FLOOR FINISHERS plus

First, and quot;Floor Finishersand quot; is a contractor that subcontracts to other companies . Because I had done business in the past with them (2006), I went ahead again with them this year. Unfortunately, it is under new ownership. The individual who now is and quot;runningand quot; the company is not as professional as I would have liked. I never did get an official contract in writing, only an email quote. Even then, after I replied to set up service, the individual lost the email and therefore did not know how many square feet or the price quoted for my project. In my opinion, Mr. Floor Finisher did not earn his percentage of the contract, because he basically called the subcontractor and left it at that. During the time of the project, Mr. Floor Finisher did not return a phone call and text I sent; according to the subcontractor, he was not available because he was out-of-town camping for the weekend. I never did receive and other communication from him, and most definitely, no final paperwork. Virtually all of my phone calls and dealings were with the subcontractor, who I can say was quite professional... HOWEVER, there was an incident which prevented me from giving an and quot;Aand quot; rating to this project.
I knew the subcontractor from before, and he was very pleasant, responsive, and had done a very good job on the floors. I paid the balance of the work to the subcontractor on the day the second coat of poly was drying, so I couldn't go inspect the work until a day or two later. MISTAKE. I found upstairs in the two smaller bedrooms the coaxial, cable cords cut with a sharp instrument at the wall, so now I had two holes in the wall and two long pieces of cable. The cable in the master bedroom had been tacked along the baseboard. It had been ripped away for the job and and placed out the window. This now wasn't a question of just repainting the baseboard; it had to have a good sanding and a couple of coats of paint for the length of the wall. I called the person who had done the work... and it appears he did not know that one of the men had cut the cables. He did state that accidents can happen, and it was due to the machine running over the cable. I wanted him to see that this was done with a sharp instrument, and was not an accident done, twice. They wanted to come back and fix the cable issue, but I was felt I needed to be present when that would happen. When I said this, the subcontractor said he would check his schedule to see when they could come back out in the early evening. He also stated on that phone call he would pay for the repairs. It's been a couple of weeks. No phone call. The communications companies tell me they will not come out unless I have services with them (it's a rental home, so I'm not about to sign up for a year worth of services to get this fixed). This means I have to contact an electrician to do the work, but without anything in writing from the subcontractor stating he take care of the bill.... well, you know where this is going. No where fast. I hope this review will serve as a lesson to you too.

The company that showed up did a very good job of doing the floors. It was sub contracted out from the owner. The men who did the work were very professional. They were very tidy. They even replaced a section of floors that had warped .

Do not use this company! After looking on Angie's List, narrowing it down to three companies. Then we interviewed Marty he told us that we would not have to move our daughter's custom made bunk bed, they would treat it the same way they would a piano. We had read some older reviews that were not good but newer reviews that were good. We liked Marty and he was very friendly so we decided to use him. He told us his guys would sand, seal and coat the floors. The night before they were to start the job we got a call that they were going to be there but they might be a little late. After waiting 45 minutes past when they said they were going to be there we called the company. When we got ahold of them they told us they would not be coming that day. The next day they were going to be there between 9-9:30. At 10:15 they showed up. They told my husband we had to take down the bunkbed. Since I was not there my husband had to do this by himself. In the process the bed broke. They told us they would don't be done by Friday as previously stated but now it would be Saturday. Around lunch time I found one of the guys going through my kitchen cabinets (we were not getting this room refinished) I asked him if I could help him with something. He told me he was looking for salt for his lunch. He then removed his lunch from our microwave (that he used without permission). Once they had the bedroom floor sanded they showed us our different stains on the floor. We were told if we use a dark stain it would rub off in high traffic areas and in a couples years we would have to have him come out and re do the floor. After this information we decided to go with a natural sealer. They left around 2:30. When they were leaving they told us they would be there the next day by 9. They took our samples that we paid for and put them in their van. They had taken trash from their van and threw it in the street. I found cigerate butts on my front porch. They left empty Gateraide contains threwout our house along with other trash. Dirt and dust on our porch carpet. At 9:30 I left the house. They called at 10:30 and told me they were having car problems but were on their in 45 minutes. When I came home at 12:30 they were not there. I then called Marty told him what was going on. He told me he would look into it and call me back. When he called me back he said they were on their way, the guy was very upset and he won't know what was going on until later that night. At 1:45 one worker showed up. After an hour of working and a hour on the phone two more guys showed up. They were blocking our driveway. Everyone was working and he told me that he was going to stay until he got it all sanded and sealed (they were still on the first layer of sanding). I again asked if tey were going to fill in the holes i had previously showed they and he reassured me they would. They were cursing and using provocative language in front of my and my children. When we returned home at 8:30pm they were getting ready to leave. We had to wait for them to leave to get in our drive way due to them completely blocking it. The next morning the floors were dry and I took a look around. I was speechless and horrified! I was so upset by the work that I saw. Under our hot water baseboard heaters were never sanded, the floor felt rough, you could see sand paper marks everywhere,there were divets where the sander was held too long, streak marks, the living room was three different colors, parts of the floor were not even coated, dust and trim was stripped of paint and sanded down. They stained the trim and left drip marks on the trim. They stained oner dust and wood chips. We called Marty and told him of the horrible work. He said to just point out the and quot;problemsand quot; and the guys would fix it. We has suggested for Marty to come and look at the work. He told us he was busy and had things to do. When they finally showed up my husband had asked them to gather their tools and leave. They told him all they needed to do was buff the floors and the floors would be fine. My husband told them no thanks just get your stuff and leave. Then the worker got very nasty! Started making racial comments about my husband and myself. Yelling, cursing, bowing down to my husband and threatening him. We had another company come in and redo our floors. What was going to be a one week project turned into a three week project. The floors are finally done, now I have to sand down all the trim to remove stain, dirt and wood chips. Then repaint them. Please do not use!

