The service person showed up within 6 hours of the email from Angie's List!
On both machines he went straight to the problem clearly explaining and demonstrating why his diagnosis is valid. He mitigated the problem on the Infoprint and told us what to get for an affordable permanent repair. He even effected a temporary repair to the Canon. It was impressive.
A bit of background is in order. The Infoprint is a high volume, high speed, duplexing laser printer. It's not a consumer item. The Canon is a free standing medium duty office scanner/copier/printer like you might walk up to for self-service at an office support facility or a library. Neither are particularly new.
We tried a national service outfit with costly but not particularly effective results. A number of other printer service firms simply refused to work on the Infoprint citing it's complexity.
The unassuming Digital One Systems guy simply waltzed in and diagnosed both machines in under an hour. He concretely demonstrated why his diagnosis was valid in each case. it was awfully impressive!
[CAUTION, the following is my personal opinion based on a half century in the scientific and engineering community but it is based on only this event.:
Some folks just plain understand systems. There's no explaining why or how. It's just like the sense one gets from seeing a world class athlete's moves or listening to a top flight musician -- even it the musician can't read music.
Well, the same thing goes for scientists and engineers. Some are simply naturals. I suspect the service person from Digital One Systems was just such a natural.]
