We had a large tree that was creaking and groaning and about to fall. I called David and he was quickly responsive. The crew was on site in the next few days and took down a tree that was very tricky to maneuver. The process took longer than expected but as usual Arbor-X lived up to the wonderful reputation is has in Baltimore and Harford Counties.

This is the second time I've used Arbor-X, and I'm again very pleased with the work they did and price I paid. David very promptly came out and did an estimate for the work I wanted done, and also identified the problem afflicting my beech trees. While he was looking around my property, he also pointed out a scale problem on my holly bushes that I hadn't even noticed and told me what to do for it.
Despite being very busy, they were able to squeeze me in within two weeks as mine was a smaller job. The guys that came out to do the work were very efficient, knowledgeable and conscientious about their work. Despite the dead red oak being rotted and uncooperative about breaking cleanly, they were still able to get it down with minimal collateral damage in the woods. The other issues were dealt with without a hitch. Couldn't be happier.
Use Arbor-X without hesitation!

Removed numerous trees from the backyard. Very efficient and quick.

The estimate was lower than any other estimate I had received. For some reason the builder ran all the utilities under the tree so the first time they came out, they did not remove the tree. After we had discussed possible solutions, they came out the following month for the actual tree removal. Because my neighbor had his tree trimmed at the same time, they were able to offer me a little more of a discount on the original estimate. This company was good and I appreciated their honesty and advice. I would definitely use them again.

They were very good. They told me upfront that this was a busy season and it would be a week's time before they can get to me and that turned out to be true. They came early morning. They got the tree out without damaging anything and very neatly. They finished when they're supposed to finish. They cleaned up after themselves in my backyard, front yard, driveway and my neighbor's yard. In fact, my neighbor was so impressed with them.

Of the 5 Angie's List vendors I asked to quote, Arbor X was one of only two who replied. His price was significantly lower than the other company. He scheduled me w/out deposit...checked in via email as the date approached and showed up at the appointed hour with all the right equipment and a crew who obviously knew what they were doing...no orders given, no waving of arms and slowly over 3-4 hours the big tree was gone and the stump ground up...smaller branches were mulched in the tow behind chipper and the large trunk sections were lashed to a straight flat-bed truck. It was a primer on tree removal.
I'm having David come back in the spring to relocate a smaller tree...really top flight work.

Appointment for estimate went great. Arrived on time, was very thorough and detail oriented, wrote down all my concerns and answered all questions. I later made an appt for them to come out and do the work per the estimate. They arrived on time, and performed all the work requested. They did a great job, cleaned up everything very well and did minimal disturbance to the grass and rest of the yard. I would hire them again in a second and highly recommend them

This was an emergency call and he came. He was responsive, very professional, and knew what he was doing. He's not cheap, but if you're willing to pay his price you'll get the work down in no time.

Our experience with David has been fantastic. He came out early on a Saturday morning to evaluate our much neglected yard attached to the house we just purchased. He spent about 3 hours with us going over every bush and tree and we have a lot of trees and bushes!! The yard had been neglected for many years so there is a lot of maintenance that needs to be done. While we were going thru the yard he took the time to explain every detail about every tree/bush and what needed or could be done or if nothing needed to be done at all. After the walk thru he wrote out a very detailed price sheet with all the jobs broken down individually with an individual cost. This was extremely helpful as it allowed us to do the important jobs now and save some of the other less important jobs till later and helped us budget. Our immediate issues were to remove a 40 foot pine tree that was smack dab in the middle of our yard obliterating any view of our home and our front door as well as removing two trees that were right up against the house and semi-blocking the driveway. He was able to come back that same week and remove those for us as well as doing some other tree trimming and such. He will be coming back to take down a 100 foot Norway Spruce that is lifting the shingles on our roof as well as removing several dead white pines that line our driveway. He is very considerate and professional. He told me they would not be removing the stumps at this time as the ground is to soft and the vehicle used would ruin our lawn so he will come back once the ground firms up to grind out the various stumps. We look forward to working with David over the next couple of months to transform our yard from an overgrown mess to something beautiful!! I highly recommend this company!