Tyrie and Eric started the following Thursday. When I arrived home at 5:30 PM they were still
hard at work. The work they did to repair the floor was nothing short of amazing! They placed new boards at irregular
intervals and the gap between the floors literally disappeared. The sanding removed all of the discoloring
from the wood and once the stain was put down, the floor looked amazing. They
did not finish the first day until nearly 7:00 PM, Back on Friday, and again on
Saturday morning for the final coat.(The smell of the finish drying was a bit overpowering,
but Tyrie assured us that it would dissipate). He set the thermostat to 72
degrees in the house, because it was the optimal drying temperature for the
finish. He instructed us to leave the floors for 24 hours. I could not be happier with the outcome.
Bottom line:
Tyrie and Eric were professional, hardworking, neat
and friendly. They showed up when they said they would and everything was done
exactly as promised. I’ve already recommended them to coworkers. They did an amazing job and kept the cost very reasonable

In the fall we contacted Floor Finishers for a quote to resurface our hardwood floors. Marty scheduled a time to come out and inspect the job. He provided us with a very reasonable quote.
As it turned out, we weren't ready to do the work until recently. When we contacted them again, Marty immediately pulled up the previous quote. We were quite happy that he honored the price from several months ago. In addition, we were pleased that the job could be completed the next week.
We went into the process expecting it would take 2 days to finish. Marty's team arrived right on time. They lent assistance in moving a few pieces of furniture my husband and I couldn't move. They worked very quickly to expertly refinish our floors. We had an area that was damaged. Marty's team recommended we stain the floor a darker color to help mask the damage. The additional cost was nominal. The floors were finished by mid-day. Of course, it took 24 hours for them to dry. We decided not to sleep in our house the first night. When I came home the next day, I was pleasantly shocked by how amazing our floors looked.
To sum up my experience, Floor Finishers provided a professional floor resurfacing, at a lower than expected price and in a very timely manner.

Floor Finishers was the most reasonably priced hardwood refinishing
company that we spoke to. They stripped the carpeting, removed the floor
staples and refinished our hardwoods. There were only 2 dings against
them. First, when pulling out the staples, part of one of the boards
ripped up. We were assured that when the refinishing crew came in- they
would be able to fix it. They did not fix it, and instead finished the
board the way it was- with a big piece missing. We have our desk over it
so you can't see it- but it would have been nice had it been fixed. The
only other ding is that they didn't clean all of the wood dust after
sanding- and we still had dust on our walls months later. Other than
that- we're pretty pleased with how it turned out considering we paid $1500 less than the other guys were going to charge us.

Marty was professional and extremely helpful. I had water damage from a refrigerator icemaker and it ruined some of the hardwood in dining room, kitchen and living room. Tyree and his crew came out and did a great job sanding and refinishing the new wood and the old wood so that you can not tell the difference. The quote was reasonable and the job was well done. They are a pleasant group to work with. I will recommend them to everyone and use them again.

The owner Marty was very nice. It was the least expensive quote we received. The floors look beautiful, but the problem we had with Floor Finishers was that they did not take care of out belongings. When we returned from vacation, there were footprints on the couch, broken items, they did not properly seal-off rooms so EVERYTHING we owned was covered in filth, and they went into a room we agreed they would not enter. After calling Marty, he called the gentleman who worked on the floors, who then left a nasty message on our phone. Marty took a few hundred off of the bill, but that did not cover the time (2 vacation days each) and effort it took to clean up the mess.

They were able to start on short notice and finish quickly (two days), which is the reason we chose them. One of the best prices around, too. The shoe molding looks kinda shoddy, and the floors were not buffed well around the edges (lots of scratches in the varnish). Not a good choice if you're a perfectionist, but good deal for the money if you're on a budget.

They did a great job and on time and the floors look great, in spite of damp conditions outside due to the weather which made it take longer to dry than expected. They also worked with us in moving some items out of one of the larger rooms. We will definitely use them again for this service when needed.

