Well, it has been about one year since our remodel. There are still a couple of things that Brian promised to fix, but never did. If you have time to read my whole review, here you go

Pro:

- Brian does get back to you whenever you contact him

- cost is relatively good for the area

- he allows you to use your own materials.

Con:

- He finds contractors on the craiglist when he has a job for them. Therefore, your work quality could never been known ahead of the time. He fired two contractors during our 3 month remodeling project. The first one broke our chandelier and didn't even know how to level wood. The second one broke our lamp and couldn't even paint. That summarized the level of quality of the work. We were fortunate enough to have some friends who were in the construction field, and identified level supporting, and piping issues before they closed up with boards.

- He doesn't pay his contractors on time. They complained to us, and didn't care about completing remodeling on time.

The bottom line is we do not have time to deal with fixing issues all the time. I would like to work with some contractors who know how to work on a project correctly at the first place.

$335
I had decided not to write a review for this company because it was too complicated but due to frequent requests I will do so.  I will say up front I can't remember the exact $$ amounts that I spent but will be able to estimate pretty closely.  Bought a deal $335 for $600 of contract work.  When I told BBurns what I was looking for he told me he does big jobs not little ones. My job was not really worth his time.  He said Angie's list did not post the deal properly but he would honor the commitment.  I wanted him to put up crown molding, chair railing and baseboards - I would pay for the materials and the $335 would go towards labor.  I did want the room painted.  Originally I was going to wait for another Angie's list deal but he and I agreed to work out a deal, which was never put on paper (my mistake).  I thought it would be a total of $1300 including the deal and I would pay for supplies. In my mind that meant $700 additional plus supplies.   His guy showed up on time, very professional.  I wondered how one guy could do the molding but he did a great job.  He was neat and clean..  The problem was he worked slower than a molasses in January.  He kept on telling me, I don't work fast - I insist it be done right.  It took 4 days. Even BBurns showed up to see why it was taking him so long.  I was getting a little tired of it but I thought we had agreed on a price so I just kept on smiling saying "nice job"  The room was painted white before hand so it was not covering a difficult color. I had to ask him to paint inside the closet which I was surprised that I would have to say that.  There was a little wall paper on the walls but my son helped him remove it.  But in the end, the room does look good.  BBurns sent me a bill for $2600 or $2700 - I almost fell on the floor - I had my entire living room and basement painted for just about the same price. And equally as professional a job.  When I called him - he admitted the price was "on the high end".  But it took four days because he had to do so many coats. - the so many coats thing was nonsense - it was a white wall.   When I said I didn't think I should have to pay because his guy was so slow. His response was fine I'm not going to argue with you, pay what you think is fair. I'll get you on the next job.  Ultimately we did go back to the $1300 plus supplies and I ended up still paying about $2000 - $2200 for a 10 x 10 room.  Which I still think is enormously expensive - I had a friend of my son's come over who has his own company and said the job was done well the price was too high and took way too long to complete.  BBurns on day one seemed terrific - the job was done well but he was a little flippant at the end which left a bad taste in my mouth.  And still I paid more than if I had just called someone else. He will not get me on the next job.
Response from B Burns Construction
"We did do a room renovation and make over, and I did inform [removed member's name] that it was not a quick 1 or 2 day job, and that my men are expensive as I hire the best that money can find. I informed [removed member's name] that the wall paper removal and that the remaining glue residue on the walls will have to be skim coated with several layers of gypsum skim. Multiple layers of hand trowel plaster skim coat, not paint. Each layer taking 6 hours to dry and sand. So the flow of work installation was not optimal or standard. The door also had one of the 6 panels broken and we removed the door and custom fabricated and installed a replacement panel as this door style was not available for a simple purchase and replace. We wanted the doors to all match in design. The crown molding was a dental style which require additional time to match the corners properly. The crown, baseboard, chair rail molding, and window casing were all painted in accent colors, different from the wall; which requires additional taping and painting with a small brush. One man 4 days (or 2 men 2 days) is not unreasonable for these office repairs and renovation. In the end I told [removed member's name] that it took longer than expected (one day) and I offered to accept whatever she thought was reasonable. Which I did."

Brian, was very responsive. I got a visit and estimate for the project the day I called and he was ready to start working on it the next day. The shelves look good. I feel I was offered a good price for the project although there was some confusion about lump sum payment vs. payment by day. If I have another project coming up in our house involving wood work I would definitely get back in touch with Brian.
Thanks for the good work.

We were very happy with the company and the employees he used to do the work. No only do the closets look great now but the company were good about fixing the previous poor framing of the openings from the original builders.  Brian was very good about returning calls and checking in on the status of the work.
A big plus for us since my wife is pregnant was that they were very careful to be as clean as possible and keep the dust isolated, especially considering the fact they were  working in our bedrooms, and dealing with old plaster.
We will gladly use this company again in the future.

It is very beautiful. It was a difficult job because I had soffits in the way. He has incredible attention to detail. It is looks really good. He has great craftsmanship. I was willing to pay more for quality and I got it. They were very responsive. He always gave me updates on the work and any problems that arose. He took the time to run everything by me to make sure I got what I was looking for. I would highly recommend him. If you are looking for 1920’s restoration work, he is the guy to go to.

The two workmen arrived with Mr. Burns the morning of both days, the work to be done was reviewed, and work commenced.  the workers cleaned up after themselves and left the workspace - and an outdoor area they used - immaculate.  Mr. Burns was cordial, professional, and creative in the ideas he presented to resolve a small but vexing issue. There were no problems, no down side, to this project.

We find them to be very good contractors. I think we paid about $200 or $300 on that work. He came over with his people and took the doors and molding off and built the ramp. When I was out of the wheelchair he came back and put all the molding back and painted all the doors and molding and it not show that we had them taken off. We are very pleased with him and they came right away. We would use them again in the future.

The service was excellent, the work professionally done and it was completed quicker than expected of estimated. Mr. Burns' carpenter Nick Wong was a master craftsman who took great pride in meticulous work. The results exceeded our expectations.