..He is very busy because he is very good and is present personally on every job, along with the 4 or 5 crew men who work side by side with him. He mans the high crane himself. Because he is so good and is personally on every job, he takes a while to get to the job after the estimate, BUT he is well worth the wait. Very professional, very knowledgeable(he is a certified arborist on top of a Bachelor's degree) and has an excellent crew. Dave personally checks everything done by his crew.
We are very pleased with him, would get him again and have recommended him to friends and family.
We used him twice in the past, once for emergency work before a hurricane and he personally came to our home as IRENE was beginning, to take a large branch down that was over our garage.

I've just joined Angie's List, and the first thing I wanted to do was review this outfit because they were simply outstanding.
After Snowmageddon, I incurred a lot of damage and called three different tree services for estimates. My greatest concern was a beautiful Japanese Maple that lost one of its main branches.
Arbor-X came by and gave the most professional estimate complete with all available options and no pressure. David also explained in detail what all he would do to save the maple, which was leaps and bounds above what the others had said at no greater cost. The cost of the removal of the downed trees was also less than the others. Needless to say, I went with them.
They promptly came and removed my fallen evergreens, and David did an amazing job saving the maple. I even posted a photo of his work on an arborists website where I had initially sought help, and he received many compliments from his fellow professionals on the way he did it. The tree came back beautifully and has been fine ever since.
Use them without hesitation.

I paid for a diagnosis of my poor dying dogwood tree and when the expert got here he found that there were some other roots strangling the tree and just took care of it for us. How nice is that?!
These days with the economy so bad, everyone is trying to nickel and dime you to death, I can't tell you how refreshing and appreciated it was for someone just to handle it because it was the right thing to do.
They were a little hard to reach at first, but don't let that put you off. Once I did get in touch, they were extremely responsive.
They even provided the work first, didn't mind if I was home or not and just sent me the diagnosis and bill to me in the mail after, which totally worked for me (you can be there if you want to). This company is great, they deserve your business.

"THANK YOU for your kind words. This nice customer even sent us a hand written thank you letter. When you described the dogwood was dying, particularly on one side; I told ISA Certified Arborist Matt, to make sure he takes root pruning tools and dig down if he suspects any stem girdling roots when he looks at the tree. He found a significant one that was surely the culprit; as I saw the picture on his cell phone. The tree will likely make a come back this season (although, most of our native dogwoods struggle with all the foliage diseases now a days). I don't know if Angies List works this way, but if you are able to respond to this again, I'd love to hear how it has changed this growing season. We fix a lot of root problems and often see excellent results, quickly. This customer's request was for a diagnosis/evaluation. This is not an estimate. We charge $85 for this type of visit (if Harf Co). If work resulted in the future from this visit, we then subtract the $85 they paid, from the work invoice. We definitely do not nickel and dime anyone, we never have. Nor do we say a tree is dangerous or going to die when it is not. It's sad, I see "tree guys" scaring homeowners all the time, saying the tree is likely to fall on their house and such. I also hate seeing the big companies pushing liquid treatments like fertilizer and insecticide. Often these things are not needed, but it's big money for them with high profit compared to other tree work. We are licensed in pesticide and herbicide, we have a spray rig and can do soil injection fertilizing. Do we do it much? No! On that subject..... homeowners, please stop having pesticide companies spray every tree and plant in your landscape, "preventative spraying" does not work. It kills the beneficials too and can even lead to a pest outbreak, your landscape will basically need spraying all the time. It's a vicious circle. We only suggest treatment of an insect or fungi problem when it's a true problem. I few "bad" insects is not usually a big deal, usually the predator insects will take them out after a while. The big companies claim they do IPM (integrated pest management), this is were they are only supposed to treat problems they find. Well, I've seen how they do their IPM, they find a few aphids or any small amount of a harmful insect and they spray the tree. Thereby, costing you money and also killing your lady bug larvae or lacewings larvae that were hatching and about to take out the aphids anyway. Okay, I'm done my rant for now."

