Work was to be completed in ONE time. Obviously, there was a problem with estimating time on the contractor's part, as the workers worked diligently while on the job. They didn't finish, and had to return several times due to not completing what should have been done in two times. For instance, they left about 6 inches of quarter round molding loose on the floor instead of installing it, as per contract. When the light was not installed correctly (dangled from the ceiling with crossed wires which could have caused a fire), they also failed to patch the ceiling in a workmanlike manner (someone else was hired to do this and it was done easily), not even putting something on the floor to protect the floor! The workers were obviously under time pressure from the boss and said so. Ikea says it takes NO responsibility for this problem, although this is an Ikea "certified" contractor, and although Ikea advertises that it has contractors for kitchens. This was a small project.
Description of Work: Installed 4 kitchen cabinets, microhood, trim, fillers, ceiling light, telephone plate, plumbing. Lights, counter, toe kicks, new ceiling vent, etc . This is a certified IKEA contractor (one of 3 in the area), and so I TRUSTED that they would be good. Carpentry skills were good. But the electric wiring for a microhood and for an IKEA chandelier was done in a way that a master electrician said was DANGEROUS, as well as letting the chandelier dangle 3/4 inch from the ceiling (not flush). The plumbing leaked and I had to call both a plumber and an electrician at my own cost, after complaining. The electrician said there could have been a fire or I could have been electrocuted. Birch Associates have been cavalier about the dangers and have refused to reimburse me. I don't blame the workers for the problems, although they are obviously working sometimes beyond their training. Work was to be done in one (1) day but took 5 MONTHS to complete, after complaints & $500 extra repairs.
