by the fellow who came to look at the house and diagnose the problem. He gave the impression of being technically competent and able to explain the iisues. They showed up about a week and a half after I sent the signed contract and deposit check. The work took two men two days. The foreman did a good job of explaining the problems and was able to deal with unforeseen contingencies. Until the gutters were down and the rotted boards removed the extent and nature of the damage was not known. The house was built in 1949 and it turned out that the dimensions of component boards has apparently changed since then, so it was necessary to fetch a table saw from the main office and trim the replacement fascia boards to fit. There was a fair amount of returning to the office for additional materials or equipment, but reasonable explanations of what they were doing were always provided. The new gutters were tested by several inches of rain, and performed well. I would hire this firm again (perhaps for roofing) and recommend it to anyone else.