Went great - what really impressed us besides the quality of the work and the relatively low price was their responsiveness to do the work soon since we were involved with another project (house siding) that required removal of a tree that would have hindered the work. The company was very understanding of our situation and responded quickly and adequately; we are most appreciative.

It went very well. Initially the owner, David, was very tough to contact. But once we met, I was very happy. His estimate was proably 2/3 of the estimate of the first company I had contacted. He was very professional which made chosing his company easy.

"A "C" grade is very low and hurtful to our grading on Angie's List. A message to future potential customers; we are a small company, but use highly skilled educated employees, which produce high quality work and great care is given to your trees and property. IF you are an individual that does not have the patience to wait for a return phone call, you might not want to call us, as we often do not have someone in the office during the day to answer the phone. See my other responses on reports where I explain this further. Please do not give us a "C" or lower grade unless you feel that we were intentionally negligent."

Everything from first contact to end of project went smoothly. David Driver and his crew were professional, courteous, detail-oriented, and neat. We received a lot of estimates from other companies and Arbor-X gave us the best price. David is a certified arborist and obviously has a love for trees. He walked through the property to inspect all trees and then advised us on which trees were unhealthy and unsafe. We highly recommend Arbor-X without reservation.

"Thank you customer, that was a large job. Just last week (this year 2012)we performed a large amount of work for your neighbor, thank you for the referral. People can view our tree removal skills by going on youtube and typing in the search words, ARBOR-X. Some of the faster moving videos are: Arbor-X The X-men, Rope Rigging I, Rope rigging II and Knuckleboom demo days. We are so much more than a tree removal company though. We do plenty of correct trimming, cabling and bracing systems, root work...... well, anything to do with trees."

My second time using Arbor X with the same result and gt;and gt; a fair estimate, professional service, minimal collateral damage, good attitude. I gave a B for response only becasue it took a few months after the estimate to get the trees down, but I was in no hurry so no worries. A neighbor stopped me a few weeks after asking for their number because he watched them do an exceptional job, that doesn't happen too often.

Dave explained all work to be done in detail when he came to provide estimate which I found very helpful. The workers were prompt, very courteous, friendly and professional. Dave's estimated cost was what he said it would be, so no surprises there. I only had to tell him that I found his name on Angie's List to get the discounted price. I( I didn't need to pring coupon). The yard was cleaned up nicely; except for my beautiful tree swing, you wouldn't have known they were there. David even took a picture of me and my grandson swinging which he later sent me in email. (Thanks again Dave!)
All in all, I am very pleased and will use them again for the additional work that was recommended.

The trees look great and he gave me lots of diffenet options and priced everthing out in writing when he came for his estimate. The work was done quick and very nicely, I was not even home for it, and they even replaced my fence seemlessly. The replanting is even under warrenty. I love ARBOR X and will use them again if I need too!

