I had an excellent experience buying a grand piano from Rick Jones pianos. I researched a number of used piano stores in the DC metro area and they had by far the best reputation. I made an appointment and ended up staying for 3 hours playing nearly all of the grand pianos because no one had an appointment after me. The staff were friendly and available to answer questions but never put any pressure on me to make a purchase. I came back a week later with my wife and again spent 2-3 hours making sure we had found the right piano for us. In between visits, I called another piano store in the area that had a similar piano for sale just to compare price (Rick Jones posts all his prices on his website; I had to call the other store for this information), and Rick's price was more than 10% lower. Once we finalized our decision, I called and placed the order over the phone (the store had kindly placed the piano on hold for us for 24 hours to make sure no one else bought it while we were deciding). The piano was delivered (included in price) and set up in our living room within 10 days of the purchase. The delivery crew was professional and did a flawless job. Highly recommend Rick Jones pianos! Their 10-year warranty and lifetime upgrade policies both gave me a lot of confidence that our significant investment in a grand piano would be protected.

This place sells the shells of Steinways and other renowned brands, rebuilt with inferior parts and labor. It may look like a Steinway, but don't be fooled. And when you go to sell it, Rick will not back his claims of quality with a good offer. Go somewhere else and buy a Yamaha or Kawaii if you can't afford a Steinway rebuilt by Steinway.

Description of Work: I was in the market for a solid, recent but "pre-owned" baby grand piano. Rick Jones Pianos is 5 minutes from my house, so I checked their web site on Dec. 28th and found two (among the dozens upon dozens upon dozens) baby grands that appeared worth checking out because of brand and pricing. Exchanged a couple of emails with Paul at Rick Jones Pianos, who replied quickly in each case. That afternoon I went to the Rick Jones showroom with the two stock numbers in hand. Rick Jones was there and showed me both pianos, taking the time to play each for me so I could listen to the overall sound. I sat down at each instrument and knocked out a few hesitant notes (it had been many years since I'd been competent at a keyboard and that showed!). My choice was 2001 Yamaha that looked and sounded as if it had just come out of the factory. We arranged the delivery day, finished some paperwork and I left. The Yamaha was delivered on January 2nd by the moving company Rick Jones has been using for years. The three gentlemen who did the physical delivery were terrific and it was obvious they'd been working as a team for quite a while. The piano was in fine tune at the showroom (Rick's in-house people also know their "stuff" very well). As part of the purchase, I was given a certificate for a free in-home tuning during the first six months of ownership. I have not yet availed myself of this (any piano needs to "settle in" to its new surroundings), but will do so sometime in late Spring. My overall experience with Rick Jones Pianos and Rick Jones himself was truly excellent. Their after sale service will, without question, be comparable.

 + -1 moreVery professional, great sales staff, easy going. No pressure. I really like the lifetime buy back service. We got an excellent starter piano. They listened to our needs and tuned the piano to meet our requirements and the space it is in. (This is very important with a Korean used piano. They can sound tinny if not tuned properly)

THE FORMERLY USED PIANO WAS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, HAD A BEAUTIFUL SOUND, AND WAS A FRACTION OF THE PRICE OF A NEW STEINWAY. THE DELIVERY WAS AS PROMISED, AND WAS DONE IN A VERY PROFESSIONAL MANOR. THE STORE WAS VERY FLEXIBLE IN THE SELECTION OF THE PIANO BENCH. FREE 6 MONTH TUNING WAS INCLUDED.