The servicemen were very prompt on the first day. We had already cleared all furniture and items out of the living room. They explained again the process they were going to use before they started to confirm our agreement. They taped up a covering to minimize the dust from the sanding in other areas. They worked straight through until the day one process was completed. They advised us to stay off the floor for a minimum of six hours. We agreed to a 7:00 a.m. start the second day, but there was a miscommunication between the servicemen and they arrived about 7:25 a.m. One of the three thought the agreement was for a 7:30 a.m. start. They were apologetic. pleasant and professional. They completed the last couple of steps quickly and provided us with some very helpful and valuable information about how to maintain the floor going forward. Their fee was well below the estimates we obtained from other competitors.

I was very satisfied with the work that they did. They were among the cheapest of the quotes that I got but I thought they did a really nice job. There was a little miscommunication about the total amount of refinishing that they would be doing; there was one room that wasn't included in the estimate. They went ahead and did it and we negotiated a bit more money but it ended up being okay. They were still cheaper than the other companies.

Great guys. They squeezed me in to their schedule (I needed a rush job), showed up on time and finished when they said they would. They moved a lot of furniture for me. The only problem was I was unable to have an inhouse appraisial as it was so rushed so there was a miscommunication about staining my dinning room floor. However, they redid it without charging me. I plan on using them again.

They were great. I spent about $3,000 on the job. They were very clear about what needed to be done. They were very honest about it. I was able to get my own supplies. So, they did not charge me extra for that. They were also very punctual; they always showed up on time. I will use them again in the future.

I thought they were fantastic. The owner came to my home and informed me clearly about the process, provided pricing and let me think about it. I knew I wanted to do the job and hired them. The first time they scheduled me right away, the second time I had to wait a little longer. They provided a very professional and efficient service both times. The owner didn't do the work himself but his crew was very good. I did have them come back one time to touch up a base board in one spot but they were quick to respond.

They were very reasonable. The floors were very difficult to do. Both the fellow who owns it and the fellow who came to do the work had been in business for a long time. They saw the beauty in the floor and they saw that I wanted to preserve the originality of my older home. I got 3 estimates and one fellow suggested that I just replace the floor. They worked with me and my expectations. They told me that the work was not going to look perfect because it is 90 years old. The floor was well over an inch and it is a beautiful floor. I think people try to get their floors to look like mine. They had to do some reinforcing and they had to replace some planks. All is all it is absolutely gorgeous. There were a few small spots where it bubbled because it was over 100 degrees when they did them and they repaired those. Marty told me to let him know if I had any problems with the movers and he would come back out and he did. They are what I call old fashioned business people. The fellow brought his three sons when he came to finish the floors. You could tell that they really knew what they were doing and they really cared. It wasn't like I was a customer. My job was an easier one because I wasn't living there and I took all the doors off the hinges. Marty was really reasonably priced and they cleaned up afterwards. They were really good. They were the old fashioned kind and I had dust in my house but I didn't pay near what it would have cost for the dustless. They cleaned up the dust as best as they could. I could call me at 8:30 at night and he would answer. He wanted to make sure that the color was what I wanted. Communication was not a problem with these folks. A month after they came and left me a note that they wanted to do the bubbles caused by the heat. They only did my first floor because I was on a tight budget and I will call them for my second floor. James has been doing floors for 39 years.

1) The floors upstairs with their final coat are very durable. 2) Several people had looked at the kitchen floor project. Some refused to consider stripping and refinishing, saying removal of the linoleum and a new layer of plywood and then laminate or tile was the only way to go. Others said resurfacing could only be done with great difficulty and produced bids from $1900 to $3500. Marty Levin of Floor Finishers said that the project could be done without difficulty for $800, but that there was, of course, no guarantee about the condition of the wood under the linoleum. His crew, Tyrie and Lendell, started at 7 am, had the floor stripped to bare, unbelievably beautiful wood by 9:30 am. It was sealed and had two coats of finish by the end of the day, and a third coat the next morning. I have recommended him to several neighbors. I have more floor to do upstairs next year and I shall certainly call Mr. Levin to do it.

It went very well. The owner of the company came to my house to give me an estimate. He was very nice and professional. The work was scheduled and completed very quickly (I don't remember the exact number of days). The men that came to my house were also very professional and took great care when moving furniture etc. Over the course of a couple of days the work was completed and the owner called me for a follow up.

They were a good price compared to others but the quality of the work they did was poor. There are clearly places on the floor where only one coat of poly was applied vs. 2 in other spots. They did not sand one of the floors very well and we have rough floors now. Also, they did not clean up the dust well enough in some spots, but then applied the coating over that area so we have wood dust permanently coated into some areas. Finally, they sanded the stairs by hand and it seems like they did not use the right grain of sand paper to finish it off, as there are clear sandpaper marks all over the stairs.

THEY DID A GOOD JOB. THE PERSON THAT CAME OUT WAS VERY ACCOMMODATING AND POLITE, BUT HE DID NOT MAKE CLEAR THAT HIS ESTIMATE DID NOT INCLUDE WATER MARKS OR WRONG COLOR TILE REPLACEMENT.