"Thank you for your report and kind words. I've been wanting to respond to Angies list reports to explain something for a long time, but never have the time. You hit the nail on the head. Our "weakness" is we generally do not have anyone to ANSWER the phone during the DAY when you call, it is an answering machine. But, if tree emergency, you can call or text my cell phone directly and I check my phone often during the day, when ever I come down out of a tree. I answer my cell in the middle of the night too and many times have gone out in the dark in blowing rain to put a tarp over a roof that has had a tree fall onto it. Let me get back to what I was saying about no office manager to answer the phone. We ARE a small company that performs high quality work and puts highly skilled people to work on your trees. My wife writes down calls after her day job of being an O.T. and returns calls, sometimes it takes several days if there are many calls on the machine. IF we had a full time secretary, that is another person with about a $40,000 salary to add to the cost of doing business. I just counted up the number of customers in 2011 serviced, it is about 260 customers. $40,000/ 260= $154. Would you (speaking to everyone) rather your bill be $154 more, just so that someone answered the phone the first time you called, rather than you having to leave a message? If the consensus is yes, then we will make moves to get a full time office manager. In short, here is what you get with Arbor-X: You often do not get a live person when you call the office during the work day, you get the honest truth about your trees and no scare tactics, the person doing the estimating will be an educated ISA Certified Arborist in most cases, the arborists climbing and doing the tree work will ALSO be ISA Certified Arborists and the person you met for the estimate will be there as well. We are as careful with your landscape and property as we are with our saftey, you won't see us working without hard hats, chainsaw chaps on groundmen, eye protection and ear protection. The way I see it is that the actual QUALITY of work is the most important thing to produce. Having highly educated and highly skilled people on the jobsite, is important. A note on employees, since the economy change in 2008, we have not needed to bring in foreign workers, we have the best USA citizen workers that we have ever had. (2006 to 2009 we had some H2B legal foreign workers on 10 month visas). We have never slowed down, no matter what the economy has done. Just about every summer, we have to change our answering machine announcement to say "we are not taking any new customers at this time. Only past customers or direct referrals from past customers", we have to do this to deal with the large call volume, if we did not it would be weeks before you got a return call. Even with this, it is hard to keep up with the number of calls. If a tree service is not busy and can perform your tree work the next day or in a few days (when not a time sensitive situation); then there is often a reason for this. It's because they do not have work. Why don't they have work? Often because they perform low quality work, damage your property, do not completed jobs, etc. Open your current phone books, you will find we do not advertise, we do not need to, we have a good reputation that we have established since the start of ARBOR-X in 1995."

Their arrival was delayed a couple of days by heavy rain and wind. They called first and came when they said they would. They did a good job. They took good care of our property. I'm glad we had ArborX do the job and would certainly hire them again.

The crew arrived and let us know that they were there to trim and repair the trees that were marked as priorities on the estimate. They worked quickly and cleaned up all branches and trimmed material. We were pleased and will complete the rest of the estimate in the near future.

President, David Driver, performed a property walk-thru and completed a detailed estimate. I had a 10% discount coupon from Angie's and was able to deduct that amount AFTER receiving the estimate, unlike another tree service I contacted for an estimate. I had received two other estimates and Arbor X fell right in the middle, but I made the decision to go with them based on Mr. Driver's professionalism and lack of "hard-sell" tactics, his professional credentials (certified arborist) and the fact that it is a locally-owned company. Furthermore, despite the unexpected death of Mr. Driver's father, the work was performed in a timely manner by his staff (although they did show up one and one-half hours later than pre-arranged), the clean-up was excellent(!), and Mr. Driver performed a follow-up inspection the following week.
Response from Arbor-X Inc
"I do not like to see anything less than an "A" on Angies list. My Dad was in the hospital for three days on life support after a massive heart attack, then died, we were all drained but tried to carry on with business. But I admit, even normally our responsiveness can often be a "B" because we ARE a small company, often with no one to answer the phone during the day. Since we have a good reputation, we receive many calls. I do not understand why we got a B on price, because I think I read that our price was right in the middle. That's an "A" in my book. Especially when it comes to trimming, because we put much more effort and educated decisions in our trimming AND the climber is always an ISA Certified Arborist, not Harry the tree hacker. Sometimes on tree removals, we may be the lowest price, if so, it's because I saw a more efficient way to remove the tree than the other company. It is not because we are cheaper. Quality is not cheap."

Mr. Driver set up a time to look at our trimming needs and thoroughly explained the process of correct trimming. We appreciated the time he took and understood how the trees would look after trimming. We have a community maple tree that some neighbors were going to split the cost. We all agree that he did a tremendous job. The cost was very reasonable as well. I look forward to contacting Arbox-X Inc for all future tree trimming needs.
